With the retro 90s jerseys that have been worn over the past several weeks have come mountains of nostalgia from various members of the Brew Hoop cult. Whether it be discussing our favorite Bucks players of the last 20 years, or David Stern paying the refs to ruin Milwaukee in the 2001 ECF, it has all come back.

My favorite memory of that era? The "Light It Up" song that played in house at the Bradley Center during the 2001 season. It generally got the crowd going and still brings me back to a better time with playoff wins and national pub.

In honor of this Grammy Winning song (ok not quite) I have made a remix for the 2013 season. It is a pop/jazz/hiphop version. Enjoy.

It's that time of year in Milwaukee! Trade Speculation time!

What are we going to do with Sam Dalembert? Will Ellis or Jennings get shipped before the deadline? We'll all find out in the next few weeks so I figured this would be a good place for everyone to throw out their trade possibilities.

As usual the ESPN Trade Machine is a great way to check to see if trades are compatible, but try to remember just because salaries match up that doesn't mean the trade always makes sense.

Since I started this forum I'll throw a couple out there:

1. Ellis and protected 2014 1st rounder to Pheonix for Marcin Gortat and Shannon Brown

-Gortat is unhappy in Phoenix and the Bucks sure could use a true center with a NBA caliber low post offense.

-I originally saw a version of this somewhere else without the pick, but I doubt that we could swing it without including either one of our young bigs or a pick.

(Other potential trade involving Ellis: Ellis and Harris to Utah Milsap and Foye)

2. Bucks get Shawn Marion and Marshon Brooks

    Dallas gets Gerald Wallace

Brooklyn gets Ersan and Tobias Harris and Dallas 1st rounder

I substituted Gooden's salary since Ersan can't be traded until 1/15. I like this one and think it works out for all 3 teams.

Feel free to shut me down or throw out any other ideas you may have!

"Can't quibble too much if Melo wins it, but I'd say a lefty sweep of the player of the week honors is in order. First Brandon Jennings rumbled for a Harden-esque 21 points and 13 assists in a stunning win at Boston, then he dropped that buzzer-beating bomb on Cleveland."

The boys over at Bucksketball have a new article up looking for catchy
new nicknames for this season a la "Fear the Dear" to help ignite the
fan base into support for the Bucks. There have been some good ideas,
but I came up with what I think is a pretty awesome promotion

Mondays at the Mecca-

There are 4 home games this season on Mondays vs WAS, UTAH, CHA, and
DEN (all in the second half of the season). None of these games will
draw much support due to the opponents (pretty much anybody not named
CHI, MIA, and LAL is a low draw) and the day of the week. So why not
play these four games at the Historic Mecca?

Mull on that for a minute: 4 Throwback dates with the team and the
fans rocking the smaller, but much louder Arena wearing the throwback
Green and White Smiling-Buck-Spinning-a-Ball shirt/jerseys. Maybe
they would offer throwback concession prices as well (although I doubt
$0.50 beer is a good idea in Milwaukee any day of the week). Either
way, these dates are duds at the BC and unless there are contractual
barriers in place I can't see why this wouldn't work.

Johnny Mac would probably explode from excitement and I can see it
helping to stimulate the casual, older fans into a revamped enthusiasm
for our team that is, hopefully, at this time fighting for a mid-low
playoff spot.

So what do you think O Fellow Followers of the Fawns? Should we
collectively pine for the days of Playoff relavance, short shorts, and
unironic mustaches? Or should we focus on the future and hope the
talent we have assembled is enough to draw Milwaukee's Faithful to the
BC?

A theory on Jennings.

My buddy and I were talking at $1 beer night in Madison (thank you god for Wisconsin) about Brandon Jennings on Thursday and here is what we came up with.

The worst thing to happen to BJ was his 55 pt game. It gave his game unfounded equity. All of the sudden with virtually no NBA experience Young Buck was the King of Milwaukee. It completely distorted people's perceptions of him. It still does. IMO It distorted his own opinion of himself.

The Theory: Brandon is like a guy in a poker tournament who wins a huge pot early. After knocking out two players on a monster hand he is sitting there with a gigantic stack, most likely 3-4 times everyone else at the table. This stack is not a testament to how good of a poker player he is, but rather the fact that he had ONE great hand However, everyone else watching the tournament believes that he is the best player (fans, media) because he is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else in money.

As his chip stack dwindles and he starts to creep towards the middle of the pack, everyone claims the poker player (BJ) is just in a little slump even though his success vs failures are decidedly heavy on the latter, but perception continues to be that he is great because memory will keep going back to that early pot (55 pt-30pt back-to-back). When he fails to win the tournament (finally erase the memory of the 55+30) he is labeled a huge disappointment despite the fact that expectations shouldn't have been that high to begin with.

So how good is Brandon? It is safe to say he is well shy of the D Rose/CP3/ D-WIll level and probably shy of the Westbrook/Rondo plateau as well. So where does he lie? If you take away that improbably hot start to his career you find out that Brandon really reminds one of Mo Williams. Check out each of their first three seasons with MIL. Brandon is years R-3 and Mo is years 2-4 in their careers.

Mo years 2-4: 30 mpg, %s: 43.5/35/85. 13ppg, 5.5apg/ 3.5rpg

BJ years R-3: 34mpg, %s: 39/34.5/81 16.6ppg, 5.4apg, 3.5rpg

A few notes on those splits:

1. Mo beats Brandon in percentages across the board every year (except BJ rookie 3pt%).

2. Brandon has played over 32.5 mpg every year, Mo played 26, 28, and a ridiculous 36.4 in his 3rd year as a Buck.

3. BJ had a half steal more than Mo in every season and about 83 more total.

4. Somebody find me some advance stats to back me up/ refute me. Without advance stats half of you won't find this comparison validated. And of course I am desperate for acceptance and validation.

Anyways, I like that BJ has been going to the rim more often as of late, and that he has taken a step back (literally) to shoot a few more threes than deep twos, but it would appear he is a slightly above average point guard who shoots a little too much and sets-up a little too infrequently which is pretty much how I would describe good ol' Mo Williams.

Regardless, the rest of this season is going to be fun and all the ups and downs have been worth it purely for the entertainment value. Finishing over .500 this season would be encouraging. Final parallel: Mo left Milwaukee after his fourth year in Brew City and ended up in more "Lebron"er pastures. It fairly easy to see BJ taking his talents elsewhere after next year as well.

The Schedule from Hell...

Brace yourselves. Things are about to get pretty crazy in the next few weeks for the Bucks.

As if the team has not had enough trouble already dealing with injuries and a road-heavy schedule to start the year, things are not about to get any easier. Lets break it down real quick.

Must Win Games:

2/15 vs. New Orleans, 2/19 @ New Jersey, 2/28 vs. Washington

Why are these must win games? Well, beside from the fact they are all basement dwellers that the Bucks SHOULD beat, these are the only sub .500 teams that Milwaukee will play in the next 13 games. Because in those thirteen games the Bucks have 10 againstEastern Conference Playoff teams.

The Rest:

ORL (6th): Home-2/11, 2/20 Away- 2/17, 3/03 (4 games!!!)

MIA: (2nd): Home-2/13

CHI: (1st): Home-3/07 Away- 2/22

BOS: (7th): Away-2/29 (leap year!)

ATL: (4th): Away-3/02

PHI: (3rd) Home-3/05

The only Eastern playoff team that we don't see during this stretch is Indiana, but that is about as daunting as you can make it. Personally, I am most worried about the 4 games against Orlando. I have no idea how the Bucks plan to stop Dwight Howard. Drew Gooden has lucked out and only faced two good centers since Bogut got hurt (Bynum, Monroe), but there is no way in the world he can match up at all against the Orlando center...4 times! Our best hope? He gets traded after this weekend to someone that we don't have to play the rest of the year.

There are two bits of good news that we can take away from this schedule:

A. March is just as easy as February is insanely difficult. 11 of the 15 games immediately following the crazy-hard stretch are against teams that are currently under .500 (although 2 of those 11 are against the surging Jeremy Lin-led Knicks). So if we can somehow make it through the first stretch alive, than the rest of the way will be smooth sailing.

B. The entirety of this evil, evil string of games takes place before the March 15th trade deadline. If we end up going 3-10 in this stretch we'll be able to begin the overhaul process, play our rookies, and hopefully get lucky and end up with a top 7-8 lottery pick. Contrastingly, if they somehow end up winning 7 of these 13 games and are in the thick of things during the final run, then they will still have time to make a crucial move, or two, to help them compete and maybe luck out with a first-round matchup that they can handle.

It is clear that this isn't a roster that is going to compete for a championship anytime soon, but winning makes a difference. Winning brings in revenue, winning brings in national media, and winning makes you look attractive to Free Agents. I think our ceiling is a graceful second-round exit in 6-7 games. Our low is probably only as bad as 7th or 8th worst in the league. There are just too many stinkers out there. Meaning another year of mediocrity and frustration.

Brace yourselves. Things are about to get pretty crazy in the next few weeks for the Bucks.

Settling on the Bucks' Nicknames.

The FSN North boys and Ted Davis apparently get pretty bored of calling the Bucks players by their real names and use a plethora of nicknames for each of the players on the team. The invertible internet audience has their own nicknames for the boys as well. I think it is time that we settle once and for all and focus our collective fan analysis into a concrete and defined set of nicknames.

A few rules:

1. The A-Rod Rule- Ever since Alex Rodriguez acquired this nickname it has become the laziest in all of sports. 'Letter-dot-first syllable of last name' is so played out if it were a cassette tape it would be warped. If it were a pair of Jordan IV's it would have a giant hole on the sole. Therefore I declare all variations of this ineligible.

2. Hype Rule- Allen Iverson lived up to his nickname (The Answer), Mark Sanchez has not (Sanchize). If a player has an undeserved nickname then it is henceforth declared irrelevant. If you happened to be the best player on your team and earn a nickname like Mr. Clutch, but spend your time riding the pine in the next level than a new nickname is at hand. Rookies will be allowed a probationary period to keep their college nicknames in which time it will be determined legit or not.

3.Copycat Rule- Dwight stole superman from Shaq. There are other examples. This shan't be tolerated.

Here are my thoughts. Please include your own below.

Andrew Bogut- Aussie Eraser (alternate: Andrew Broke-it)
Both nicknames suit him, but in opposite fashions. It is in my humble opinion that when healthy he
adhere the name of the Aussie Eraser. ...So obviously we won't be calling him that for 8 to 12 weeks.

Brandon Jennings- Young Buck (disqualified: <strike>BJ3</strike> (Copycat Rule))
BJ3 is blatant rip off of a better point guard and Young Buck evokes more of the Oak Hill image that
Brandon projects. From compton to WIScompton baby!

Steven Jackson- Jackson 5 (alternate: Captain Jack) (disqualified: <strike>S-Jax</strike>)
I know that the majority opinion is with Captain Jack, but J-5 cannot get out of my mind. It can be representative of his multiple personalities on the court or the fact that in his tenure with 7 different teams Milwaukee is the first time he has spurned 1 in favor of a different jersey number. Either way I'm more than happy to invoke the A-Rod rule here on S-Jax.

Drew Gooden- The Big Drizzle (hilarious alternate from the past: Recede Wallace)
I don't really get 'drizzle', but I'm going to assume it is because he makes it rain poorly and/or because he has a problem with his prostate. Back before Drew used to shave his head he had a pretty severe case of MPB levying his teammates into giving him this awesomely cruel nickname. Lets start a campaign for Drew to grow his hair out so he sport a sick horseshoe a la Jeff Van Gundy.

Ersan Ilyasova- Turkish Delight (alternate: Ilya-sorta)
Turkish Delight comes to us from the wonderful boys at BrewHoop and is quite effective. It is a definite go to nickname for Ersan. However, if someone was to ask you a few questions about Mr. Delight you will be surprised to see what your answer would be.

Person A: Hey I've heard about this Ilyasova guy on the Bucks. Is he a good scorer?
You: well, yeah sorta
Person A: Is he a good defender?
You: Yes, well sort of
Person A: Hmm...you aren't helping me here. Can you at least tell me if he's good enough to be a starter in the NBA?
You: well....kind of...sort of
Person A: dammit

Carlos Delfino- Del-Phenom (Alternate: Cabezon) (Alternate 2: Delfino Square)
Del-phenom was gifted to him at his stay in Detroit and Cabezon has been with him since Argentina, but I personally have a mental block with Carlos because of the N64 game Diddy Kong racing. In the game there is a level called Delfino Square and it was pretty hard and it always bugged me. Kind of like Carlos. He gets so many steals (power boosts, speed boosts etc) but commits so many turnovers (falling off of cliff, getting hit with a banana, etc).

John Brockman- Brockness Monster (Alternate: JonBoy)
So Brockness Monster is easily the best thing about John Brockman. Its too bad his name doesn't rhyme with the phrase "Hands of Stone".

Jon Leuer- disqualified: <strike>J-Leu</strike> (A-Rod Rule)
Mr. Consistent would be a good one. At the moment he is without a nickname to my knowledge and he has most definitely deserved one in the first third of his rookie campaign.

I also accept him as an exception to the A Rod rule because it is more of a Jay-Z reference ( S Dot Carter) than it is an A-Rod reference. Hmmm...but it could also be a copycat situation then. Either way I'm just going with Shaun until a better name comes up.

I understand the allusion to the Tasmanian Devil, but shouldn't it logically be the Slovenian Devil? Tasmanian Slovenian mostly implies some form of Equatorial neutrality.

You can check out his stuff through his Twitter handle. Bucksketball put up this drawing that he did on their website. Unfortunately, Sanders is proving to be anything, but artistic on the basketball court. He will certainly be getting his minutes in the next 2 and a half months thanks to Andrew Broke-it (see! isn't this fun?) , but it may be his last chance to live up to his first round hype.

Mike Dunleavy- The Natural (hilarious past nickname: Chicken Man) (alternate hilarious proposal: El Pollo Loco)
Yeah, whatever, the Natural is fine. He has a Redford-esque mystique to him and basketball genes in his family, but I am more concerned with Chicken Man because WHAT?! Apparently when he was with the Rockets they had a promo that if the team scored 135 points or more the fans would win free chicken (no other details found). This happened 5 times in a 3 year period and all 5 times Dunleavy scored the 135th point. Awesome. Anyways, I like taking this one step further and going with El Pollo Loco because Dunleavy is so active on offense that it occasionally looks like he is a chicken with his head chopped off

Luc Ricard Mbah a Moute-The Prince (alternate: any of his awesome anagrams)
The Prince works wonderfully, but isn't "Labia Mud Charm Toucher" or "I'm A Dumb Urethral Coach" more fun? However has anyone had a name more reminiscent of a stuffy British butler in the history of names? Hobson! Fetch me my musket! Darington! Bring around the rolls! Chop chop! I don't know if this is just me, but I like butler.
There we go. Those are my thoughts. We all probably yell different 4 letter nicknames at them while watching the games, but these are some good ones to think on. If you have other suggestions please let me know!

Charlie Buckets

Shaun Livingston- S Dot
This is his only nickname and (Steven A. voice) quite frankly (end scene) I'm okay with just calling him Shaun. I also accept him as an exception to the A Rod rule because it is more of a Jay-Z reference ( S Dot Carter) than it is an A-Rod reference. Hmmm...but it could also be a copycat situation then. Either way I'm just going with Shaun until a better name comes up.

Beno Udrih- Muy Bueno Beno (Alternate: Tasmanian Slovenian)
I'm not thrilled with either of these, but I'll take them. I understand the allusion to the Tasmanian Devil, but shouldn't it logically be the Slovenian Devil? I've been writing my own blog with blogspot address, but I thought I'd share some of my thoughts with you guys since you all know what you are talking about. Enjoy.
There is a scene between Russell Crowe and Paul Giamati in the boxing biopic Cinderella Man where after spending quite sometime away from the sport Crowe's character, James Braddock, dominates his opponent in his first match back as a professional. Braddock had lost all steam in the heavyweight rankings relying heavily on a right hand that, through a large portion on his fighting, was fractured and virtually useless. Giamati, Braddock's manager who had berated him for his reliance on his right, is amazed at his fighter's return to the ring and, after the fight, continually asks Braddock where it all came from.

I don't know. When my hand was broke...I had to work down on the docks and I had to use my left.

Last season Bucks fans hardly saw Bogut moving to his right.

He couldn't even extend his arm fully on free throws and shot his lowest career percentages from the the field and the line with .495 and .442, respectively. He has been very open in the press about his lack of confidence last season and how the lockout was a blessing in disguise for his recovery. Many have wondered how, if at all, Bogut would be able to recover from his elbow explosion. Most writers and bloggers have doubted that he will ever live up to the hype of his #1 selection. I would prefer to look at a different angle of this situation. Specifically a few quick bits of info from last season.

Bogut played 35 mpg in 65 games using only his offhand to average 13ppg/11rpg/2.6 bpg.

Blocks, Rebounds and Minutes were all career highs.

The only drastic drop off was in FT% which dropped a hefty 15%

He accomplished all of this WITHOUT FULL STREGTH OF HIS PREDOMINANT SHOOTING ARM.

The biggest stat that jumps out] is his career high in minutes. It's no secret that Bogut has missed his fair share of games in his career, but playing through an injury in your shooting arm is near impossible. Take a second and mime a basketball shot with your arm. You will have two main points where your shot hinges, your wrist and your elbow. Elbow for extension and wrist for rotation. Obviously around the basket you don't have to concern yourself quite as much with rotation with touch not being as much as a factor (although it definitely IS a factor), but try to shoot the ball over 7 footers with 8 foot wingspans without getting extension.

Bogut, in a logical and particularly non-stubborn move, worked exceptionally hard on his left hand game last year. In fact, the vast majority of his post shots were taken with his left hand, one that he utilized at an underwhelming rate in his career up to this point. So let's go back to the Cinderella Man parallel for a moment.

Bragut (Bogut/Braddock) is on the verge of breaking out in his sport (Bogut's All-Star caliber 09-10 season/ Braddock's heavyweight career). A severely crippling injury to their dominant right arm sends them in a spiral to their worst career levels. While at their low points they work excessively with their left hands (Braddock on the docks/ Bogut on the offensively anemic 10-11 Bucks squad). At their return to full health, they both dominate their sports and become champions (Ok this has only happened in the movie...SO FAR!!)

I am not going to say that Bogut is going to develop into the best offensive big man in the game, but he now has twice the weapons that he used to. Yes, he used to use his left hand, but it was almost always in a passive deference to a defender overplaying his right side. Also, if Bogut would have average 60% from the line last season (not unreasonable considering his career average) he would have averaged closer to 13.5 ppg, the 3rd best total in his career, without the use of his predominant shooting arm.

There are a few things that we can always expect from Bogut.

He will always look like he is whining.

He will average 10rpg (since his 2nd season never less that 9 and never more than 11).

He will miss almost as many free throws as he takes.

He will buy an entire section of tickets for Bucks fans.

He will play his guts out every night.

He will not buck (no pun intended) management.

With all those factors considered, in addition to his increased offensive arsenal, I have no reason to not believe that Bogut will pick up right where he left off before that fall, dunking on Amare. It would be very reassuring for the Bucks to sign someone like Pryzbilla to fill the defensive presence at the 5 spot rather than relying on underweight Sanders and under-height Gooden and Brockman to set his floor time in the realm of 31-32 minutes a game, but until then he may have to pla

y more than hoped in a shortened season. So far he is averaging 14.3/10/1.25spg/1.75bpg on 43% shooting. Fairly average for his career, but the only stat that matters at the moment is the team is 3-2 in games with him and 0-4 without him. With his family issues behind him and with another day off to recover from a double dose of jet lag (to Australia and back in 7 days) before Milwaukee plays 4 in 6 days, Bogut should be as ready as ever to show that he is the 2nd best center in the Eastern Conference.
