NFL Sunday Ticket work around
So, I called DirecTV and told them that I wanted to drop my premium package (the 115 a month pack) down to the 65 a month pack to offset my purchase of the 199 Sunday Ticket..
The dude said that rather than do that, he would give me Sunday ticket for what turned out to be about 40 bucks if I kept my premium pack..
So, if you have DirecTV, call them, tell them you want to downgrade your package, and when they say why, say you are doing it to offeset the cost of Sunday Ticket, and they will cut the ticket cost..
I just did it.

Drayton Florance
The Buffalo Bills have released cornerback Drayton Florence, a source with knowledge of the situation said Friday.
Florence started at right cornerback for the Bills the past three seasons, including every game in the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. He had a combined six interceptions and two touchdowns the past two seasons.
The Bills drafted South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore with their first-round draft pick (No. 10 overall) last week, creating a crowded defensive backfield. Florence had two more years left on his contract with the Bills and was slated to make $4 million this season and $5 million in 2013.

Ronnell Lewis (via thegoodmagneto)
A very good athlete who plays fast and accelerates quickly upfield. Plays with fluid quickness and sharp footwork. Struggles to shed once engaged and plays with very predictable hand use. Doesn't flash many secondary pass rush moves and has unrefined mechanics as a pass rusher -- can't simply rely on his natural ability at the next level. Run defense: Keeps his eyes up and quickly locates the ball with good patience and overall awareness. Needs to develop better pre-snap recognition skills and anticipation. Plays hard on every snap, doing a nice job not giving up on the play and making tackles downfield in pursuit. Limited against the run at the line of scrimmage with a suspect base and overall .

A guy I would trade up a little bit for...if needed.
Mark Barron - Safety - Alabama
6'2 - 218 lbs
• Veteran leader of the Crimson Tide's secondary with 38 career starts at safety
• Unanimous First-Team All-America (AFCA, AP, FWAA, Sporting News, Walter Camp, ESPN.com, SI.com, Pro
Football Weekly & Rivals.com) • Finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award
• Semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award
• First-team All-SEC (AP & Coaches)
• Lott Trophy watch list
• Jim Thorpe Defensive Back of the Week (Penn St.)
• Has 12 career interceptions that ranks eighth in Alabama history as well as 235 tackles and 34 passes defended
• Seven-time Alabama Defensive Player of the Week
The Cowboys really need a safety.. but if they pass on him he could slide all the way to us...
I would be open to the idea of moving up to get him at 13 or 12.. seems like a steep climb but I think he may be the best player in the draft at their position after Luck and Richardson...
Thoughts?
A real, and reasonable draft scenario...
I have seen a lot of mocks.. and this is what I would like to see, and I think it is pretty reasonable.
1) Dre Kirkpatrick - CB - Alabama
2) Amini Silatolu - OL - Midwestern State
3) Mitchell Schwartz - OT - California
4) Ronnie Hillman - RB - SDSU
5) Markelle Martin - S - Oklahoma State
7) Chris Anzevino - C - Kent State
7) Danny Coale - WR - VaTech
I would be pretty happy with this draft. I assume that we will wait too long on guys like TY Hilton, Trumaine Johnson. and Pete Konz... And I am just not buying the RB in the 2nd round talk.. Other wise, i would have Lamar Miller in there.

Ok, I'll do one. Mock Draft.
Here we go!
1) Mike Adams - OT Ohio State
2) Trumaine Johnson - DB Montana
3) Casey Hayward - CB Vanderbilt
4) Brandon Brooks - G Miami (Ohio)
5) Ronnie Hillman - RB SDSU
7) TY Hilton - WR Florida International
Note on Hilton - He is rated about a 4-5 rounder... But, I am hoping he blows the combine and falls a little LOL!
Thoughts?
I totally am in man love with Trumaine Johnson.. and I think he can play any spot in the secondary...
Totally out of control
The players on this team have the same attitude as the dude that gets 5 years in jail for pistol whipping a dude who smudged his sneaker.
They need to get over themselves and not react to everything as a personal attack. In the play where Pettigrew got the UR Penalty, it was OBVIOUS to me that the DB was trying to goad him into a reaction... and it worked. Same thing with the other UR calls...
The whole NFL has the book on Detroit.... push their buttons and they will cave and react.
I think the coaching staff should set down any player that gets a UR penalty for something after the play, for the next game. Seems harsh, but this shit is getting ridiculous.
Why No Calvin!
Why the hell do the Lions seem to not go to Calvin until its an emergency?
Why not give him some chances deep early? I can't stand that. I would throw deep to someone nearly every set of downs.. and most of the time to Calvin.
We force it to him when we need it, and it works.. why not give it a chance early?
Anyone?

Spread Offense
Thats basically what we run.. and I love it.
Tampa had no answer for the draw, since they were scared shitless about the pass.
Oh, and if Burleson doesn't get 75 catches this year, I'll be a monkeys uncle....
Get me some Kool-Aid...

14 team, keeper, PPR team..
So, keeping Hillis and Greene.. this is what I ended up with. QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,FLEX,TE,K,DEF format, 4 pts passing TD, 6 other TDs, 1 PPR....
Our keeper rules say that guys drafter in the first 3 rounds cannont be kept, players can only be kept for 2 season after drafting.. I drafted Green his rookie year, and kept him last year, and this year... Hillis was a FA last year, and in our set up FA keepers are automatically 4th round picks...
So, here is what I ended up with...
QB- Manning, Eli NYG QB
RB- Greene, Shonn NYJ RB
RB- Hillis, Peyton CLE RB
RB- Rice, Ray BAL RB
WR- Welker, Wes NEP WR
WR- Lloyd, Brandon DEN WR
TE- Pettigrew, Brandon DET TE
K- Henery, Alex PHI PK
DEF Giants, New York NYG Def
Kolb, Kevin ARI QB
Murray, DeMarco DAL RB
Smith, Steve CAR WR
Amendola, Danny STL WR
Brown, Antonio PIT WR
Moore, Denarius OAK WR
I will end up going matchup on Manning vs Kolb... but I feel pretty strong with the RBs and WR (Considering that its PPR)
Preemptive Strike on Ryan Torain
The buzz on sports radio here in DC is that the Skins may cut Ryan Torain.
I just wanted to say, don't start getting all excited. He isn't better than Mo or Harrison.. and Brown is too explosive.
Shanahan's offense makes average RBs look better than they are (Mike Anderson/Olandis Gary) and I have seen Torain a lot on TV and in person.. he is average at best.
Just wanted to get out ahead of this...

Perfect Mayhew Canidate

Lets do it Mayhew.. bring him in.
Another solid addition to the rotation in the secondary. He is by no means a superstar but is solid and could find a spot on the Lions... He probably has a new found respect for us following this weekend too!

Rashied Davis on ESPN... Good point.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/29964/rashied-davis-will-be-lions-glue
You might have missed it. Many people do when it comes to what Rashied Davis does on a football field. But if you weren't still talking about the Detroit Lions' surgical opening possession of the preseason Friday night, you might have seen Davis sprint 40 yards downfield, converge on Cincinnati Bengals kick returner John Griffin and alertly fall on a fumble at the Bengals' 16-yard line. Four plays later, the Lions had a 14-0 lead.
No matter how many blue-chip players a team might have, it can't win without the "glue guys" who fill in the gaps and keep it all together. Davis spent six years in that role for the Chicago Bears, and when the Bears lost sight of that value this summer, he jumped to a Lions team that was thrilled to get him.

A legit fear?
I don't think that we are the only ones in the NFL noticing how well Sammie Lee Hill is developing.
In the preseason game, it was just more of the same for SLH... he was consistantly pushing his man into the back feild and just basically being a disruption.
I think he is nearly as good as Corey Williams, and will be within a year, maybe too.
My fear is that the Lions lose Sammie, and get nothing in return. I know people have been talking about trading Corey Williams, but after seeing how well Hill is coming along, I am just afraid that if the Lions don't make some sort of move before next pre-season that Hill will be gone. I believe that next season will be his final season before he is an UFA... so, I would like the Lions to give him an extension worth his while.... but thats going to be hard to do with Corey on the roster.
SLH is really something, and could be starting on a lot of teams today.

But it is interesting to see the dynamic over the last few months and how teams' odds have fared through the draft and free agency. The table above shows the Vegas odds for each team just prior to the draft (April 20), prior to free agency (July 25) and per yesterday, after almost a week of free agency. In principle, that allows us to look at how successful the draft and free agency is perceived to be by the betting money.
The Draft: Overall, the draft didn't move the odds for many teams. Notable exceptions are the Lions and Cardinals, who saw significant changes in their odds, and both teams did draft well, at least at the top of the draft. The Eagles, Colts, Falcons and Saints all saw a slight improvement of their odds after the draft, while the Cowboys dropped a little.

Well, Honestly, I would rather the Vikes get McNabb than this guy...
10 minutes ago - by Joe Oberle - McNabb's displeasure holding up trade
A deal for Redskins QB Donovan McNabb between Washington and the Vikings is in place, but what is reportedly holding it up is McNabb's displeasure with the Vikings' handling of the deal, according to ESPN. McNabb is unhappy that the Vikings initially pursued Tyler Thigpen and that they've insisted he "dramatically reduce his contract terms." Vikings RapidReports
Ok here is a keeper question
Would you keep Matt Stafford as a 10th round keeper with one year of eligibility left, or Shonne Green as a 4th round keeper also with only one year left.
4 pts per passing TD, but 1 point per 5 completions.
Rest of points standard.
Note, my other keeper in Peyton Hillis for a 5th round keeper with 2 years of eligibility left.

All-2000's Lions
This is my ALL DECADE team for the worst Decade in Lions history... The spots are my opinion of the best player, based on body of work in the 2000's not one season.... 2000-2009
QB- John Kitna
RB- Kevin Jones
RB- James Stewart
WR- Calvin Johnson.... Even with only 2 season in the 00's
WR- Roy Williams
WR- Mike Furrey
TE- Casey Fitzsimmons... The 00's were pretty dry for TE's and at least he was an ok blocker!
DE- James Hall
DE- Robert Porcher
DT- Shaun Rogers
DT- Dan Wilkinson
LB- Ernie Sims
LB- Chris Clairborne
LB- Earl Holmes
CB- Dre Bly
CB- Andre Goodman
S- Kurt Schultz (nine INTs in 2 years as a Lion... Slim pickings at safety too)
K- Hanson
P- Harris
KR/PR- Drummond
Another UDFA Fullback...
Yale... the school of the Skull and Boners (According to Will Ferrell's interpretation of President Bush)
I had never heard of this guy, but his is massive 270! and fast 4.69. Sounds like he has good hadns, and a 4.2 20 yrd shuttle isn't terrible for a 270 lber.... 7.1 3 cone drill tells you he isn't the most agile fella, but I mean, what FB is?
Yale fullback Shane Bannon flew well under the radar as a lead blocker in the Ivy League.
However, the 6-foot-1, 270-pounder made an impression at his pro day with a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash.
"The kid is a stud," Joe Linta, Bannon's agent, told the National Football Post. "I had never heard of the kid before a coach at Yale told me about him. He's a good looking kid, catches every pass, light feet and he's blowing up people on the film. He's got some position flexibility, too. He can play fullback or be an in-line tight end."
Bannon registered a 9-3 broad jump, a 29-inch vertical leap, a 4.2 in the 20-yard shuttle, a 7.1 in the three-cone drill and a 12.1 in the 60-yard shuttle.
Last season, Bannon caught a career-high 13 passes for 122 yards and won the Jim Keppel Award as the Yale Offensive Back of the Year.
He played football, track and hockey in high school.

Broncos 2nd Second round Pick on the Detroit Mock
http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2011/4/18/2117477/2011-nfl-mock-draft-denver-broncos-martez-wilson
With the 46th pick of Pride of Detroit's 2011 NFL Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Illinois linebacker Martez Wilson. CapitolLions is serving as the Broncos' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
In Denver, we are almost speechless to see Martez still on the board. Adding Wilson to Von Miller and Phil Taylor will give the Broncos a young nucleus most teams would do anything to get. Wilson is a tackling machine and is as fast as you could ask for in an ILB. He projects to be very solid in pass coverage from day one and once he settles his minor issue with over pursuing on counters and being fooled by the draw, he will be an excellent run defender as well. We in the front office are more than ecstatic to have what we consider the No. 1 ILB prospect in the middle of the second round.
First 2nd round pick for Denver in the Detroit SB Nation Draft..
Ok Broncos.... I think my gamble to get you guys Von Miller in the 1st round has paid off...
http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2011/4/14/2110719/2011-nfl-mock-draft-denver-broncos-phil-taylor
Here is my write up and justification.
With the 36th pick of Pride of Detroit's 2011 NFL Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Baylor defensive tackle Phil Taylor. CapitolLions is serving as the Broncos' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
The gamble to take Von Miller No. 2 pays off, but barley. With what we considered taking at this spot, the gigantic Phil Taylor from Baylor is the only one left in this very deep DT draft. This is another example of talent to adjust in the system. If there were more 3-4 teams in the top 20 picks, he would be gone, but since he isn't we will take our chances on a first-round talent overlooked due to scheme.
Taylor, at 6-3, 335, is a house and he is at his lightest and in the best shape he of his life. We called several people after his AMAZING pro day. He has fantastic feet for his size and figures to clog holes and take up blockers immediately. He is a dominate run stopper, and although he isn't fast enough to be a factor in pass rushing, he can bull-rush. He uses his hands well and has no problem arm tackling people. The A gap has to be avoided or double teamed if Taylor is in it. We are willing to look past his minor off field issues to get a player that we had listed ahead of a few players that are no longer available. We wish our opponents good luck single-man blocking Elvis Dumervil or Akeem Ayers with this monster lined up on their inside.
Revisit predictions from before the season.
http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2010/7/7/1556885/bold-nfl-predictions-sure-to-go
