Matt Cassel=Drew Bledsoe....maybe?

Now this may seem like a tough comparison to some considering Cassel hasn't played long enough to judge purely statistically vs Bledsoe. However, Id like to examine more closely why I personally think Matt could be just the QB we are looking for. Is it by chance that Bledsoe happened to QB the team some say we are trying to mold our own Franchise after?..... possibly. First, SIZE.....

Bledsoe 6-5 238lbs vs Cassel 6-5 230lbs

Second, what i would call SCHOOL/DRAFT/CREDENTIALS

Bledsoe-Washington St., 1st round Draft Pick, played tons at Washington St and was highly regarded coming out of college as a future franchise QB. VS Cassel-USC, 7th round Draft Pick, sat behind 2 other talented QB's through college but fits the mold stature wise to play QB....(this is where there is a large discrepancy).

The stats are here for all to see and make his or her own judgments on...

IMO though....I think only time will tell if Matt Cassel is going to be in the mold of someone like Drew Bledsoe or is he going to go the route of what some would call the Trent Dilfer/game manager/dont screw it up cuz ur not good QB. Look at the completion percentages from Bledsoe...some good...some terrible...and when I think back I really didnt mind Drew Bledsoe. I thought he was a good QB for New England. I had no clue about some of the pedestrian completion percentages. From the simple viewer perspective he seemed to get the job done and be a serviceable QB. More than than, he was what i considered a slightly above average QB...but some of those numbers would lead me to say?....fairly AVERAGE?....

Now let me be clear AP. I in NO WAY am satisfied with the play of Cassel thus far in his time here in KC. However, I am VERY willing to give him the WR's/TE's/OL/RB's time to mold together. I don't envision Cassel making enough improvements to freeze the safety and throw a frozen rope down the seam like Favre OR dissect a defense in to submission like Peyton Manning....But I also dont think he has to....I envision Matt becoming a leader of the offense and the team...making enough throws with the help of good offensive scheming to help us both win the game and not lose it. I think what is sometimes overlooked with QB's like Matt who arent taken 1st overall in the draft or in the 1st round for that matter is the amount of time people are willing to give for improvement. We basically payed the guy like a top draft choice so lets treat him like all the other top QB's that were drafted...they got time....Now I'm not saying 3 or 4 years....but if most of us can admit our team is 1 to 2 years away from being an elite team in the NFL then lets not get worried when Matt throws less yards than the Dirty Sanchez in week 1. AHHH i digress....

When I thought about it....I wouldnt mind Drew Bledsoe...is it too much of a stretch?

With FA starting up obviously one of the big needs of this team is OL help...I personally would not be unhappy if a LT was drafted in the first round, sliding albert to guard, waters to center(or drafting a center)....but what about Colin Brown at guard? Does anyone know any good info on this guy?....On paper 6'7 335lbs. 24 yrs old....he's listed at G and I just wondered what the AP knew about his skill set and such...lost Wade Smith...Niswanger is a backup...I like OCally

Haley/Weis Offense

Hey AP! This is my first post, though I browse through the pages of this website daily; this website is head and shoulders better than any other chiefs site or NFL team site for that matter.

I recently was reading through a fan-post when i stumbled across numerous people asking what type of offense our new OC Weis runs, and how that offense differs or coincides with the offense we currently run with Haley at the helm.

Numerous sources around the NFL have stated that Weis to KC was about as perfect a fit as u could find....so I thought I would elaborate on why I completely agree.

Numerous sources around the NFL have stated that Weis to KC was about as perfect a fit as u could find....so I thought I would elaborate on why I completely agree.

Both Haley and Weis run what is formally known as the Erhardt-Perkins Offensive System
This offense uses multiple formation and personnel groupings with an emphasis on just a number of core base plays.
It utilizes multiple schemes to take advantage of opponents weaknesses. The base plays can be manipulated slightly during a game or in weekly preparation. (spacing, routes,personnel, etc.)
This offense emphasizes time of possession and though it may use some screen plays at times, often this offense does not call on the RB's to serve as WR's.
Normally this system tends to favor the run over the pass, though its not always a run first offense. In fact most times the pass is used to set up the run in this system.
Erhardt was famous for his saying, "pass to score, run to win"
This is the system Weis used in all of his days as the NE OC as well as his tenure at Notre Dame. It's not just Weis though....Yes Bill Parcells used this system during his entire coaching career. Moreover, the Pittsburgh Steelers under Cowher used this system....Cower-Wisenhunt.....Wisenhunt-Haley...yes this offense is run by the Arizona Cardinals as well...

I am very pleased with Weis' hire mainly because all of the terminology, groupings, formations, base plays, all of it will be the same; that's not to say that they wont add more to the playbook, but none of the players except for rookies or free agents will be learning a new system which i believe will help everyone create more continuity. Plus! I'm not sure if his contract terms have been released yet, but I would be very curious to find out how much money he will actually make; we could be getting a bargain for a very good OC (considering all the dough the Irish still owe him).
