"When he (Albert) was hurt," Waters says, "he was watching more film than anybody. He didn’t go to sleep like some guys do. ‘I’m not playing for a couple weeks, not practicing; I might as well relax.’ He wasn’t like that. He was very uptight about the fact that he wasn’t practicing. That type of character and that type of motivation, you rarely see it in young guys."

Remember the outcry when the Chiefs failed to pull the trigger on a trade that would have sent Tony Gonzalez to the Packers? Since then, Green Bay has sunk like a stone, compiling a 2-6 record. That’s still better than the Chiefs, but would it have really been worth it to Tony G to make that move? Just asking.

New GM From Outside Organization = Herm Will Be Fired

I've been saying for months that Herm was going to get another year no matter what happens this year.  Well, looks like I'm probably going to be wrong.  If there were plans to keep Herm and the...

"I really don’t want to repeat it," he said. "I remember it exactly. What they said; everything. I just don’t want to say some of the stuff people have said because I don’t want to say that." Niswanger said he has adjusted to the idea that not all fans are supportive, and some are not shy about sharing their feelings. The fan at the event shared his opinions about the team, its personnel, its players — and all the firings and releases that fan would orchestrate if he were in charge. "The majority of people are supportive," Niswanger said this week. "But some are just like, ‘Hey, you guys (stink).’ Some people have been more vulgar than that."

Flowers and Carr are still in their first NFL seasons. But Marshall said that today, when the Chiefs make their annual visit to Denver, he won’t look at them as anything but veterans. "I think a lot of people this year have taken them lightly," Marshall said. "I probably did the first half of the game when we played them. They’ve made an adjustment. They’re playing great ball. You can tell they study and they’re giving 100 percent effort on every play. Marshall has noticed that for all the work that remains for the Chiefs to repair their faulty defense, they are set at cornerback. Between Flowers, Carr and another rookie, third cornerback Maurice Leggett, the Chiefs won’t have to look for help at the position during the offseason.

"What I like about this football team right now, and while I don’t like our record and wish we had won some more games and we’re going to continue to try and do that, I like the way they’ve held together through all the adversity and everything that has gone on. They have not embarrassed this organization as far as their effort. Hasn’t been good enough at times to win football games, but I think when you have this many young guys and you have some leaders that we do have it’s critical at this stage of rebuilding a football team. A lot of teams don’t handle it the way these guys have handled it and they’ve handled it correctly. It’ll play dividends for them and that’s what you sense when you’re around these guys.

Johnson said the Chiefs didn’t employ any gimmicks Sunday; in fact, he said Kansas City’s defensive play-calling wasn’t much different than it was in the first game. But this time, he said, players didn’t abandon fundamentals or their assignments. 2nd Time A Charm For Chiefs Defense

Furthermore, according to the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald, (Javon) Walker's contract virtually guarantees the team will have to pay him a $5 million bonus despite his injury. McDonald continued bearing bad news: "Should Oakland pay the guarantee as stipulated and then cut Walker, the 2009 cap charge $14,166,667 to terminate the relationship. Combined with the Hall dead money, that's $20 million in dead money."

"The thing about Larry is that he's great if you're dealing with him one-on-one," said the ex-teammate. "He's got good values and he's got a big heart. But where Larry has an issue is in the perception that comes with being a black guy who grew up middle-class. I always thought Larry was trying to prove himself to the guys who grew up worse off than him, that he was a street kid who knew about that life."

Q: How is he (Larry Johnson) adjusting to the changes in the offense? THIGPEN: "He’s adjusting to it. We’ve got things in there for him, so it’s nothing different. His attitude toward the game, more or less, has changed, and we’re excited about that. He’s eager to come to work, and he’s saying work hard, so we’re excited about it." Q: His attitude has changed in what way? THIGPEN: "You can just tell the way he is around his teammates. I’m not saying he was a bad teammate by any means, but his attitude has changed. I don’t know if that was an awakening for him, with what all happened to him, but he’s just eager to come to work each week."

Javon Walker has been, pretty much, a tremendous failure for crazy Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders this year, hauling in only 15 passes through the teams first nine games of the season. And at $12 million dollars this year, that's only $800,000 per catch. And that one touchdown? Yeah, that cost $12 million.

It has been well documented what Herm Edwards cannot do. But here are things I think he can do: He can build a football team. He can keep that football team together. He can inspire players, and he can motivate them into buying in, and he can get them to play hard week after week. Those things, I think, are more important than someone who can design cool plays on napkins. H/T Woodman212

As for advice on how to handle himself this week, Charles said he mostly has gotten that from tight end Tony Gonzalez. "(Gonzalez) just said to first stay focused," Charles said. "He’s a Hall of Fame tight end, so I listen up. "And he’s been telling me how to protect the ball. That’s why I fumbled the ball (last week). I wasn’t concentrating on protecting it. "I was trying to do too much. I did a good job before that in the game, protecting the ball. I was just trying to break a tackle when I fumbled. I needed to get (the ball) high and tight. I didn’t do that but I will from now on."

The Chiefs released quarterback Ingle Martin to clear roster room for the signing of safety Oliver Celestin. That means the Chiefs will go with only Tyler Thigpen and Quinn Gray as QBs for Sunday's game at San Diego. Look for Martin to re-sign with the Chiefs on Monday. I guess they can always put Bradley in in an emergency. :)

Bradley has 10 catches in three games. That’s one fewer than receivers Devard Darling, Jeff Webb and Will Franklin have combined in more than twice as many games. The team hoped one of those receivers would emerge during training camp or the preseason or even the regular season, but none did.

"I spoke to Bruce Allen who is a good friend of mine prior to the game last Sunday (Allen is the general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.) He said, ‘Gun we can’t believe what we see on the tape.’ I asked him what he was talking about and he said ‘our whole staff marvels at how hard these guys (the Chiefs defense) play. They never worry about the score or the game, they just keep playing and they are running around like crazy men.’ "If there’s one thing I can say, I see that. I’ve been around a long time. The people of Kansas City have to hold on. It’s going to happen and when it does, it’s not going to stop."
