Mixed Martial Arts

SPOILER ALERT!!

For those mixed martial arts fans on here, hope you were able to see the fight last night between Brian Stann and Doug Marshall for the WEC light heavyweight championship title.  You can watch the fight Saturday when Versus will re-air it.

Stann is an active duty Marine and was my unit's guest of honor at our Marine Corps Birthday Ball last November.  Stann's had quite a couple of years with a couple of tours to Iraq while earning the Silver Star award during one of those tours all the while continuing to train for MMA fights.

Stann took the title from Marshall last night in only his sixth fight (the deployments obviously is keeping that number low right now) and does not look like he will be giving it up any time soon.  He already owns the record for the quickest knockout  (16 seconds) which came in only his second fight.

Bagwell retires

Per ESPN, Jeff Bagwell has called it quits.  Quite a player and from a fan's perspective, quite a person in general.

Dal/NO moved to Prime Time

It was debated earlier in another post whether or not the Dal/NO game would be moved to prime time with some saying it would and some saying it wouldn't.   Well, it is official per the star telegram that it indeed has been moved.  The networks can not get enough of Romo and the Cowboys.  If the Cowboys beat the Giants this weekend and NO wins (I believe they play SF) then that sets up NBC for a terrific Sunday night game for two teams battling for a bye.  But lets get by the Giants first before we start talking byes.

Something Special in DC?

Ramon Ortiz carrying a no hitter into the 9th inning.  He led off the bottom of the 8th and cranked one out.  Paciorek and Carpenter are going crazy in the booth.

For All Cowboy Fans...

I know that most Ranger fans are Cowboy fans as well (Ed would be one exception that comes to mind), so just thought I'd get the word out in case you haven't heard yet.

This Sunday, The NFL Network will have "Dallas Cowboys Day" airing 13 hours of exclusive Cowboys beginning at 1 p.m.

Get your TiVo's Ready.

This last week has me yearning for the end of July and the reporting of players to camp.

Danks' AAA debut

After a somewhat shaky first inning with two walks, Danks has really settled down nicely.  He has allowed only one hit through 5 innings, and has 4 strikeouts.  The 4th and 5th innings were both 3 up and 3 down.

On somewhat of the same note, I was thinking after Diamond's game (last night I believe) if he wasn't trying to overdue things with Danks getting promoted.  Maybe that got in his head a little bit?

Mark Cuban on Letterman

Just made a complete fool of himself as far as I'm concerned.

What an embarrasing figurehead for this team.

About Steve Nash he said: "Why couldn't he play like an MVP for us? But oh well, we got Terry and Steve is sitting at home".

No class at all.

Thanks to LSB and AJM

Been out of country since last November, and just wanted to say thanks a bunch to Adam for all his work (even though it may not seem like work for him).  I was never able to get access to a computer long enough to read through the newspaper websites which was never a problem since I could get all the headlines just by logging on to this website.  I was able to stay right on top of all the Ranger news thanks to your blog.  Don't always agree with you, but that's beside the point.

Also, love the farm probables Shroom.  Makes keeping up with our future that much easier as well.

Thanks again, and glad to be back to follow this promising Ranger season.
