The Union will file a grievance if Larry Johnson isn't returned to his prior status after the suspension is over.

The trade of Gaines Adams won't do anything to quiet down the trade rumors floating around the NFL, usually on talk radio stations.
One of the more far-fetched ones included the Ravens talking to Kansas City about Dwayne Bowe. We're not sure exactly where the rumors came from -- we saw it here first -- but the rumor included Baltimore sending a second- and fifth-round pick for Bowe.
Old PFT buddy Aaron Wilson confirms there is "nothing concrete" to the rumors.

Awful Teams Update: Kansas City: Rookie head coach Todd Haley keeps making ultra-conservative tactical decisions. A team that's won six of its past 36 games shouldn't play like it is sitting on a big lead. That was last year in Arizona, Todd.
Matt Cassel: Oh man oh man. 0-3. Oof. I never thought we’d go 0-3.
Larry Johnson: No kidding. This isn’t gonna be a fun week, man. (takes two steps, falls down)
Browns coach Eric Mangini gets a lot of attention for fining a player $1,701 for taking a bottle of water from a hotel minibar, but I'm worried about Chiefs coach Todd Haley. He essentially conceded Sunday's game to the Eagles at halftime, a response to his team's sterling first half, which included 3 rushing yards.
Three rushing yards! Get up and take three big steps -- that's how far the Chiefs got in the first half. So maybe Haley's concession -- he denied it was one, but didn't deny he was making a point -- was just a matter of semantics.
But this follows last week's episode, which featured Haley screaming for more than three hours during Sunday's game. He screamed at his quarterback, his linebackers, his receivers, his assistant coaches. He screamed at the refs, and he screamed at the guy unlucky enough to be on the other end of the headset. Whoever that was, he's got a nasty case of tinnitus that might be around until December.
One caveat: All that screaming came in a loss to the Raiders. Maybe you'd scream, too.
Sweet 'N' Sour Play No. 3: Philadelphia leading Kansas City 14-7, the Chiefs lined up in a Cover 2 with the safeties almost 15 yards deep -- yet DeSean Jackson of the Eagles ran a slant and legged it out 64 yards for a touchdown. That was sweet. The whole point of the Cover 2 is to prevent long gainers; that was sour. You've seen runners self-tackle by falling down when they try to juke a defender; Kansas City free safety Jarrad Page self-blocked by falling down as he tried to follow Jackson's jukes. The media attention for this game focused on Michael Vick's brief, inconclusive appearance. Far more important to Philadelphia's fortunes is that third-year quarterback Kevin Kolb played well, becoming the first NFL quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in each of his first two starts. If the Eagles keep throwing so well, Vick's fleeting appearances may not matter. As for the Chiefs, megabucks quarterback Matt Cassel averaged a miserable 4.4 yards per pass attempt -- ye gods!

TODD HALEY'S A MADMEN, HE SAYS. From Ross of Austin, Texas: "As a Chiefs fan I have to ask you about Todd Haley. He seems like a complete tyrant on the sidelines and doesn't have a problem screaming at players on a regular basis. Now, I'm not saying the Chiefs players deserved to be coddled when they make mistakes, but should an NFL head coach really act like that? Shouldn't your head coach be calm and poised during a game? I can't think of a successful head coach that makes such a scene on the sidelines, shouldn't those outbursts be saved for practice and team meetings? Thanks and keep up the good work.''
Well, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcells and Dan Reeves did it regularly. I'm sure I'm leaving a few coaches out. I think what Haley's trying to do is establish to his team that mediocrity won't be tolerated, and I have to admit I haven't watched the Chiefs as closely the first two weeks of the season. I will in the coming weeks, and will see if he's going batty as much as you say.

9:32:08: Chiefs. Were they worse than the Lions last year? Are they this year? That'd be a yes.
9:33:21: In his prime, Zach Thomas is one of the few players I would have paid my own money to watch on a football field. (The Panthers' Steve Smith is another.) The guy's a warrior, so I can understand him not ever wanting to quit the game. But when you get cut by the Chiefs, it's time to hang 'em up and call it a career.

Our social makeup right now is, you tell the young kids, 'Don't worry about who wins and loses.' Well, when you get out on this level, that team on the other side is not there to lose. They want to beat you. I think it's how they grow up sometimes.

Cassel, meanwhile, told a friend he'd suffered a grade-two sprain of the medial collateral ligament Saturday night against Seattle. It's a two-week injury, so it's unknown if he'll face the Ravens at Baltimore in the season opener. Then again, it's probably best if he doesn't face the Ravens. Give that one to Brodie Croyle or Tyler Thigpen, then have Cassel ready to beat the Raiders in a winnable game in Week 2.
