Eric Winston: PFF Breakdown
This might be a duplicate but a really good article.
"Consistently one of our higher graded right tackles, Winston fit the zone-blocking scheme perfectly with his ability to move laterally and get to the second level. His agility is a big reason why the Texans have had so much success in the run game recently. What’s more, he’s coming off a very good year with his pass protection. Not an easy feat when, for a large portion of the year, you have a rookie quarterback that likes holding onto the ball..."

2011 Run Stop Percentage 3-4 Defensive Ends
Not sure if this is a duplicate.
"A testament to coaching and patience, Jackson led all 3-4 ends by registering a defensive stop on 10.6% of all running plays he was in for–no mean feat since only the Cardinals’ defensive ends played more snaps in this regard than him. The Chiefs don’t get much pass rush from their 5-techniques, but with Glenn Dorsey in sixth place on this list, you get an idea of what both men bring to the table. Maybe you want more from Top 5 picks, but they’re getting something from them.

Chiefs' Nation: It Feels Good To Be Back
I think that many of you know me as one of the most passionate Chiefs fans out there. I am also pretty dedicated addicted to this site. That was until the last couple of months or so. There were some issues going on in my life plus work that strayed me away from my usual commenting and posts. However, that isn't what this post is about.
The last two years I have been living at the other side of Missouri--in Rams' Country. I was really the only person that wore anything Chiefs. I was the only one in a mile radius with anything Chiefs on the outside of the house. I can feel for anyone living out of state.
I am now living back on the right side of Missouri (I grew up in St. Joseph). I now live in Grandview which to me is unfamiliar territory. However, the BBQ smell, Chiefs decor, and city life all feels right. I am now back in Chiefs' Nation.
A lot of you are probably tired of hearing about the Brandon Carr, Dwayne Bowe, Peyton Manning, Peyton Hillis, and draft talk. I am just glad there is any talk at all. I already had neighbors welcome my family and I into the area. The woman across the street is from Iowa and a big Tony Mo' fan. This might not seem like no big deal to most of you but it is. Especially, when you live far away from the "motherland" for so long.
I know a lot of you missed me and yes, I'm looking at you UPS. So just a warning I'll be commenting and posting more like I used to.
Go Chiefs Nation!

Stanford Routt: 49th Best Free Agent
I don't know if this is a duplicate but some pretty good information about Routt.
"The recently-cut Raider cornerback was always going to struggle to justify the contract the team gave him, and so it proved. He led the league in penalties (17) and touchdowns allowed (9) as he was tasked with filling the boots of Nnamdi Asomugha. He’s better than those numbers would suggest and could really benefit with a scheme that provides more help."
Pro Bowl: 32 Observations
While Derrick Johnson had an average beginning and end to the season, the middle was very strong. From Week 4 to Week 14 he averaged 5.4 stops per game, and had at least a +0.6 run defense rating in each of those games.

32 Teams, 32 Observations
Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt had 16 of his punts downed, which was the most by a punter this year.
2011 PFF All Pro Team
Derrick Johnson made the second team 3-4 ILB with Brian Cushing. The first team was Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman.
Re-Focused: Chiefs @ Broncos
- There were five plays where Dwayne Bowe was thrown at while Champ Bailey was covering him. All five balls were caught for 85 yards.
Game Ball
Glenn Dorsey had way too many plays to not get picked here. The reason the Broncos didn’t win is their lack of offense, and their main form of offense is running the ball. Dorsey did everything he could to shut that down.
Re-Focused: Raiders @ Chiefs
- Tyson Jackson (+1.6) made five defensive stops for the second time in three games, bringing his season total to 37, the third-most among 3-4 defensive ends
32 Teams, 32 Observations
While Tamba Hali hasn’t been the epic pass rusher he was last year, he only had a positive run defense rating in six of 17 games. This year he has doubled that to a positive rating in 12 games, with just three with a negative rating.
PFF Player Of The Year Candidates
Derrick Johnson
The level of play at inside linebacker this season at the very top has been simply astonishing with no less than five players putting in performances to a level that would be worthy of All-Pro consideration. While the likes of Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Brian Cushing, and Ray Lewis have put in those displays on playoff-bound teams, Derrick Johnson is not getting the same recognition playing for the underachieving Chiefs. His every-down play shedding blocks in the running game is as good as any of the other four in this group and his ability in coverage is strong as well, allowing only 68.9% of passes his way to be completed. However, for Johnson it’s the marquee plays and what he has meant to the Chiefs in key situations that establish him just that half step above the others who are playing so well this season. Plays such as his series in Oakland in Week 7: at a crucial juncture of the game, Johnson made all four stops on a goal-line stand inside the Kansas City 5-yard-line to keep the Raiders out of the end zone and off of the scoreboard. It’s for his down-to-down consistency and his ability to carry the Chiefs’ defense in critical spots that Derrick Johnson is the one player from a group of five exceptional inside linebackers who merits the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
PFF's AFC Pro Bowl Squad
Derrick Johnson
In the wreck which is the Chiefs season, one thing stands out; the performance of Derrick Johnson. A long time ago in a season far, far away (2009 actually) a very silly coach benched the Mr. Johnson for what appeared to be the heinous crime of being the second best player on the team. Well now he’s the best; a guy who can meet fullbacks head on or tracks speedy halfbacks to the sideline and the aforementioned coach is out of a job. What goes around comes around I guess...
Week 16 Match-Up: Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders
It is a short week and we face our rival the Raiders in 2 days! It will be a good Christmas present if the Chiefs blowout the Raiders for the 2nd time this year. The Chiefs need to win this in order to be kept alive in the playoff race. We then need another Christmas present from the Bills. They can crush the Broncos for us and gift wrap the remains.
I'll take a look at the passing, rushing, special teams, and coaching. I'll also look at the x-factor while being as unbiased as possible.
Chiefs QB: Kyle Orton
Raiders QB: Carson Palmer
The Raiders are 12th in passing yards averaging 237 yards through the air. The Chiefs are ranked 26th in passing yards averaging 186 yards through the air. The Raiders defense is ranked 23rd in pass defense. They are giving up 244 yards in the air per game. The Chiefs defense is ranked 9th in pass defense. The Chiefs are giving up 210 yards through in the air per game. The Raiders are allowing their opponents to complete 53 percent of their passes. The Chiefs are allowing their opponents to complete 58 percent of their passes. The Raiders have 39 sacks and 15 interceptions this year so far. The Chiefs have 17 sacks and 17 interceptions this year so far. Carson Palmer has thrown for 13 interceptions in 259 passing attempts with the Raiders. Kyle Orton didn't throw an interception last week in his first start with the Chiefs.
When The Chiefs Pass: Chiefs
When The Raiders Pass: Chiefs
Chiefs Running Backs: Thomas Jones, Jackie Battle
Raiders Running Backs: Michael Bush, Taiwan Jones
The Raiders are 6th in rushing with 139 yards per game. The Chiefs are 14th in rushing with 118 yards per game. The Raiders run defense is ranked 26th giving up 135 yards per game. The Chiefs run defense is ranked 24th giving up 130 yards per game. The Raiders are the better rushing team but McFadden won't suit up again. Jones and Bush are also limited in practice so far this week.
When The Chiefs Run: Tie
When The Raiders Run: Tie
Chiefs Special Teams: Ryan Succop, Dustin Colquitt, PR/KR Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster
Raiders Special Teams: Sebastian Janikowski, Shane Lechler, PR/KR Denarius Moore, Jacoby Ford
Janikowski has only missed 3 field goals this year but has made 6 over 50 plus yards. Succop has only missed 3 field goals and has made 3 over 50 plus yards. Succop currently owns the NFL's current active streak with field goals made with 21 in a row. Lechler is averaging 50.5 yards per punt with 25 within the 20 yard line. Colquitt is averaging 45.7 yards per punt with 22 within the 20 yard line. The Raiders are averaging 21.6 yards per kick off return and 8.8 yards per punt return. The Chiefs are averaging 21.2 yards per kick off return and 11.9 yards per punt return. The Raiders coverage team is allowing 24.3 yards per kick off return and 13.3 yards per punt return. The Chiefs coverage team is allowing 20.5 yards per kick off return and 12.1 yards per punt return. The Raiders kickers are better but Succop is on fire. The Chiefs coverage team is doing better though. I'm going to call this for the Raiders based on they will most likely have better field position. It will be close though.
Special Teams: Raiders
Chiefs Coaches: Romeo Crennel, Bill Muir
Raiders Coaches: Hue Jackson, Al Saunders, Chuck Bresnahan
The Chiefs were in coaching turmoil not too long ago but Crennel has rallied the team. The Raiders have slipped a lot when just 4 weeks back they were clear favorites for the division. They are still in it but it is very slim. I'll have to go with the coaching staff to beat the previously undefeated packers last week in midst of everything that was going on with the team.
Coaching: Chiefs
This is a game that both teams need to win. The last time the teams have played the Chiefs won 28 to 0 but the Raiders were in a QB trouble at that point. I do believe the Raiders have won every year at Arrowhead since 2006. The Chiefs are at home coming off a huge win against the Packers. The Raiders seemed to give up last week. I'll give the edge to the home team.
X - Factor: Chiefs
The Chiefs seemed to have a big spark last week with Orton and Crennel. The defense has been playing lights out against the pass recently. Palmer is far from the best QB we have faced this season. The first time the Chiefs had his number but he only knew like 10 plays he said. I'm hoping it will be a blowout but it will be close. The Raiders always seem to have our number at our house. I'm 7-7 this year in picking Chiefs' games. The Chiefs win this one in a battle.
Winner: Chiefs
Re-Focused: Packers @ Chiefs
- Brandon Carr was thrown at six times but allowed just a single reception for eight yards. That translates to 1.3 yards per target.
- Every member of the Chiefs starting 11 on offense graded positively for the game, with all five linemen in the green.
Game Ball
Tamba Hali and Kyle Orton. This was a complete effort on both sides of the ball for Kansas City, so Orton and Hali share the spoils.

Signature Stats Snapshot: Offensive Tackle Pass Blocking Efficiency
Branden Albert is tied for top 10 tackle in the league. He has given up 5 sacks, 5 hits, 12 hurries for 22 total pressures That might seem like a lot but the top tackle Joe Thomas has given up 19 total pressures.
Three To Focus On: Packers @ Chiefs
-Arenas is the primary slot cornerback in the Chiefs’ nickel defense and has been exceptional when he sees the field (+5.0 overall.) His 56.7 NFL QB rating on passes thrown into his coverage is best among Kansas City CBs and tied for 10th in the NFL. He has yet to allow a touchdown, and to top it off, has generated seven total QB pressures on a mere 18 pass rush attempts.

Week 15 Match-Up: Kansas City Chiefs vs Green Bay Packers
Alright, I've been busy during the holidays so I missed a couple of these match-ups. This week we face the undefeated Green Bay Packers. This is the Chiefs first game with interim coach Romeo Crennel. The Chiefs will also have a new starting QB for this week.
I'll look at the passing, rushing, special teams, and coaching. I'll also look at the x-factor while trying to be complete unbiased.
Chiefs QB: Kyle Orton or Ricky Stanzi
Packers QB: Aaron Rodgers
The Packers are 3rd in passing yards averaging 304.6 yards per game. The Chiefs are ranked 30th in passing yards averaging 177.4 yards per game. The Packers defense is ranked 31st in pass defense. They are giving up 288.7 yards per game through the air. The Chiefs defense is ranked 10th in pass defense. They are giving up 209.3 yards per game through the air. The Packers are allowing their opponents this year to complete 60.1 percent of their passes. The Chiefs are allowing their opponents this year to complete 58.7 percent of their passes. The Packers have 27 sacks and 27 interceptions this season. They have given up 33 sacks and 7 interceptions. The Chiefs have 23 sacks and 17 interceptions. They have given up 33 sacks and 16 interceptions.
When The Chiefs Pass: Tie (If Kyle Orton Starts)
When The Packers Pass: Packers
Chiefs Running Backs: Thomas Jones, Jackie Battle
Packers Running Backs: James Starks, Ryan Grant
The Packers are 27th in rushing with 99.5 yards per game. The Chiefs are 15th in rushing with 116.4 yards per game. The Packers defense is 12th in rushing giving up only 106 yards per game. The Chiefs defense is 15th in rushing giving up only 115.4 yards per game. The Packers are gaining 3.9 yards per rushing attempt this year. The Chiefs are gaining 3.9 yards per rushing attempt this year.
When The Chiefs Run: Packers
When The Packers Run: Chiefs
Chiefs Special Teams: Ryan Succop, Dustin Colquitt, PR/KR Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster
Packers Special Teams: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, PR/KR Randall Cobb
Crosby has only missed 2 field goals this season and is perfect from 50 and beyond. Succop has missed 3 field goals and is also perfect from 50 and beyond. Masthay has a 44.9 yard punt average and 16 punts in the 20. Colquitt has 45.6 yard punt average and 22 punts in the 20. The Packers have a 25.4 yard average when returning kickoffs. The Packers have a 12 yard average when returning punts. The Chiefs have a 21.2 yard average when returning kickoffs. The Chiefs have a 11.9 yard average when returning punts. The Packers coverage team has given up 23.2 yards average on kickoffs and 14.9 yards average/1 touchdown on punts. The Chiefs coverage team has given up 20.2 yards average on kickoffs and 12.5 yards average/1 touchdown on punts.
Special Teams: Tie
Chiefs Coaches: Romeo Crennel, Bill Muir
Packers Coaches: Mike McCarthy, Dom Capers, Joe Philbin
The Coaching staffs are in two different places right now. Mike McCarthy is possibly on his second straight Super Bowl run. Dom Capers defense is really the only weak link. Romeo Crennel is the interim head coach after the firing of Todd Haley earlier this week. Crennel is not new at being a head coach however. Bill Muir's offense is the weak link of the Chiefs team.
Coaching: Packers
The Chiefs are playing at home but their home field advantage doesn't mean too much these days. The players might be fired up especially on defense playing for Romeo Crennel. Kyle Orton might give the offense the spark they need too. However, the Packers are just on fire right now and want to continue their win streak/dominance.
X - Factor: Packers
I don't even think the biggest Chiefs homer would say the Chiefs will win this week. If the offense plays well then perhaps it won't be a blowout this week. The Packers are just too good right now. They also have more depth at key positions. The Packers will win but it will probably be closer than we expect. I'm 7-6 when picking Chiefs games this year.
Winner: Packers
32 Teams, 32 Observations
Kansas City Chiefs: Inside linebacker Derrick Johnson leads the league in stops at 59 regardless of position.
Five Analysts, Five Questions
4) Biggest surprise this week?
Neil: That Todd Haley lasted this long. Ever since the bizarre benching of their best player, Derrick Johnson, for a year ( a game? Maybe….just. A year? Stupidity) I’ve had concerns that Haley has been the personification of the arrogant "I know better" type coach. He’s had a load of great players but somehow doesn’t make best use. In 2010 Jamal Charles has 239 carries, Thomas, I’ll take whatever the line gives me but absolutely no more, Jones had 248. He gets Tony Moeaki and Matt Cassel injured in the 4th pre-season game when most self respecting starters are in civvies and even when he wins he loses. Somehow the Chiefs pick up Jared Gaither, a lazy but supremely talented player. They have problems on their line but Gaither is relegated to tight end duty in goal-line. A false start gets him fired after 26 snaps. I can still see Haley in my minds eye now saying "that will show him". Well actually no Todd, it really just showed how little you’ve done with talent as Gaither goes straight to starting for the Chargers and in two games ( 121 snaps) is still to give up a single pressure.
Ouch!
I love this shirt :)

Three To Focus On: Chiefs @ Jets
1.) Tamba Hali vs Jets' Offensive Line
2.) Revis Island Welcomes Dwayne Bowe
3.) Chiefs Run Game vs Jets' Run Defense
32 Teams, 32 Observations
Kansas City Chiefs: Rookie defensive linemen Allen Bailey (221) typically takes some pass rushing plays, but recently has shown he deserves more. He has six pressures on 45 pass rushes in the past three games
Chiefs Defense!
Something that I was just looking up this morning. In our last 3 games our defense has given up 283.7 yards per game. That is good for 4th in the league (based on the last 3 games). The Chiefs' defense is also 4th in the league (based on the last 3 games) in passing defense only allowing 164.3 yards per game. That's pretty amazing considering we played the Patriots and Steelers in 2 of those games.

Re-Focused: Chiefs @ Bears
-On a day where malaise and mediocrity was in vogue, the one unit that really upped their game was the Chiefs’ linebackers. All four of their starters contributed in extremely positive ways and fueled the Chiefs’ stifling defensive display.
-Kansas City’s 21 total QB pressures (combining sacks, hits and pressures) were their most since their playoff defeat to Baltimore in January when they recorded 22.
-The lack of press that Derrick Johnson still receives is utterly baffling. Yet another fine performance for the Chiefs’ defensive star this week as he continues to state his case as the best inside linebacker in the AFC.
