NBA All-Star Weekend: Rising Stars Challenge Roster
Linked is the roster for the All-Star Weekend: Rising Stars Challenge (previously known as the Rookie-Sophmore game). The link details the new system that will be in play as well as the roster (nine 2nd year players and nine rookies).
Source: Kyrylo Fesenko has signed with the Warriors
According to Si's Sam Amick, Kyrylo Fesenko, 7-1 280lb center, has signed with the Warriors.
There are still a few centers still out there that can be acquired via the Clippers' Eric Gordon trade exception. It seems like the Clippers want to maintain some flexibility with their 13 man roster as the season goes on. In addition to the trade exception, the Clippers still have their room exception to possibly sign one of the free agents from China in March if they hold onto it for that long.
DeAndre Jordan joins Under Armour
Linked is an article from Yahoo! giving the Under Armour press release on the DeAndre Jordan signing.
Also, here was an interesting tidbit I found on Twitter:
"Under Armour has signed its 1st center to wear its basketball shoes: The Clippers' DeAndre Jordan."

Details of the NBA's CBA Proposal - Video Presentation.
This was uploaded on the NBA's Youtube channel on November 13th with slides dated November 10th.
Today, the NBA also had what they called "The Twitterview". During this 1 hour event, David Stern and Adam Silver answered people's questions regarding the NBA's CBA proposal via the NBA's Twitter account. On Twitter, you can take a look at @NBA to see the questions and answers.
This Web 2.0 media blitz comes just a day before the player reps and union executives of the NBA Players Association are to meet to analyze the League's offer and come up with a response to it.
ESPN 5-5 Analysis on Eric Gordon and Ranks 36-40
This week in ESPN.com's NBA player ranking series, they got to Eric Gordon at number 39. In the linked article, 5 selected writers analyzed how well the players from 36-40 are ranked.
It seems like the consensus from the 5 analysts is that Gordon is on the rise and is already a good scorer and defender, but the other parts of his game (like rebounding and assisting) are lacking.
You can check out the link for the specific analysis from each of the 5 writers.
"Amaan: (New Jersey)
Last year, the Thunder in my opinion were lacking that veteran leadership with you in the picture for a whole season, this team is at a whole new level. The Thunder are the most dangerous team in the NBA. Who do you think will challenge you the most?
Kendrick Perkins: (5:08 PM)
You always have to be careful of the young and upcoming teams. The Portland Trail Blazers. You also have to keep a close eye on the Clippers. Griffin, Gordon, Jordan. If I would have to pick any teams that people have to keep a close eye on, it's them. You can't take anything away from Dallas. They're the champions."
-I found this on the ESPN NBA chat with Kendrick Perkins. It would be interesting to see how far the Blazers can go with a healthy roster. The same can be said for the Clippers with their injury history these past few years.
-While these teams have many similarities, the one big difference that stands out between the two is the win total. How soon can the Clippers convert that "potential energy" into "win energy"?
Potential Clippers 2011-2012 Schedule
An easier start than 2010-2011? Finishing playing the Celtics much earlier next season? What do you think of this potential schedule?
Notables:
-20 National TV Games (7 NBA TV, 8 ESPN, 5 TNT) which is a franchise record (via Clippers Schedule release)
-3 Home Games to start the season
-Longest road trip is 8 games
-22 back-to-backs
"Los Angeles faces every team in the Western Conference a total of four times (two home and two away), with the exception of the Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves who they will play three times each."

Disclaimer: An extended NBA lockout would require the NBA to make a new schedule.
2011 NBA Draft Lottery Today @ 5:30 PM (PT) on ESPN
The 2011 NBA Draft Lottery takes place today, May 17th, at 5:30 PM (pacific time) on ESPN and ESPN3.com. While the Clippers do not have a pick in the Draft Lottery this year, there are a few elements of it that may impact the future of the Clippers.
1) Buyer's Remorse: Many Clippers fans are interested in if the first round pick the Clippers gave up to get Mo Williams near the trade deadline will stay as the projected 8th pick or become a top 3 pick.
2) Trade Partners: These lottery picks could also be traded for by the Clippers, and this lottery will decide the Clippers potential trade partners.
3) The 2012 Pick: This lottery could very well influence the worth of the Clippers 2012 first round pick acquired from the Timberwolves. The worse Minnesota's pick is this year, the bigger an asset the Clippers acquired pick may be this Summer or next year.
4) East VS West: This year there are 12 teams choosing the 14 lottery picks. Out of the projected top 7 picks, 4 are from the East ad 3 are from the West. Additionally, 3 of the top 4 projected picks are in the East. The more talent that goes to the East, the better chance the Clippers won't be competing as often against the likes of Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams in the near future.
You can find more information on the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery on the NBA website.
T-Mobile NBA 2011 All-Rookie Team Rosters
All the Clippers first round rookies received votes. Check to see where they placed on the rosters.
At Clips Nation, we talked a lot about how Eric Gordon received little attention for his productivity in his rookie season. Do you see other rookies this season in a similar senario?
Edit: First round rookies as opposed to just rookies.
ESPN LA's Eric Gordon Recap
I liked how this piece on LA Clippers guard Eric Gordon framed the past, present, and future for Gordon. The piece also showcased Gordon's surges in late game situations as well as highlighting key weaknesses.
Here are two additional topics Clippers fans may debate about in the near future: Gordon with Team USA and the idea of Gordon possibly becoming a lead playmaker for the Clippers.
Marqus Blakely Signed by the Houston Rockets
Remember Marqus Blakely? Blakely looked to have a good chance of getting a spot on the Clippers roster during the Summer. While Blakely seemed to play inspiring basketball during the Summer League, the Clippers appeared to not have enough space on their roster to keep him on the squad.
The one question I have about the article is: what are the implications of a 3 year non-guaranteed contract? Is this typical for non-drafted NBA players?
Here is a post from Ridiculous Upside on the signing and a few more details on Blakely's efforts in the D-League this year .
Griffin and Durant: The Free Throw Battle
Free Throw Averages VS Today's Game
While both stars are usually shooting foul magnets, Griffin was 12-18 at the line while Durant was only 3-3 in today's April game (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill via ESPN's game recap: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/photos?gameId=310402012&photoId=1238368)
Durant is averaging 8.6 free throw attempts per game (makes 7.6 of those).
Griffin is averaging 8.5 free throw attempts per game (makes 5.5 of those).
Today:
Griffin: 12-18 Free throw
Durant: 3-3 Free throw attempts
Durant has his 3rd lowest free throw attempts a game against the Clippers (5.0). The only ones fewer are against the Rockets (4.8) and the Nets(4.0).
Griffin averages his highest free throw attempts a game against the Thunder (13.5).

There are some other interesting aspects of the game that are mostly related to the paint game:
Eric Gordon Honored at LA Sports Awards
The FIBA tournament feels like it happened a year or so ago, but Gordon successfully making that team and winning the gold was a possible sign of something special for the Clippers this year. I still remember using those FIBA games to quench a thirst for basketball, and also watching as all the young team USA players pushed their way onto the international scene.
Looking at all the really special people honored at the LA Sports Awards, it is nice to see Gordon represent himself and the Clippers in a great way for the city.
ESPN Source: Clippers buy out Rasual Butler
If this source is true, It is too bad it could not work out better for Butler on the Clippers this year. It is also interesting that Butler wasn't traded to the Bulls before the trade deadline.
Still, I will always remember things like Butler's big three against the Celtics last year and some of the games where he just couldn't miss. Thank you for your contributions to the LA Clippers Rasual Butler.
Video: Si's Lee Jenkin's Discusses the Clippers Trade
This video left me with 2 thoughts:
Thought 1:
Inevitable: A powerful and well known word, yet it still can come as a surprise.
--
Thought 2:
While the Travis Outlaw/Steve Blake symmetry can easily be connected with this deal, I think the LeBron/Williams connection is also interesting.
As one of the "elders" on this Clippers team, will Williams have a significant impact on Griffin's development (personality and basketball-wise)? Having gone through the whole LeBron debacle, how does Williams approach Griffin? Will Griffin power up Williams like LeBron did? Is Williams a harbinger for a fate Clippers fans don't want to think about? (I think I am getting carried away with these questions...)
"One" more string of questions though:
A major point of contention in the Summer was how Davis would play with Gordon. How will Gordon play with Williams? Who will be the playmaker? What about Bledsoe?
I guess tuning in to the Clippers game on Friday will be a start to answering these questions.
Video Evidence of Kaman's Return Nearing
The linked URL is actually an interview with Gordon talking about preparations before the Miami Heat game, but I was distracted the whole video trying to identify and later confirm to myself that Kaman was practicing in the video.
While the practice footage may not appear too interesting for Kaman, it is still nice to be able to see Kaman again (without a visible ankle brace too).

Magnets affect Clippers
One type of player I have seen give a lot of trouble to the Clippers is the category: big men with range. These guys either get a lot of open looks or pull the Clippers' shot blockers away from the paint.
Many Clippers fans already have a list of these players in their head: Al Jefferson, Mehmet Okur, Josh Smith, Al Harrington, LaMarcus Aldridge, and many more.
The Heat team they are about to go toe-to-toe with features 2 of these "magnets" in their starting lineup: Chris Bosh and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
In addition to pulling away shot blockers, the Heat have some of the best finisher in the NBA in James and Wade. As many have mentioned, it will be crucial that the Clippers bigs stay away from foul trouble (via failed block attempts) if the Clippers are to have a chance to beat the Heat.
At the moment, the Heat have the least shots blocked against them. Opponents only block 2.7 of the Heat's shots a game. The 2nd best team in that category is a distant margin away at 3.6 (Dirk Nowitzki's Dallas Mavericks).
The Clippers are only 15th in the league in the shots they block (4.9 a game). Still, over the last 4 games Jordan has averaged 5.5 blocks a game which would tie him with Miami for 9th place in team's shot blocks per game.*
If there were ever a test for DeAndre Jordan's shot challenging ability, this game woud be his MCAT.

This is a nice short video previewing Eric Gordon. Maybe this is just a teaser for another more in depth look. I am not too familiar with the "Coming Attractions" series though.
The Unlucky 7: The Clippers most Painful Losses (thus far)
The Clippers have lost 7 games by 7 points or less:
7 Painful Losses (in chronological order):
Denver 9 missed FT, 10TOs -> 7 point loss
Jazz- 4 missed FT, 22 TOs -> 2 point OT loss
Pistons - 9 missed FT, 21 TOs -> 6 point OT loss
Wolves- 6 missed FT, 16 TOs-> 2 point loss
Denver - 9 missed FT, 16 TOs-> 5 point loss
Lakers- 6 missed FT, 19 TOs-> 1 point loss
Grizzlies- 2 missed FT, 26 TOs-> 1 point loss
Here is a cool chart:
7 of the Clippers closest losses (via clippertheorist)
This chart has the games from left to right in chronological order. Each peak and valley on the chart is a game played (there were two games played for the last horizontal line.) It is interesting how correlated FTs missed and points lost by are. What is scary is that upward spike in TOs (yet it is not as correlated to the ending points margin as I thought it would be). Still, this is a small sample size.
Some of the games that they lost by more than that were really close at some point near the end of the game, but free throws and TOs ballooned the lead.
While this trend of having many close losses may be the case with other teams with bad records, at least the Clippers are getting better and keeping games closer. Hopefully there will not be huge double digit losses on the Clippers' home court again. Hopefully the first road win is coming soon too.
Dominique Wilkins talking about Blake Griffin
Check out the first 3 minutes of the video in the beginning of this NBA.com dunk ladder post. Most of the description of Griffin is between minutes 1-3.
Guess who is on the All-Star Ballot?
Here are the Clippers on the All-Star Ballot:
-Baron Davis
-Eric Gordon
-Blake Griffin
-Chris Kaman
Another interesting thing to observe is who has been left off the ballot from other teams (like Paul Millsap and Jason Terry). Still, it is the LA All-Star Game, so LA is bound to have many of its teams' players on the ballot (LAC has 4 and LAL has 6 on the ballot).
Only 66 days left to vote.
According to Hollinger at ESPN: The Clippers are better than their record indicates
Linked are the Hollinger Power Rankings.
The Clippers are 7th in strength of schedule (the difficulty of their opposition) which bumps up their rating. Also, the Clippers margin of defeat is not too bad. They have not been blown out much.
Another interesting note is that the Clippers are ranked better than some 0.500 teams (check out which teams). Still, the sample size is small so we need to wait till at least 21 games have been played or so to get a better feel of the team as it continues to develop.
Clippers Offense: Putting the Colors on the Canvas
Putting the colors on the canvas:
Game 1:
88 points, 40.5% shooting, 19 of 32 (59.38%) made baskets assisted, 15 TO's., 19-30 (63.33%) Free Throw Shooting
Game 2:
91 points, 38.6% shooting, 17 of 32 (53.13%) made baskets assisted, 16 TO's, 22-32 (68.75%) Free Throw Shooting
Game 3:
83 points, 34.1% shooting, 17 of 28 (60.71%) made baskets assisted, 16 TO's, 23-31 (74.19%) Free Throw Shooting
Game 4:
88 points, 46.3% shooting, 26 of 38 (68.42%) made baskets assisted, 17 TO's, 8-16 (50.00%) Free Throw Shooting
Help me paint the picture.
Clippers "Easter Egg" on LA Times?
If you check out the sports section online, in the link provided, there is a red and blue basketball, near the top of the page, piercing through the virtual newspaper (making it bleed ink).
Whether or not this is a Clippers reference, hopefully the team can start the season with force and make ink "bleed" from all around the World Wide Web.
Edit: The red and blue basketball seems to be on about every page of the LA Times website. One would think that the ball should correspond to game one of the World Series, but the Clippers were the first thought I had when I saw the red and blue.
A Clippers game is in the top 5 most expensive game tickets
There are some interesting statistics on that page too. Maybe one disclaimer is that this is average ticket price, so there isn't really information on which seats get the biggest increases in price.
If the Clippers become really competitive, will their ticket prices approach Lakers ticket prices?
Clippers may have one of the best new Pick-and-Roll combos in NBA
We have already seen glimpses of this in the preseason. Hopefully it can become a major part of the Clippers offense. Check out the link from Si.com for more info on where the new Clippers pick-and-roll combo ranks with some of the other new combos.
