Rocky Top Talk Who's headed down to Baton Rouge?

Taking a group down for the game, leaving early Friday morning. Actually rather excited about the Vols chances this weekend, and hope the trip to Death Valley is worth the 9+ hour drive. Wondering what the RTT community's road trip participation is like.

Anyone know where we can greet the team as they enter the stadium?

Any ideas on good places to visit before kickoff?

Still lots of hotel vacancies, suggestions?

Also have 2 extra tickets still available, 19 rows from the field section 404, right next to the band. Can let them go at face value ($70) to any vol fans interested...

Rocky Top Talk Scroggins to USC, What Now?

Per KNS: HERE

Quarterback Jesse Scroggins (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) has committed to Southern California, according to a source close to his recruitment.

Distance from home was said to be the primary factor according to the source.

It will be interesting to see how this effects the recruitment of Bernettii all though i personally believe he does not fit Kiffin's system. I would expect an official announcement of Lamaison. What do you guys think? Who will be Kiffin and Co. primary target now? Should we settle for a JUCO QB or bank on bringing in a 2011 true freshman who will start?

Perhaps the bigger question is how does this effect our recruitment of other big name WRs?

Rocky Top Talk Marlon...

I have watched Marlon Brown play football for three years now, and being an avid follower of D-II A football in Tennessee (sad, isn't it?) I feel that he is the best recruit from the state in nearly a decade. If we land Brown i can honestly say that CLK has proven himself as a relentless recruiter.

I watched him from the sidelines of the State Championship game this year, as an assistant coach for Davidson Academy, and told him after the game that people across the state would love to see him in Orange. he told me "I know, and i like 'dem. I need to get somethin from the new people tho." I have heard ever since then that CLK and staff have made him a top priority and my experience tonight sealed my approval for our new staff.

In memphis tonight, not just CLK and Orgeron, but Thompson too was at Brown's basketball game sitting about 10 rows behind me. Some guys from Harding said that CLK had been to 3 other basketball games before. I was excited about our recruiting energy.

I know perosnal stories are almost always BS rumors but sometimes I think first hand impressions should be shared.

First time back posting in a while, great to watch this blog grow as it has (good work Aerobab, Hooper, and Joel)

Rocky Top Talk Really? When is the NCAA just going to let the kids play?

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3544920

I hate to see guys get hurt, but i feel like the NCAA just continues to try a critique there rules only to change their minds a year later. Can we just leave the game alone? It seemed to be working fine before.

Specifically i want to know you guys thoughts on this new 40 second clock. I smell some post-game press conference remarks come sometime in october when people figure out this opens up the door for ugly and anticlimactic 9 minute drives. Teams like west virginia and Ohio State should pick up on the ball control possibilities real fast and understand that this seriously diminishes the opportunity for big time upsets in college football. I can just here ron zook with one of those "if it wasn't for...we would have won" remarks

Who knows maybe Michigan headed up the whole ordeal so they wont have to throw the ball but just a few times against Toledo...no chance for that whole appalachian state thing again

Rocky Top Talk If Kippy's out, Who's Next?

Sad to see that evryone is pulling their name out of the hat for our good 'ole OC position. All this talk about Frank Cignetti has me wary though, he hasn't been very succesful anywhere besides Fresno State. Positives are that he is young and interested, but are programs like UNC and Fresno great stepping stones to UT?

Who else do you guys think is in the mix or should be?

I'm excited to hear rumors of Phil talking to "someone from Michigan's Staff". Fred Jackson and Erik Campbell are fantastic assitant coaches and skill position mentors. Not to mention the fact that they can recruit with the best in the country especially Jackson. He has produced 10 different Running Backs who have surpassed the 1000 yard mark in a season in just 15 years!

Rocky Top Talk Ainge's pinky is broken

Just want some thoughts from you guys on the latest news that Ainge's pinky is broken but he will attempt to start saturday. Hounded by injuries again and knowing there is a chance that we will be missing starters at TE, RB, QB, an K makes me feel very uneasy. How much do you think this will effect Ainge's performance saturday? I personally think crompton will end up playing most of the game, any thoughts?
