Jason Cole: Jets' offensive line #7 in NFL

5
7. New York Jets: I can already hear the good folks of Gang Green ripping me for putting this unit only one spot ahead of the Giants after the Jets led the league in rushing last season. That would be a reasonable thing to say if the pass protection hadn’t been so bad last year (the Jets ranked No. 23 according to Football Outsiders). A lot of that goes to the youth of quarterback Mark Sanchez, but facts are facts. All of that said, no line in the league has a better chance of moving up significantly this season than the Jets, even after the release of veteran Alan Faneca.

Jason Cole: Patriots' offensive line #2 in NFL

+
2. New England Patriots: Critics will immediately say the Patriots are over-ranked at this spot. There’s no debating that the group’s high ranking is partially a reflection of the rest of the league being downright mediocre. The Pats have problems right now at left tackle, where Matt Light is close to the end. If they don’t re-sign guard Logan Mankins, the best of the group but who is so unhappy that he has demanded a trade, this unit is going into serious freefall. That said, few groups in the NFL work together as well as the Patriots. Obviously quarterback Tom Brady, the fourth-most hit passer in the league, helps a lot. But it’s still a good unit.

Another Jason Cole Ranking: Dolphins' offensive line #5

+
"This is the best run-blocking unit in the league, hands down, showing the emphasis head coach (and former offensive line coach) Tony Sparano puts on line play." Cole ranks the Patriots at #2, the Jets at #7, and the Bills at #30.

O Logan!

Well then, I think I might need to find a new favorite Patriot.  At the moment, it would appear Mankins' days in New England are over (whether he's traded or just sits the season out in Mr. Kraft's...

The seventh round selection becomes Miami's first draft pick to sign with the team, reportedly a four year deal. via Matty and Mike Berardino's Twitter accounts [Editor's note from Matty I: If you follow me on Twitter, you would know this already. Henne: "I haven't done anything yet"

"Any nice comments from our owner is always good," Henne said. "But it's not just one person. It's a team out there. As a team, we've got to jell together." It's good to see Gort running his unemotional/diplomatic response software.

Chad & Mark: A Friendly Challenge

Under the usual circumstances, this thread would end up reading like any of the other Henne vs. Sanchez threads: good points are made, but no one really listens on either side of the argument,...

Jason Ferguson says "fire's still burning"

6
"That fire’s still burning. I didn’t want to go out with an injury. I didn’t want to be remembered like that," said Ferguson, who re-signed with the Dolphins this spring, inking a one-year deal. "When I leave this game I want to walk off the field. Not be carted off it." Big ol' Fergie (not that Fergie) will certainly be a sight for sore eyes in the Miami locker room come week nine.

Greg Camarillo takes part in NFL's Broadcasting boot camp

"The program, which runs from June 21-24, is directed by the NFL Broadcasting Department and covers a wide range of topics with instructors from each of the NFL’s broadcast partners – CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC, NFL Network, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Westwood One Radio, plus local radio and TV. It will include hands-on work in areas such as tape study, editing, show preparation, radio production, control room operation, studio preparation, production meetings, field reporting and game preparation." I've always been proud of Greg, and it's good to see that he has enough of a head on his shoulders to start preparing for life after football.

Dolphins Terminate Contract Of Reggie Torbor

The Dolphins still have 14,573 other linebackers on the roster. 'Mando Tweets that the move will save the team $3.05 million in 2010 and another $3.05 million in 2011. I smell a forthcoming roster move. via MiamiDolphins.com

Chad Pennington: The quintessential teammate

6
"When I signed that dotted line, I prepared myself for anything and everything. Everything from not seeing a rep, even being cut and traded, all the way to starting every game and going to a Super Bowl. I'm prepared for the worst of situations and the best of situations."Chad Pennington, being his usual, humble self

"Anybody that wants 54, that’s fine."

Zach Thomas, being his classy self. Zach went on to say that he's definitely cheering for AJ Edds, and would love to meet up and talk with him at camp.

Scouts, Inc.: Run Ronnie into the ground

6

ESPN's Tim Graham links to yet another Scouts, Inc. article, this one highlighting a number of running back situations around the NFL. You have to be an ESPN Insider to read the full article, but fortunately, I am indeed a member and can provide you with the text: The Dolphins have one running back whom I trust: Ricky Williams. He still can play at a very high level. He runs with a nasty edge. To me, Miami needs to use him more. Williams should be the lead back for the Dolphins. He was a rock for Miami last season and is one of the most underrated players in this league. Ronnie Brown is coming off yet another injury. He is up for free agency at the end of the season, and it seems highly unlikely that Miami brings him back, so he is another guy that the Dolphins should not hesitate to wear into the ground. That might sound harsh, but this is a business. If used in a rotation, Brown still can be effective. Even going back to his days at Auburn, Brown has never shown to be a true workhorse runner. He does catch the ball well. He needs to re-establish himself in this capacity, which should be a goal for 2010. Lex Hilliard doesn't have a lot of tape to review, but he didn't play badly in his limited time. To me, Williams would get the most meaningful carries, while Brown could complement him and contribute more in the passing game. But in terms of the big picture, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Miami made running back a very high priority after the 2010 season.

The team behind the team: Bob Hack

With the start of the season still months away, I found this quick, little insight into the Miami Dolphins' infrastructure to be pretty interesting. If nothing else, it'll help pass time during the mind numbing summer offseason. In the video, head video director, Bob Hack, is highlighted, and we get a peek into his work to provide coaches and players with all the game and practice film necessary to build a successful football team.
