Week 1 Results

Budd By Proxy 7, For Scherzer 2

A close match with several categories decided by just a few digits, Budd took of in Power (9 HR) and K’s (42) with Scherzer posting 4 quality wins in pitching.

DbacksSkins 4, dance with girls 3

With ties in HR, RBI and Wins, the speed for Skins (5 SB and 7 R from Chone Figgins) gave Skins the edge on Offense, and quality Performances by Qualls and Weaver kept the ERA low enough to pull out a win.  A bullpen the Mets would envy (With K-Rod, Jenks and Seattle’s Morrow) posted 6 total saves.

Snyders Nutty Budeez 6, Grace’sFlask IsEmpty 3

The Budeez had an impressive pitching week with 6 wins (Halladay and Guthrie posting 2 each) along with a solid performance at the plate gave The Budeez a win.  Hamilton and Doumit as well as a impressive contribution from all the offense shown some light for those with an empty drink.

UofA Astronauts 3, Funny team name 5

The Astronauts were flying high on R’s, RBI (57, including ten by Detroit’s Cabera) and K’s, but ties in HR (14 each) and W’s (2) created the perfect storm for a failure to launch.  Funny team name blazed by with SB’s, a solid .310 team AVG, and a combined pitching staff line of 2 SV, 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.

The Wind Farm 6, Pelham Plumbers 3

One of the tightest matches of the week, Wind Farm was lights out in pitching to take 4 of 5 categories, including 2 saves by Fernando Rodney and 20 K’s by Johan Santana.  Pelham had an impressive week from Hanley Ramirez (4 R’s, 2 HR, 9 RBI) and Aaron Hill (2 R’s, 2 HR, 8 RBI) to lead to wins in those categories.

NiceCrispyBacon 4, Arizona Monsoons 5

5 saves a piece leading to a unbelievable tie, The Monsoons stormed through on the back of Yankees RP, 1B, LF, CF, RF and Bat Boy Nick Swisher (7 Runs, 2 HR and 9 RBI) and a strong wing and 11K’s from Ryan Dempster.  Rough opening week starts by Perez put The Baconator in the hole, but San Diego MVP Gonzalez and perennial All-Star McCann kept them alive in the triple crown categories.

Merly Mammals 2, The Nashville Nasty 5

Ties in Runs (37) SB (4) and W (3), The Nasty took the triple crown on the back of (sigh) Troy ‘Boy’ Tulowitzki and New York’s Delgado.  Mammals 42 K’s topped out the match and some impressive Save efforts (3 total) were hurt by Grant Balfours 20.25 ERA.

Byrnes When I Peavy 2, Team Awesome 6

The Greatest team name EVA ran wild (3 SB from Elsbury and Winn each) but couldn’t overcome the offensive output (40 R, 13 HR and 43 RBI) of Albert Pujols, Garrett Atkins and Nelson Cruz.  Heath Bell’s 3 Saves and 0 ERA helped anchor a win.

Minor League Fantasy Baseball: The Rattlers Ring

The first invites for the minor league have been sent out.  Just like in the big boy's game, the league invitees are expected to claim their team here, with a cut off for Monday, March 2nd.  If your interested in joining this league and didn't get on mine or Jim's initial list, leave your e-mail address and we'll send out another round of invites next Monday or Tuesday, and than just open it up for the public after that.

An official number hasn't been decided, but this years top winners (minus Budd By Proxy, Commissioner) will be moving up to the SnakePit League in 2010 ... So, come claim your spot, or your claim to a claim to a spot, and let's double up the fun (at half the price and a quarter the attendance in Reno :) ).

24 Hours of Trades

Woke up this morning to the news that the Dodgers have acquired Casey Blake, (opens in a new window), and this coming down from last night's news that the Yankees went and got Xavier Nady and a Bullpen Arm for four prospects (Also opens in a new window).

I find both of these pieces of news unsettling, as the Yankees have given up a lot, granted, they filled their needs nicely, and the Blake trade provides a solid bat, something the Dodgers haven't had too much of.

Do you feel like the Blake trade is going to force our hand in the trade market?  And if it does. does that Nady trade make our price go higher to add a quality bat at a impact position?

The D-Backs ranking second on another national poll, this one from Yahoo, behind only ... wait for it, jaded West Coasters ... The Sox.

"The sudden thumpin’ by the offense is impressive, but how about that staff ERA? I’ll spare you from looking it up: It’s 2.98."

100 RBI Season?

Obviously, we are out to a fast start, but, does anyone think a 100 RBI for one (or more) of our players is possible this year?  It's been awhile since we've completed one, in 2003, and we came close in 2005, but other than that we have been in the 80's every other year.

Do you think it can it be done this year?  And who do you think can get it done?

I'm ready to talk Baseball again ...

Hello everyone (it's npineda, I wanted a new name)... I've taken a few long months off baseball, checking in less than I have in recent off seasons, and not commenting much.  I was a tad heartbroken following our sweep out of the post season, and was haunted by images of Byrnes sliding into first over and over and over again, but, after some long intensive drinking sessions to burn those memories out of my head, as well as some really good prescription medication from Dr. Spaceman, i'm ready to go again.

My first piece of things I bring back with me, is a tidbit from Yahoo! Sports rumors section, which I hate half the time, but they had a pretty decent piece about the D-backs trying to work a long term contract with Brandon Lyon, and his agents response.

D-Backs discussing contract with Lyon

I love that the best file photo they had was a purple uniform from the season he closed ... I also love the #8 comment about 'How dare you consider Valverde over' ... Oh, how little they know Valverde ...
