Not sure if anyone heard about Giants former shortstop Jose Uribe dying in a car crash recently. I was just scanning the article and came across this little tidbit:

"Uribe's death prompted an outpouring of grief in his hometown, where Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero led thousands of mourners through the streets."

The Lions lose three straight to the Niners, Cards, and Dolphins. These teams could easily be considered in the bottom tier of the NFL (although the Niners and Dolphins are playing better). The Lions have officially hit worse case scenario..again. Where do we go from here? Do we draft Brady Quinn or do we bolster the defense? I am not sure if the coaches are even the problem. We have plugged in so many coaches over the years that it seems like this whole franchise is a lost cause. This team is such a mystery right now it boggles my mind. Hopefully someone can figure it out.

Shaun Rogers has been suspended 4 games for breaking the steroid policy. Big whole up the middle now as Shaun is obviously a integral part of the D-line.

Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2630061

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

This team peaked in July; The bullpen has hit worse case scenario and the offense is shakier then ever. If things don't work out and we miss the playoffs we can atleast look forward to a bright future and view this as a transition year.

Choakland will get knocked out of the first round because, let's not kid ourselves, a 1-2 of Haren/Zito is not going to cut it. Loaiza? Blanton? I would be shaking in my boots when that third start comes around. Good luck Choakies and I am anxious for when you resign Frank Thomas, the mirage, and revel in preseason Bobby Crobsy MVP predictions.

Not sure if anyone reads this site much, but I read it everyday. I have tried getting information from Lions message boards and such but no luck as they are all mismanaged (guess that kind of goes with Detroit football over the last 10 years). Anyway, I enjoy this site and appreciate the daily columns!

-Ken

Adenhart

Well, it looks like Nick Adenhart was ineffective in his second straight game for the USA squad. There has been some buzz over at 'Minorleagueball' that Adenhart may be an overrated prospect so I decided to take a look at a few of his splits.

Cedar Rapids:

106IP
10-2
1.95 ERA
8.33 K/9
2.19 W/9

Rancho:

52.1IP
5-2
3.78 ERA
7.97 K/9
2.75 W/9

His jump in ERA I am not too concerned with, but a decreasing K/9 rate may be something to consider and to be looked at closely as he climbs the ranks. He is still adjusting to High A and just turned 20 years old so I expect the Angels to take their sweet time with him. All in all, there still is a lot to be excited about.

USA Baseball story:
Jered Weaver, ROY?

With Jered Weaver reaching the 9-0 mark with some 40 games to go he is now in great position to receive the Rookie of the year award. Liriano is out for awhile and Verlander has strugged in his last two starts while complaining of fatigue (see Joe Saunders). That pitching trio seems like the front-runners for the award. Was Tim Salmon our last ROY?
