Tech grad 89-93. I played football in school but not in college. I was on the Amarillo Tascosa team that played Permian in "Friday Night Lights". I live in enemy territory (Austin) and I can't stand the arrogance of UT folks.

Think about Ruff
As many of you, I've been thinking about Leach's replacement. I think Ruff is the best choice, and here's why. I've been a leader of people my entire professional life and the lesson I learned early on is "win their hearts and minds". Ruff is very popular and has the support of the team. Plays don't run themselves, and schemes, and passes etc. They are all run by young men. If those men believe in you then they will give you everything you ask for. I have seen this in my professional life and believe it is true now at Tech. Ruff may not be the best play caller but the kids love him and that's enough. He will recruit well too. If these young men are motivated and loyal to Ruffin, they will give him everything he wants. Use Cumbie and Riley as the offensive OCs, it's good to have young blood in their too. Give Ruff a chance. I belive this is a good idea for him as DC and I truely believe he was starting to turn things around. Now let's give him a chance at HC.

No Football? How 'bout pirates?
With all this swinging your sword talk and the history of pirate fandom with Leach I was wondering if Leach channels his inner pirate while watching re-runs of "Pieces of Eight"? When I was a kid, I used to watch it on Sunday afternoons. It's about pirates of course, but really obscure. Does anyone remember this show?
I thought about sending Mike the box set but I can't find it. I would also recommend the book, "The fighting Texas Navy". Yes, Texas had a navy when it was an independent country, and it was described as "semi-piratical". It's a great read and full of characters, and historical. You've got to love a country that rents its navy to Yucatan for $8000 dollars a month. And you know there are some issues when president Sam Houston outlawed the whole navy and issued a proclamation that any nation that found them on the high seas should treat them as PIRATES! Holy Hell, our own president did that??? Check out the book. You'll love it...
After clearing the haze of Mr. Miller
I've tried to recall what was happening during the game. Let's take Pott's poor performance and the myriad penalties as a given, and something that can be corrected. I want to focus on what I thought was the root cause of our struggle, namely, lack of aggression. Our OL should be the nastiest sobs out there but what we got was a whole lot of nothin'. I'm trying to recall when I played, and we were coached to try and murder the guy across from you. Literally, envision that he had just taken a baseball bat to your little sister's head right in front of you... What are you gonna' do about it? You know, that kind of rage. Our guys just didn't have it. It is hard to coach to turn it on and off for every play but it is essential for success. If Matt Moore can't get these guys to dig down deep for this aggression, then it's going to be a long season.
I hope the guys watch the game film and get embarrassed that they allowed lesser talent to push them around. Bring out the nasty or Sept. 19 will be humiliating.
What's the deal?
I haven't posted in a while but there was some news down here in Austin that got me thinking. For a long time most of us on this site have complained about defense, and justifiably so.
I heard on the news that Mack Brown has hired a DC from Auburn(?). What's up with that? He has Duane Akina but still goes out and hires another DC? We can't seem to attract a DC to Tech but Mack can get two?
Please help me understand this one...
