I'm a freshman at the University of Iowa, majoring in physics and astronomy. I love old baseball stats (Baseball Reference is heaven), and I also play the upright bass. I'm also addicted to Sporcle.

The old RRRR was making my laptop run slow, so time to refresh. With the football playoffs underway, the basketball and hockey seasons chugging along and featuring strong Chicago teams, and...

RRRR: I have come to a city--a real city--and they call it Chicago

I really should get right to reviewing my trip to Chicago and seeing the July 26 game where Detroit beat us by one run but Dunn had a two run homer. But, just conjuring the trip in my mind is like...

Chuck Tanner and Dick Allen smiling about something in spring training, 1973. Tanner died today at the age of 82. Before guiding the 1979 Pirates to the World Series he was the Sox skipper for five up-and-down years in the early '70s; his best year was the 87-win 1972 edition of the Sox. Alas, the picture can't show the bright red Sox uniforms of his tenure. The picture is from Corbis Images.
