Well just when major moves were made today, there may be another one that occurs in the next 24 hours. Apparently Ryan Freel may go on the 15-day DL as a result of a strained hamstring. A quote frome Lou: "If Scales isn't too far, he should catch a taxi back from the airport." Apparently, he thinks it is that serious..

Here is the link: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090527&content_id=4989728&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb&partnerId=rss_mlb

Greetings Red Sox fans! I have purchased tickets to an Atlanta Braves at the Boston Red Sox in the upcoming series in June. Because tickets were expensive as hell, I was decided to buy standing room only tickets in the pavillion. I have a couple questions:

1) how is the view? Is it any good?

2) Are you allowed to wander into other areas of the park if you so pleased to?

3) Does it get crowded up there?

4) Is there a certain area of the pavillion that you can only stand? Are there benches nearbly that you could sit on just in case you got tired?

thank you very much

Ryan Theriot - An All-star?

Given his recent power surge and his consistent hitting, Ryan Theroit is certainly a notable candidate that is worthy of all star consideration. He currently has 5 belted home runs and a .298 batting average. Now I am not sure how any other short stop in the National League is performing, but I think that with the Cubs large fan base, the Cajun may get his first All star berth.

Your thoughts on this topic??

How About Jeff Samardzija As Closer?

I've posted this idea in numerous threads, but I thought that this could easily be made into an argument in a fanpost. As you know, the current state of the bullpen is not pretty. The only reliable reliever is Carlos Marmol. So here is the current bullpen as of tonight's active roster:

K. Gregg (CL)
C. Marmol
A. Heilman
N. Cotts
L. Vizcaino
A. Guzman
D. Patton

Marmol is the obvious set-up man and Heilman seems to be settling down into the effective long-relief pitcher. With the promotion of Samardzija, this sparks the question: what will the bullpen soon look like? I think the rumors of Vizcaino being DFA'd are most likely true, however I wouldn't mind if it was Guzman. Guzman has had literally nothing. Vizcaino has done nothing to warrant being released.

Anyway, what about this idea: Jeff Samardzija as our closer? I think he could potentially be our Papelbon. He is a solid reliever whom you can trust, and can rely on going more than one inning just in case (as in coming into the 8th then getting the outs in the 9th). Gregg could take a set-up role like Howry's role on the team was last season. So the bullpen would look like:

Jeff Samardzija (CL), Marmol (Setup), Gregg (setup), Heilman (long relief), Guzman (rather have Vizcaino though), Cotts (LOOGY, but should be replaced by Waddell), and Patton. If the Cubs wanted another lefty, they could just swap Heilman and Marshall.

So....thoughts?

How will VT do in Football next season??

After winning the Orangle Bowl, VT seeks to take it to the next level. The Hokies were definitely lucky last year, for the ACC wasn't really that great of a conference. Because so many teams were mediocre, the Hokies were able to snatch a BCS berth, ultimately winning the game.

So how well do you think the Hokies will play next season? NC State will be a team to watch, given that their quarterback is very solid. UNC will most likely regress. UVA seems poised to have another "5-7"-ish season. I think the Hokies will perform very well next season. They could be a darkhorse for the National Championship.

And So it Begins with Bradley

Looks like his injury will most likely keep him out until the weekend, at least that is what Jim Hendry hopes:

"He's going to miss some games, we knew that," Hendry told WGN radio following Monday's home opener, which was played in the chill and mist at the Friendly Confines. "He's a very strong guy, very tightly muscular from the lower half down. He's going to have some pulls and strains ... we're hoping to minimize the damage and get him back out there as soon as we can."

The rest of the article can be found here: http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=286464&src=152. I don't like this and this was definitely predictable. Combined with the flu epidimec and this, I have a bad feeling about Bradley's tenure..

It is time to DeMote Ted Lilly and Jeromy Burnitz

Guys this has really been grinding my gears for the past couple of games, but I have come to the conclusion that Ted Lilly is nothing more than a bum who cannot pitch well. He just had to give up one hit today! That is inexcusable! Plus his recent horrific streak at hitting has placed him in the 9 hole of the batting order, promptly him to bicker about his current role by stating "I am batting 9th?" This type of insubordination should not be done, and I cannot sit by and let people say that this is fine behavior!

And that goes for you too Jeromy Burnitz, who decided to make a spectatular catch last night against the Brewers only to go through a horrific slump today. You just had to let that single go by you today huh? Well you get the demotion as well.

I cannot stand for such awful play, despite the fact that we are 5-2, nearly all the hitters have great BA, our walk totals are high, our starting pitching has been pretty much consistant, and Marmol continues to dominate.

Tom Glavine Leaves Rehab Start with Sore Shoulder

Tom Glavine has apparently faced another setback, for he lleft his rehab start today after two innings after experiencing discomfort in his throwing arm. He will not start Saturday it appears, here is the link: Click!!

Personally, I believe he should just hang them up. He had a great career and he has nothing left to prove. His elbow is in a funk and now his shoulder, he shouldn't try making a comeback and should go into the HoF with Maddux the same year.

Update, Here is another link: http://www.ajc.com/news/content/sports/braves/stories/2009/04/12/braves_tom_glavine.html

Glavine says in this article that he had discomfort when swinging, which may have been true if it wasn't for his horrible pitching line so far. I think he's trying to make it seem better than it is. He's certainly determined to pitch again, huh?
