Arrowhead Pride Matt Cassel vs. Trent Green revisted

Three years ago I created a Fanpost shortly after the acquisition of Matt Cassel. Everyone was starving for a quaterback (much like today still) and most Chiefs fans were excited to finally get a potential quality quarterback who had potential to be around for awhile.

Check out this minute long video I created for the 2012 Royals season. It's basically the same thing as the pre-game video shown at Allen Fieldhouse, but for the Royals! Hope everyone enjoys!

Arrowhead Pride Chiefs ARE going to run the 3-4

Herm Edwards was a guest on 810 radio today with Keitzman and said that the chiefs are in fact going to run the 3-4 this coming year. He mentioned that he and his staff had even considered going to the 3-4 as the year was "dwindling" away. He went on to say that Scott Pioli is very comfortable drafting those type of players and picking them from free agency.

Herm's tone sounded like it was a sure thing and you would think he would have a good idea of what Pioli's plans would since he worked with him for 3 weeks and Scott probably told Herm his direction for the football team. When asked about Dorsey and how he would fit in he said that he had no doubt Dorsey could play the nose tackle and be very good but he wasnt for sure on how exectly they would use him. That part kind of just sounded like Herm being Herm and being a positive guy though.

So there it is boys, we finally have some halfway credible "(former)inside" information that the 3-4 will indeed now be run in red and gold....its been conhermed

Arrowhead Pride Free agent WR's

While wide receiver isnt the most pressing need on this team i believe it still needs some upgrading. This years draft is deep in WR and would could get a prospect there, but as an alternative to that I think there are some quality guys out there in free agency that could come in and help us.

Now most of these guys are big names that are older and most likely on their decline, but guys like Marvin Harrison , Joey Galloway, and Torry Holt (if he gets released) are all guys that could come in and help us out for a year or two or possibly three. I have always been a person who favors younger players, but in this case for this year I think we should get a quality WR in free agency. We should use our draft picks to build up other weakness on the team like d-line, o-line, and of course linebacker.

We could probably get any three of these guys at a reasonable deal and I think they could make a real impact for Cassel and our offense. Another wild card would be Keary Colbert. He came out a few years ago from USC, and was actually a roomate with Matt Cassel in college. He hasnt been highly productive at all in the NFL yet, but he will only be 27 when the season starts and I think his connection with Cassel would be a good fit. The good news is that there have been some "reports" that the chiefs might be interested in him, but who knows what the Chiefs braintrust is actually thinking anymore.

So I'm interested to see what the people around here think, should we address the wide receiver position more through the draft or free agency this year and who would you go with?

Arrowhead Pride Matt Cassel vs. Trent Green

Let me start by saying that I believe that our recent trade for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel for our 2nd rounder was a great trade and has potential to be one of the great steals in recent years in the NFL. If we can get a franchise quarterback for potentially 8-10 years (he will be 27 years old by the start of the season), for the cost of a 2nd than that is unbelievable. Whether he turns out to be boom or bust is yet to be determined, if he is a bust then we are only out one 2nd round pick...worth the risk  IMO.

As you all probably know, in 2001 we traded our 1st round pick for Trent Green who was 31 years old at that time. He gave us five excellent years under center, and amassed 21,459 yards passing in his total of 6 years with the team. Anybody would agree that is a terrific number for a 5 year period.

While passing yards is not the only way to judge a quarterback, it is a very relevant one and leads me to my question...could Matt Cassel eclipse that mark for the Chiefs? Because of his age he could be around for longer than Trent, which is an advantage, but Cassel probably wont be privy to the level of offense in his time here as Green was.
