Yahoo! Sports Story on the Mendoza No-No
It appears that the no-no has been taken away, again. It's funny that official scoring can be replayed but calls on the field can't.
When I was watching the National Championship tonight I thought two things:
1. I hope UConn doesn't score 50.
2. I hope everyone around the country is thinking, wouldn't this be better if Ohio St. and Kansas were playing?
Rays have 11 of the first 89 picks in the 2011 Draft
It will be very intriguing to watch how the Rays play this. It would be nice to see the Royals eventually have a draft like the Rays upcoming one, especially since most of those picks came over due to losing Relief Pitchers. (Losing Crawford Helped)
Just a quick question. Fred Lewis and Travis Buck have been non-tendered. Do you guys think the Royals should have any interested in either guy? I know Buck has bombed in the Majors but is there any hope for the guy? Lewis isn't anything special but he looks useful.
OH NO! Seasons over now I guess.
I didn't see this coming. This article is disgraceful, it doesn't even mention the Royals run at the division. I guess we have to just start dreaming about next year now.
"Congrats to Josh McDaniels for turning three No. 1 picks in 2009 and 2010 into a third-string tight end, backup QB and fourth-string receiver" - Bill Simmons in his weekly picks column
Image from a poll on ESPN.com on whether the Big 10 should change it's name. I think the Big 10 and it's fans are in denial.
Pujols accepts award at Glenn Beck rally.
If this is too political, that's fine and it can get shut down. I just thought it was at least news worthy that there was a baseball connection to what was clearly the biggest news event of the weekend.
Strasburg is going to have Tommy John Surgery
I don't view this as good news. I hope that this will impact baseball positively by shifting some of the negotiating strength back to the Teams when working out contracts with Top-5 talent. I wish Stephen a fast recovery.
Eric Berry Goes the Extra Mile for Young Fans
[Editor's Note: Great story and thanks for sharing it. - Joel]
First and foremost, I'd like to start off this post by saying just how awesome it is to have a young man like Eric Berry on the 2010 Kansas City Chiefs.
Before heading up to Saint Joe today to watch the evening practice session, I had heard good things about Mr. Berry, you know normal stuff, he's a character guy, he always stops and gives kids autographs, etc.
But even all these good and positive statements could not prepare me for the awesome human that Eric Berry proved himself to be tonight.
After a two hour practice in 100+ heat, Berry made a B line straight for the autograph seeker section and silently started signing memorabilia on a day where the heat made it miserable enough that only one other Chief stopped to sign (Brandon Albert).
However Mr. Berry's commitment to the fans outlasted Albert's and long after he had gone inside, Berry was still out there signing.
Now, I have never been much for autographs; however, I had my two grade school aged nephews with me and, like all kids, autographs are king in their eyes.
So, when they approached Mr. Berry and he readily autographed both their football and their hat, it was not so much of a surprise as it was greatly appreciated; but what Mr. Berry did on this night went a step further than I believe anybody could ask or expect out of a pro player. A camp staff member had previously given my nephews a heads up that players sometimes give away their gloves after practice and told my nephews that they should ask Berry for his. When they asked Berry for his gloves he told them that he unfortunately had already given away his gloves today. Now keep in mind he had already signed a ball and a hat for these young men.
Who could ever expect or ask any more of a player?
But what happened next floored me. Since Mr. Berry didn't have any gloves, he took off his shoes, signed them, and handed them to my nephew's.
It was an awesome to see a guy who takes his role and image in the eyes of fans quite seriously, especially in a day and age of prima donna players. Now I can't say for sure that Eric Berry will give you the shirt off his back, but he sure as hell will give you the shoes off his feet...
God bless you Mr. Berry. The NFL and the Chiefs are lucky and better off to have such a kind man as the face of their product.

Strasburg to DL
How are those predictions of him being baseballs next 300 game winner looking now? I know, I know. I'm overstating this. It is my understanding that in Baseball history, there have been a number of hard throwing players to come in, have mind-blowing flash-in-pan seasons, and then have their careers end early due to shoulder injury. Hopefully, that isn't the case here.
Meche to 60-Day DL; Barrera added to 40-man roster.
I guess that means the season is over for Meche.
You Think Losing Reesing is Hard
There are some big-time college quarterbacks that went pro this last year. While we are sitting back and wondering who will start at Quarterback for the Jayhawks next season, other schools have to think about the same thing. Two of those schools have some mighty big shoes to fill. Reesing owns every Kansas passing record and is in the discussion for best QB in KU history. (see: Owens Post) However, Kansas was not the only program to lose a historic QB. Texas lost Colt McCoy, the QB with the most wins in college football history and over in Florida they might have the toughest shoes to fill since Alexander the Great died. (I was going to write since Muhammad died but then I remembered that he, like Jesus, ascended to heaven) So, I submit it to you.

Notre Dame to Big 12? This sounds improbable but maybe worth tossing around.
The Journal World has a story saying that Jerry Jones wants to bring in both Arkansas and Notre Dame into the Big 12.
Colorado moving to Pac 10
This is very interesting. There have been a number of rumors about the Big 12 South teams leaving minus Baylor plus Colorado. However, in the last couple of days it appeared that Texas was pressuring the Pac 10 to take Baylor instead of Colorado. It would appear that Colorado and the Pac 10 have done an end-around Texas. How will Texas take this news?
The State of Kansas needs to change how it does it's collegiate athletics.
Some might call this a desperation column. I think I am looking at reality. The reality is that all of the realignment talk reveals that the State of Kansas should not have two universities attempting to compete in BCS athletics. The state isn't big enough. The only way Kasnas can keep itself relevant in money driven college athletics is to change the way it's college compete. I think you can see where I am going with this.
An interesting comparison of Game Score and Multi-homerun games.
In short, Banny had a Game Score of 57. Guillen hit two home runs. The Royals have won 63% of the games a pitchers has a game score of 57 but 73% of the games a player hits two home runs.
Peter Gammons on Moore
Maybe the most interesting part of the article is where he writes about scouts not wanting to leave the Twins.

Moore Hillman and Christianity
I was going to post this in the postgame comments but I kept writing and figured I would just put it up as a fanpost. I'm probably being overly sensitive but I'll say my piece, take the flack, and move on. So here it goes . . .
Big 12 and Pac-10 in talks?
I guess if Nebraska and Missouri leave, the Big 12 to drop Iowa State and look west. The two conferences have cooperated in the past. It will be interesting to see how this goes. It makes since for Cali and Texas to team up. Also, Pac-10 teams could get out of the shadows a bit by playing some games in the Central Time Zone that would increase exposure.
Calipari the New Bob Stoops
It seems like Stoops always drops his name when a coaching job opens up so that he can blackmail OU into a new extension. I wonder if Calipari will start doing the same thing with UK.
Thoughts on fixing the Tournament
This is my first time doing a Fanpost so please be gentle.
I don't know what everyone's opinion is but expanding the tournament out to 96 teams seems like a horrible idea to me. It seems like the final death-nail for the regular season because so many teams will be in the post-season. I remember complaints back in the Roy years that the NCAA Tournament overshadowed everything else that happened in the season. KU would put up great season after great season but have no tournament success. Not much has changed.
I am of the opinion that the NCAA Tournament is the most exciting way to crown a championship but not the best. After the break I'll share some of my ideas on how to do it better.
