Regression Question

I'm doing a little experimenting with regressions and such, and I have a question. I got to BABIP and it's presenting some problems for me. How would you recommend regressing BABIP?

I know regressing to the league average would be inaccurate since it fluctuates so much between players. Would career average be the best option? Another thought I had was to regress to LD%+11, which could be better for players with a small sample size or those who had historically been very lucky/unlucky as far as balls in play. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Evil Dr. Stat?

Warning- this may put a bit of a damper on our collective love of the Rays. I saw it on FJM. Apparently they've been running a 3 part cartoon series where Joe Maddon and a few select players are "the defenders", a group of superheroes that protect baseball and all its dignity. Anyway these three episodes go into the battle of the defenders against their nemesis, the evil...

Dr. Stat.

Here's the cartoons

May 3rd, M's at Yankees

I know there's been a few diaries/fanposts on here about some of us living in NY, so I thought I'd throw this out there. Next Saturday I'll be taking a bus trip down from central NY to see the Mariners play the Yankees. Is there anybody down in NYC interested in going and perhaps meeting up?

I realize I should have brought this up sooner, but hey it's worth a shot. If there's anyone interested in that bus trip I can get you the website too, 90 bucks for transportation, ticket, snacks and all that.

Guillen debacle

Looking back on the Guillen deal, it was clear that nobody liked not offering arbitration. It really made zero sense. One of the consensus theories was that the front office didn't want to deal with Guillen and his attitude, should he be stuck behind Adam Jones this year.

That being said, if they really wanted Erik Bedard, it was obvious any package would start with Adam Jones. If the team had been that intent on getting Bedard (judging by the reported package were sending, they were), wouldn't they want to prepare for his absence beforehand, rather then waiting and picking up Brad Wilkerson off the scrap heap? Even if Guillen turned it down, there's the draft pick.

With all the recent Bedard developments, this Guillen nontender is looking worse and worse.
