Article from 1967 on the Angels-Red Sox Rivalry

A few weeks ago I ran across this piece of Angels-Red Sox history--from 45 years ago this month. As the Angels were getting ready to play the Red Sox last week, I started thinking about the meetings...

Cross Country Trip Part 1 – Visit to Nick Adenhart Field

An Angels fan serving in the military makes a visit to the little league field named after the late Nick Adenhart.

For the Record - Ernasty's Streak

After the last Toronto game, Mr. Freeze said, "I'm going to give up a run soon... I know tomorrow or maybe the next day I'm going to give up a run – because I'm not perfect. I'm a human." It will take more than you giving up a run to convince me that you are a homo sapien, Ernesto. For the time being, I will just believe that the late inning nail-biting drama you've provided from time to time is all just an act to try to make us Angel fans feel a bit more comfortable, since that is the type of performance we expect from our closers. Good on you for understanding the history of your club. Anyway, back to the subject at hand... one of the bright spots that has been partially overlooked due to a Total Eclipse of the Trout this year is Frieri's scoreless innings streak (25.1 innings, if you include the last scoreless inning he threw in San Diego). In case you are curious (as I was) about the record for scoreless innings by a relief pitcher, it is 39. The record is shared by Al Benton (1949) and Brad Ziegler (2008), though Benton had broken time as a starter, in which he gave up runs. The record was nearly tied last year by Craig Kimbrel, but he came up 1.1 innings short. Hersheiser's record is pretty amazing, but his 59 innings includes facing guys a couple of times in a game, where you can see that "so-and-so can't hit the curveball tonight," or whatever. Relievers enter the game in a variety of situations, and may pitch on days where their arm might be sore or they aren't necessarily "in the zone." That's why I think the streak Frieri is on--whether he approaches the record or not--is pretty amazing. Keep it up, Mr. Freeze.

Trumbo Cops an Attitude, Puts Chip on Shoulder

If you get as annoyed as I do listening to the Republic of Texas fans scream and clap and boo through the entire game like a bunch of heifers in heat, then you'll like hearing what Trumbo has to say. I'm glad to hear the team is starting to get pissed off and sick of being embarrassed. We don't need any more "patience." We need them to be angry.

Who Made Your Angels?

Ok, obviously this is a Fan Post that should be posted during the offseason. But a game thread comment tonight reminded me of a game my brother (bobbinhead25) and I used to play. So I'm posting...

Onfire

Did anyone see this car that burst into flames in the parking lot last night before the season opener? I was on my way into the game, and thought, "Wow, tonight we're gonna be on fire." I wonder if the dude didn't find out about it until after the game...

Why Trumbo Can Do Eeeet

In the offseason, everyone’s got an opinion. And since nary an official pitch as been thrown, no one can prove your opinion wrong. So A’s fans can talk about how Manny Ramirez is going to “...

A Fantastic Unrecorded Play Saw this great picture of Mike Trout "scoring" from second base last night on Aybar's bunt. Despite Erick's fantastic acting skills, the umps figured out the ball hit him on the knee. The play was ruled dead, and Trout, who was already in the dugout, had to go back to second. So it never happened. Luckily, we're going to get to see many more of these in the coming years.

Seattle: Thoughts on our History, with 30 Days to go.

The Angels were down 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on a chilly spring evening in Seattle.  Troy Glaus was in scoring position, having doubled to lead off the inning and moved over...

Angels 48-8 when they score at least 4 runs.

If this stat doesn't demonstrate how good the pitching is and how horrrrrrrific the offense is, nothing does.
