I was born in Jenkins (Letcher County) Kentucky. I first listened to the games on a beige Philco radio. I still have it and it works cathoid tubes and all. I grew up with Caywood Ledford in my ear and Ky Blue in my heart and I have never lost that passion. I have children that I have "bent to my side" of sports. We are a split family. Tennessee in football (sorry ...with Kentucky second) and Tennessee Women in basketball. We do not root against Tennessee men in basketball but never actively for them. We all have a great, spirited season when basketball is going on. Thanks goodness we now have cellphones and no pay long distance because we call tons of times during games. Wearing blue on game day is a must regardless of how professional that day might be. The rule of garb is that it must have Kentuycky logos on the shirt so I stand out teaching a college class in Tennessee. I have a private practice so clients are already clued in by the office decor and they seldom comment during a session that my "craziness" is showing on my shirt. Living out of state has been a problem for years that I had to be creative about. I have driven to nearby cities that have sports bars. I have delayed flights to be in an airport terminal. I juggle schedules. I have scheduled conferences just to be in a city for a game. My family will meet in cities to see games. I once paid an enormous long distance telephone bill back in the day to listen to the last ten minutes of a game by telephone that my son put in front of his radio. The internet has made my life more simple and more complete as a fan.
I like the dialogue on the Sea of Blue and the knowledge of the posters (and blog site managers of course). I read at least once daily. My attitude? I always think we are going to win and most of the time I think we still have time for a comeback. I find great satisfaction in being a Big Blue fan even after all these years.
