A pretty balanced read about the challenges of bringing Mourinho back to the Bridge.

What about Thiago as a deep playmaker? I'm not sure how good he is defensively but his passing and vision is brilliant; he is young and will have really good resale value. I understand he plays higher up the park but with Barcelona's 'total football' approach surely he can be played deeper. I just think he could really add some depth and value to our midfield.

As this is my first fan post here, and seeing other introduction threads are closed, I felt it only right that I introduce myself. My name is Clinton, Clint is fine, and I was born in what was then Rhodesia but grew up in South Africa. I have supported Chelsea for as long as I can remember. In fact, Vinnie Jones was a player at the Bridge around that time so I guess that makes me one of the older crowd here (30+). I happened upon this blog by chance and have found somewhat of a home what with the erudite analysis and varied opinions offered.

Introductions aside, the season is now at a close and we have just one match left. A little matter of beating the Germans, in Germany. I realise this is no mean feat but like many here I have faith in our boys. After that game the real fun begins with the rumour mill flying into action. Already there is speculation of which players might be gracing our team and there has been opinions offered regarding the merits of each. However, I have yet to see a post regarding the potential managers that have been linked here.

When RDM was first made interim manager I was somewhat disappointed and lacked any of faith in that decision. I was glad to be proven wrong. His tactics have generally been spot on and he has managed to engineer results in games where we were pretty much written off. He has chosen to sacrifice the league for cup glory and although I don't agree with his decision I do understand it.

The question is, should we win at the weekend do we give him a shot at next season? I personally think that tactically he is good but my concern is whether or not he can bring about the rejuvenation/change that is so badly needed at the club. Can he either seemlessly get rid of the old guard and bring in the new or find a way of blending the two? I think the latter is the better choice because our owner and fans expect us to challenge immediately. Patience is not our strong point.

Also, can he bring about a good development programme that sees us growing talent and not having to always look to buy? Time will tell if he can do either but I'm not sure he will get the chance. He has shown he can manage a ready formed team but can he build one?

Now, assuming he doesn't get the chance, who are the best candidates? I have heard Laurent, 'Arry, Guardiola, Bielsa, Capello and Mourinho all rumoured to be coming in and I am curious to know who the popular choice is and why. I agree some of these are never going to happen but that aside, I'd still like to hear arguments for and against.

Thanks
