Reason Mack Didn't Vote Texas #1
Texas spokesman John Bianco said Brown understood that his vote would be discarded by the American Football Coaches Association if he didn't vote for the winner of the national title game. ... Afraid that his vote wouldn't count and then hurt his team, Brown voted Florida No. 1. But in the final voting, Utah received a first-place vote from its coach Kyle Whittingham.
AFCA spokesman Todd Bell said Brown could have voted the Longhorns No. 1. He cited the precedent of three voters selecting Southern California in the final poll after the 2003 season, even though LSU won the national championship game.
So it turns out Mack could have voted us #1. In fact it would have moved us to #2 in the final coaches poll past USC.
