Loyal niner fan since 1969. I came to NY from Jamaica in the West Indies and had never seen american football. For some reason, the late game in NY had what seemed to be a lot of niner games. Tommy Hart; Ted Kwalick; Gene Washington, Vic Washington, John Brody etc. Gene Washington was my guy. Had his football card also. Standup guy. Student Body President in college or High School. That was inspiring to me. Motivating! How can his number not be retired by the team. Thats a big black eye on the organization to me. He epitomized the student athlete and was also an exceptional athlete. Stanford. Just the type of role-model to be celebrated and yet his #18, is not yet retired by this organization! Utterly unconscionable.
Anyhoo. Niner should sign Alex Brown immediately. Singletary needs to dust of his Chicago connections and go get this guy quickly. He is a solid veteran player still playing at a Pro-Bowl level. He would certainly add stoutness to our line, something we sorely lack.
Niners should also draft Taylor Mays if available without any maneauvering except to drop down and still secure Taylor. This guy is the second coming of Ronnie Lott. And I will gladly take a one-trick pony safety if that attribute is hitting. Niners secondary hasn't put lick on opposing recievers in year(minus the good licks Goldson had last season)
Mays would have more than a few recievers looking over their shoulder and certainly he has recovery speed if the reports are accurate.
Finally, go Alex Smith. I was a doubter. Preferring Hill's winning percentage. But you showed me a lot last year. Particularly that you were a tough player. And you grew tremendously as a leader and quaterback. Just keep getting better. You can be that good!
