Rubio update vs. Germany
"That said, a three-point game (68-65) late was decided by the Gasols, who combined for Spain’s final nine points. Ricky Rubio added a clutch steal late to end the threat from a Germany team that hung tough the entire game. Spain never could blow this game open, the way they had several others during the preliminary round.
Rubio finished with five rebounds and four steals in 21 turnover free minutes. His ability to wreak havoc in the passing lanes on the defensive end is impressive. And he rebounds well enough for a player his size. He’s just not a serious scoring threat at this stage of his career, not against foes of the ilk he will find in competitions such as this one and most certainly against the superstar point guards he will see in his rookie season in the NBA."

Hoopshype twitter: Beasley broke wrist?
Looks like Beasley may have broke his wrist in a slam dunk performance after a game in China.
EDIT: Bucher now reporting via twitter..
Report on Michael Beasley breaking wrist in China not accurate, source says. Had doc examine hand in LA today merely as precaution.
One more run at Adelman
Saw this on hoopshype but the actual link to Twitter is blocked for me, so I hope this works. If not go to HoopsHype and try to find the quote.
Here is what I could copy/paste:
Joe Schmit: I'm hearing the #Timberwolves will make one more run at Rick Adelman. He has a family situation that is keeping him from wanting job.

Coon: Gasol for Love & #2
"Heard there's something to it. Lakers may have offered Gasol for Love & the #2. No indication that Minny even has Love on the table, although the #2 can be gotten."
LOL, Love AND the #2? Who comes up with this stuff?
Beasley to Cleveland?
SBjake gets ripped hard around here at times, but one of his ideas got me thinking.
Beasley to Cleveland. Now, I don't think we could get the #4 for him, but what about the only other player we've really wanted from their roster? Varejao.
A (weak) glimmer of hope for Irving
I live in Ohio and was listening to some sports radio on the way home last night and there was some serious consideration being given to passing on Irving with the first pick. They clearly acknowledged him as the BPA, but they were getting a little "cute" with their drafting strategy, explanation after the jump
How would a lost season affect the following draft?
Now that our season is over, much of our focus right now is on the draft, but this draft is being influenced by the impending lockout of the NBA players such that many players are staying in school. That got me thinking about what other affects this lockout might have even on future drafts, specifically if there is a "full season" lockout. I found the following blurb posted as to how the NHL handled the "misses" season of 2004/2005
Gerald Wallace for Eddy Curry anyone?
Can Gerald Wallace play shooting guard? I'd certainly be glad to have him if this report is true and might actually make sense with Curry since according to league rules (and please correct me if I'm wrong, just picking this up from what I've heard) state that Curry can't be packaged with another player, so his expiring plus a pick would be exactly what this article claims is required to pick up Wallace.
This leaves a lineup of...
Ridnour/Telfair/Flynn
Wallace/Webster/
Beasley/Wes/Wallace
Love/AR/Tolliver
Darko/Pek/AR
With Rubio distributing, we have a TALL lineup with Wallace providing the slashing, Beasley the jump shooting, Love (rebounding), and then Darko/AR depending on size of the competition's center.
We'd also be near the cap (and over once Beas/Love get extensions) and really need to believe that is a championship level team...which is probably isn't, but I'd really like to acquire some proven basketball talent.
On the flip side, with a lockout, we may not have to pay wallace much next year and then he'd be an expiring...so not a terrible risk, we just have to be good enough to do 2 things...
1.) Not give the clippers a lotto pick (that lineup would do that in the newly depleted NW division)
2.) Convince Love & Beasley to stay
Thoughts?
Wallace/Iggy/Beas trade idea
Slightly intoxicated by the euphoria of a win last night has brought me to the point of having fun with a little trade proposal. Unfortunately the Trade Machine is blocked from my work, so I'm not sure this will all work, but here is the basic idea...
Al Jefferson dominates inside as Utah nips Phoenix to stay perfect in preseason
I'm happy for Al to be finding some success in Utah. I definitely think this is one of those situations that will really turn out beneficial for both sides.
Interesting that they call him a Center. I realize he plays that position a lot, but he's always been listed as a forward on the rosters that I've seen.
Going at it backwards
At this point, we've been told that we've been getting calls from teams looking to move up to get #4 and at this point, most everyone sees the most likely scenario being the Cousins is there at 4, so here is what we need to do instead.
1.) Take Philly's hard stance that we don't trade the pick except for a ransom, even greater than Philly's. This will cause any team that really wants Cousins to deal with the Nets.
2.) Help facilitate said team to trade into the #3 spot, so they take Cousins
3.) That leaves Turner or Favors there for us at #4
Admittedly, #2 kind of gives away our hand on #1, but isn't there something to this. It seems that whatever team is trying to move into the top 4 is already going to be paying a high price, so can we use that to offset the cost of us getting Turner or Favors?
I don't know exactly how to make it work, but I'm wondering if this might be a moment to be a little more passive, let someone else pay the big bucks to get into the top 4, and then what we really want will just be handed to us.
The first step (if you endorse this plan) would be to suddenly change our tune on Cousins after his workouts, and act like we absolutely in love with this guy. Then we can change our asking price and really start to sell everyone else they need to move to the 2-3 slot to pick him before us.
Buy low - Hello Beasley?
At least one Florida paper says Michael Beasley might be as untradeable as any player in the NBA right now.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-heat/sfl-askira,0,4255444.story
So if we are looking for young talent on the cheap, does Beasley fit into this? If his value is at an all-time low, can we make a bid for him? What do you think it would take to pry him away from the Heat?
Alan Hahn: Hearing the Clips are still in the Sessions competition despite acquiring Telfair. Apparently, they're already looking to trade Sebastian
Ricky Rubio, the Minnesota Timberwolves' top draft pick last month, told the team shortly after the draft in a private meeting in Minneapolis that he's prepared to play in Minnesota next season if he and his agent can change the buyout with his Spanish DKV Joventut team.
