This will be fun...
I know, I know, after this big win this isn't what everyone wants to talk about....
BUT....Peter King had an interesting tidbit in his MMQB:
e. Interesting tidbit from respected St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz: "I would not be surprised, at all, to see the Rams make a play for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick after the season.'' I agree.
f. Also would not be surprised to see the Rams make a very quiet inquiry about Donovan McNabb after the season either. Not saying the Eagles would make such a deal (two second-rounders and a four for McNabb?), but Kevin Kolb will be a fourth-year player, and Philly's not going to be able to keep him until McNabb retires.
I brought up the possibility of trading McNabb after some of his lesser performances, but even after the great one last night, I still would consider trading McNabb for 2 2nds and a 4th, that is how good I feel about Kolb. At some point the McNabb era is going to come to an end...you have a guy behind him who looks like a winner, are you really going to give up on the 4 years of development he has had for a couple more years hoping McNabb can win a championship? I feel that if he doesn't do it this year, it is time. We could REALLY use those picks to rebuild our defense...we need saftey help (Sean Jones tackling will not cut it), D line help, LB help (more depth assuing STU is healthy), CB help (who doesn't?) and O-line help (unless we still have faith in the Andrews)....that is a long list of help. The Vick comment is also exciting, because if Vick turns into a 3rd round draft choice or higher, I will be ecstatic.

What does that punch at the end of the game mean?
Anyone have and idea what the typical punishment for throwing a punch Trent Cole did is? Will he miss next week too? It didn't look like the worst thing in the world to me, I mean Ohara definitely hit him in the face first.
It would suck to see a suspension of Cole for more than the 8 last seconds of this game. Our defense is scaring me because it seems a little porous as it is.

Halladay/ Blanton Rumors
MLB Trade Rumors (I know not the most reliable site) has discussed that multiple sources indicate that Joe Blanton is on the trading block, most likely involved in 3 way deal to bring Halladay to Philly. At first I was a little confused by this entire thing, but I am actually starting to think it makes sense, assuming Blanton yeilds and important piece to the Halladay trade.
Blanton will likely make 7.5 mil or more in Arb this year, which also happens to be his last year in arbitration. That right there is already half of Halladay's salary, and Blanton will most likely not yeild a draft pick if he signed with another team in 2011(I am not even sur we would offer arbitration if he would yeild a draft pick). Trading for Halladay will guarantee us 2 first round draft picks, which makes the sting of giving up prospects for 1 year of Halladay a little easier to take.
While I would not like seeing Drabek/Taylor/Brown in a trade...do you think think that Blanton could yeild a prospect high enough to make the deal without giving up Drabek/Taylor/Brown? Would you even make the deal if you had to give up Brown (probably the most likely to be traded of those 3)?

What to do with Mcnabb
Yes, I know that I am going to get hammered and ridiculed for even starting a thread named "What to do with Mcnabb". I am going to get called a fair weather fan, a front runner and everything else.
The thing is, I am remembering several years of Mcnabb football when I say this: He is the most inconsistent player I have ever seen. One week he is threading the ball inbetween defenders where he had no business even throwing it in the first place looking as if he is the best QB in the leauge. The next week he is throwing the ball into the ground and behind wide open wide recievers.
We have blamed the receivers not getting open for so long, but now Mcnabb finally had 4 legit weapons in his arsenal: Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and Avant. They were open at times last night. You can blame it on the O-line not giving him time, but I consistantly saw Mcnabb able to step up in the pocket and get at least 5-6 seconds to throw the ball.
Since the Eagles have been under Andy Reid and Mcnabb, this is the one thing I have noticed: They either win comfortably, or they lose. There is no middle ground, I can't remember ever being a team that was able to win with 2 minutes left in the game, or win a low scoring defensive battle.
On Donavon's best day, and Kolbs best day, there is no question in my mind that Donavon is the better QB. The thing that Kolb has, the Mcnabb doesn't is consistancy. He makes those short dump off passes to players like Celek and McCoy that Donavon always seems to throw into the ground or so hard that the guy can't catch it. Kolb has touch, even if he doesn't have the arm strength. When Kolb throws the ball to a player, the player is usually able to run after the catch. Donavon normally throws it so hard, or low that the player makes the catch for a short gain, but is in no position to get yards after the catch. Think about how much more effective Celek was under Kolb than he has been under Mcnabb...
I don't think the Eagles are ever going to be a GREAT team unless Mcnabb plays like he can play every Sunday, not 1/3 or even 1/2 Sundays.
Does anyone else agree with me? Is it time for Andy to stop being sentimental and move on with the younger, more consistent QB?

Ruben "Indicates" Six Man Rotation?
NOTES: Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said J.A. Happ isn't going to the bullpen to make room for Pedro Martinez . Amaro also indicated the team could employ a six-man rotation when Martinez comes off the DL.
Does anyone think this is permenate or is it more likely the first starter to get shaky will be sent to the Pen or DL (Moyer? Happ? Martinez?)
Here is the link, the comments are in the note at the bottom.

Bad News for Mark Herzlich
Don't know how many of you have heard of this guy, but he played HS football at Sotga high (I played against him when he was a sophmore). He now is the star linebacker for BC, and if he hadn't returned for his senior year was projected as a first-second round pick.
I can't find it on the internet yet, but he was diagnosed with bone cancer last week in his femor. Its a really scary type of Cancer, and I think it might end his football career. Please join me in wishing a full recovery for the local football star.

Lurie Named 4th best Owner by SI

I know that a majority of this site really likes the Eagles FO, but I think its always a good reminder to those that don't how good we really have it. You can point to alot of things that have brought the Eagles success over the last 10 years, but I think it all has to come back to the Owner.
Interesting note that the Giants family of owners is right ahead of Lurie. I personally would vote for Lurie before the Mara &Tisch family because he was able to turn a franchise around so quickly, but it certainly is a topic for debate.

"There are a lot of things you can do with him," Reid said. "He ran a ton of reverses and all of the little gadget plays that go with it. I would say he should be able to work in and get time in there." Maclin will likely return kickoffs, but DeSean Jackson could stay on punts.

Eagles draft game
Ok, we played this last year and I thought it was pretty fun.
Assuming no more deals are made before the draft, the Eagles have 10 picks in this weekends draft:
1 first
1 2nd
13rd
4 5ths
2 6ths
1 7th
The goal of the game is to guess who the Eagles are going to draft. Because the Eagles have 10 picks, you can guess up to 10 players. You can make your 10 picks in any round...if you think the Eagles are going to trade back into the 2nd, you can pick 2 players in the 2nd round.
For scoring you get 1 point for picking the correct player, 1 additional point if you pick that player in the right round, and 1 additional point if the pick was in day 2.
Please email your 10 picks to BGNdraftgame@gmail.com in the following format:
title of email is your BGN username
(Player) -(round)
(Player)-(round)
Ect.
I will announce the winner in a fanpost after the draft. All entries must be in by 4 o clock tomorrow.

Gonzo traded to Falcons
From Roto World:
Falcons acquired TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
There had been reports the Eagles had offered a 3rd round pick in this years draft for Tony Gonzalez, and that was the high offer on the table. I thought a third was about as much value as the Cheifs were going to get for Gonzo, but appearnelty the Falcons were willing to give up more. The 2nd rounder next year seems like a bit of a comprimise between a 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder this year, as next year's picks are usually valued at 80% the value of the same pick this year.

Lurie has brought consistency to one of the more historically volatile franchises in the NFL (one of his predecessors nearly went bankrupt and another nearly moved the team to Phoenix). Under the Boston-born Lurie, the Eagles are financially secure and have a modern stadium that will guarantee the team continued self-reliance. The Eagles have also had the most success in franchise history, reaching five NFC Championship Games in eight years and appearing in their second Super Bowl.
