PLS PUT CAPTIONS IN *BOLD*

(This is an old pic, originally part of this press release. And I actually had a caption contest for it among my friends on my blog, but I figure the CGB community can do better).

An ESPN artilce suggests Brett might not be done after all.

With his family "tugging" on him to play, Brett Favre has an "itch" to come out of retirement and report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers later this month, according to sources close to the team and player.

I guess he felt like he hadn't jerked Aaron Rodgers around enough. Favre was a great player, a great competitor, and on the field he's as likeable as any guy in the league, but he's been one huge dick of a mentor.

Atta girl Natalie - way to not let Phelps grab all the headlines.

Link

I don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty excited to see homegirl throw down and re-break it in Beijing.

Story:

Omaha, Neb. - Cal legend Natalie Coughlin set a world record of 59.03 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter backstroke at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials on Monday morning. The world record actually fell twice in prelims when Hayley McGregory first broke Coughlin's previous world record with a time of 59.15 in heat No. 15. Two minutes later, Coughlin reclaimed the crown. The record before Monday's prelims was set by Coughlin at 59.21 at the Missouri Grand Prix on Feb. 17.

Great weekend for Cal sports

No, it's not football. But it's still pretty great.

Women's tennis stunned No. 1 Northwestern to advance to the NCAA semi's for the second straight year. The ladies won 4-2 (with Cal's Claire Ilcinkas up 5-1, 15-Love in the third set of her match when Susie Babos clitched the win on court 1), avenging a 4-0 loss to the Wildcats earlier in the year.

Cal faces Bayor in the semifinal round tomorrow. Note that Baylor lost this year to Stanford and Northwestern, two teams Cal beat. Applying the always reliable transitive property of sports, we conclude that Cal > {NWU, Stanford} > Baylor.

Taking it a step further: on the other side of the bracket are Florida (lost to Duke this year, whom the Bears beat to advance to the quarters) and UCLA (whom the Bears beat in the regular season). Sure, the transitive theory is crap, but the point is this: Cal already defeated the biggest obstacle in its path to a championship.

Softball takes down Fresno St. to advance to the NCAA Super Regional. Cal battled back after losing to FSU earlier in the day, sealing the win with a 9th inning single from Julie Meyer. The Bears next take on top-seeded Florida - in Florida.

Women's crew wins another Pac-10 championship , its fourth in five years. The Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Novice 8 all won their races. The Bears next host the NCAA championships, where they will likely be the favorites. The men came up short of a Pac-10 championship but did finish 2nd to Washington, beating Big Row winner Stanford. They go to on to the IRA championship in June.

Some other good stuff happened too - I'm sure y'all check calbears.com. I'm really excited for Women's Tennis - they have a legit shot to win it all. If they pull it together and win the doubles point tomorrow they should be in good shape.
