Big Blue View Giants Tendencies Week Six

Against the Bills, the Giants offence broke down as:

               Run                 Pass

00              0                      0

01              0                      0

10              0                      4

11              9                     11

12              3                      3

13              0                      0

20              0                      0

21              11                    13

22              5                      3

23              4                      0

A great reason for the Giants being able to get the W last week was their ability to run the football. The benefit of the strong running game was that they were able to keep their plays very balanced, they had 32 run plays (16 in both halves) and 36 passing plays (21 first half, 15 second half). Not only that, they also kept their favourite personnel packages (11 and 12) balanced which they were unable to do in weeks four or five. I also like the fact that they used the heavy sets (21, 22 and 32) more in this game, which seemed to help Bradshaw get some yards.

Big Blue View Giants Tendencies Week Five

Sorry this is a bit late fellas, but I'm back at school now so I don't have the amount of free time I did last week. I didn't have time this week to watch the Eagles-Bills game, so this will only have tendencies from New York. Last week against the Seahawks the Giants had the following break down:

               Run                 Pass

00              0                      0

01              0                      1

10              0                      5

11              4                     31

12              3                      1

13              0                      0

20              0                      0

21              15                    9

22              3                      1

32              0                      0

Big Blue View Giants Tendencies

Just thought I would share the research I have done on the playcalling of the Giants on offence in week four. Against the Cardinals the Giants called twice as many pass plays as run plays, most in the 11 formation ( One RB, One TE). Giants used mainly 11 and 21 formations calling the vast majority of both pass and run plays from those formations. Heres how the play calls broke down:

               Pass                Run

00              1                      0

01              2                      0

10              3                      1

11              21                    6

12              1                      1

13              0                      1

20              2                      0

21              10                   10

22              2                      3

32              1                      1

Overall there were 43 (21 first half, 22 second half) pass plays called and 23 (12 first half, 11 second half) run plays. Eli also seems to favour throwing to his right and run plays go much more frequently between the tackles than off tackle.

Big Blue View Steve Smith: Good or Great?

Many questions were being asked of our wide receiver group in the offseason. Most people (but not Ed!) were sceptical about their ability to make plays for the offence. In fact this year it was about all that worked. But one player stood out as our No 1 reciever; Steve Smith. What I'm wondering though is whether or not Steve Smith is a good reciever like so many in the NFL, or a great one, an Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. Im not talking about historically great, I havent been watching the NFL for long enough to make a comparison to Hall of Famers.

Big Blue View Should we be resting Bradshaw?

For the first part of the season Ahmad Bradshaw was blowing up defences and Jacobs was starting slow, but now Jacobs has improved and Bradshaw's production is dropping. It seems that Bradshaw's injured foot/ankle is hindering his performance and he might need a rest for a while. At the very least we should start to limit his carries a bit. Jacobs is playing well and is getting fewer carries, which I think we can all agree needs to change. My question for you guys though is: Should we be resting Bradshaw when his productivity isn't at the level we had come to expect?

Poll
How should we handle Bradshaw's injury?
Take him out for a while and hope he heals quick

Keep going the way we are now, the running game is not a problem

Give Jacobs more carries but still have Bradshaw playing snaps

Big Blue View Fear Not Big Blue Community!

We may have lost four in a row, we may not be the dominant team that it appeared we would be in the preseason, but we are still 5 and 4. We did get five wins and I seriously doubt that Coughlin will be unable to turn things around in New York.

Big Blue View NFL Punishment Doesn't Work

Punishment in a game like the NFL where players are making more money than most can even use, does not work. It works on the rare occasions where a player is suspended for something, but these are almost always too lenient. When Flozell Adams tripped Justin Tuck I was rightly outraged that he could get away with injuring one of the best players on our Defence and be punished with nothing worse than a slap on the wrist.

Hines Ward has decided that he will use an illegal block because he believes it works better than going low, he justifies this by saying he can "take the fine". I'm not saying that Hines Ward is a bad guy or that he is a dirty player, but it is obvious that the punishment is not working. Fines are handed out as a deterrant, not so you can buy a foul. Punishments should be much harder on players deliberately commiting fouls. For Ward, explain to him that if he blocks illegally, he will be suspended for 2 games, for Flozell Adams he can choose: A suspension or he gets taken out behind the stadium by Giants fans with baseball bats. Dirty players need to be dealt with harshly so players don't get injured merely because one player can afford to commit fouls.

How should players commiting personal fouls(facemask, tripping, etc.) be dealt with?
Suspension

Jeff Feagles in the Hall of Fame

There is a debate over on Big Blue View as to whether Jeff Feagles should make the HOF. 86%(at time of posting) believe he should. I want to know whether non-giants fans agree with this. Post your vote here or vote over at BBV.
