Trade idea: Mo for Oden?
Well we all know Mo is on the trading block, and the Trail Blazers are apparently showing "strong interest" (scroll down, it's in the last paragraph). Looking at their roster noone stands out to me except for Oden. They have Camby and Przybilla so they could be open to letting go of him.
What do you guys think? I think it could work. Yes, it's risky, Oden may never completely overcome his injuries. But to be totally honest I think we have to take a risk with our roster. Getting CP3 or Bosh are pipe dreams. We need to be creative to make something happen. Oden is still young, and remember that Z had a similar run of bad injuries and he managed to have a productive career over a long period of time and Oden's ceiling is much higher than Z's.
Another reason to do this, Varejao is the closest thing we have to a Center on our roster because Z and Shaq are coming off contract. The way I see it is Oden could be Varejao's backup this season while we ease him into playing time and if he can put together a injury free season he could be ready for starters minutes the next season. As for losing Mo, he's now had 2 poor post seasons in a row. Oden may not do as much for us in the 82 game season but that's not where we need help, we did go 11-0 without Mo this season, if Oden is still standing in May he'll be a bigger help than Mo.
So what does everyone think of a Mo for Oden trade?
And the Clippers could just become a serious threat for LBJ.
Apparently David Geffen is in talks to buy 51% of the Clippers from Donald Sterling (you know, the guy whose incompetent ownership is the reason the Clippers aren't considered a serious threat for Lebron). Maverick Carter sat next to Geffen at game 2 of the finals, and Lebron was supposed to be in Geffen's seats until he cancelled just before the game for an unknown reason.
Geffen is supposedly guaranteeing to Sterling that he can deliver Lebron...as long as he's calling the shots. This works out for Sterling (if he's capable of looking at it logically) he sells 51% for market value and breaks even on it, and makes a huge profit on the 49%.
The Clippers roster is basically created for a superstar to slot in at the SF position and you have potentially the best starting 5 in the NBA. The equivalent of Dwight going to the Thunder.
I'll be honest, I was about 80% sure Lebron was resigning, all of our rivals for him have their flaws, if the Clippers make this happen they become the number one threat in the Lebron race.
If it becomes an option do we sign McGrady?
If T-Mac stays with the Kings and ends up with a buyout, he hopes to join a playoff contender. A source close to him says he would like to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers or Cleveland Cavaliers.
While there’s no evidence the Lakers have interest, Cavs GM Danny Ferry had done a little research on T-Mac during his exile from the Rockets. Still, the Cavaliers traded for Antawn Jamison on Wednesday and it’s extremely unclear whether they would want to risk disrupting their chemistry to bring on another former All-Star – one who has spent the season recovering from microfracture knee surgery.
Wojnarowski mentioned this quiet detail.
Apparently if he gets bought out we could sign him for the rest of the season. The way i see it is it's a low risk gamble. We get him for the minimum and see where he's at. If it works out he becomes a productive SG for us and makes us better. If it doesn't work out it's no big loss, we got him cheaply and we can just as easily bench him for the rest of the season. It's not a trade so we don't lose anything.
What do you guys think?
Should we trade for Anthony Randolph?
Yahoo Sports is saying the Warriors are looking to trade Randolph because they're not getting along:
Warriors’ Randolph on block again
For two seasons, the Warriors have had an odd time with Anthony Randolph. Sometimes, they’re in love with his sheer athletic ability in that 7-foot frame and considered him untouchable. As a rookie, they dangled him in deals, too. Well, it’s happening again. Several NBA teams say Golden State officials have offered Randolph in trade discussions, but as one Eastern Conference executive said: “I think all of their roster could be had.”
Says one Western official: “The Warriors are willing to do anything and everything.”
Randolph is 20 years old and blessed with terrific talent, but his staying power and maturity have frustrated Golden State officials. It appears they’re willing to cash his potential for more mature assets. After destroying the summer league in Vegas, Randolph has averaged 11.1 points in 21.8 minutes per night for the Warriors.
Even with his patriarch, Keith Smart, substituting for an ill Don Nelson, Randolph’s productivity hasn’t improved. Still, he’s so young, so gifted, it’s a move that would come with a great deal of long-term risk.
The warriors have the worst coach in the nba, they have a terrible front office and the entire organization is a mess so i'm willing to give Randolph the benefit of the doubt on that situation. He is incredibly talented and has tremendous upside potential. The warriors and their issues could turn out to be our gain. I remember another contender trading for a talented 7 foot power forward and becoming the nba championship favorites.
This could be our own version of the L.A-Memphis Gasol trade. Our weakest position is probably at PF, i personally don't think the hickson-varejao combination we have going at the moment is championship caliber. Right now i see us as being one of the top 4 elite teams (with the lakers, celtics and magic), if we made this trade i think it puts us ahead of them. We got Shaq to handle Dwight, and if we got Randolph we'd have enough heigh to match up with the lakers. And another positive that would come from getting a guy with so much potential is it would make Lebron feel better about our long term future and give him another reason to resign in 2010.
So what do you guys think?
