Canal Street Chronicles Matt Flynn punks Detroit

Former LSU national championship qb Matt Flynn punked the Detroit Lions by having an historic day in Green Bay. Matt threw for 486 yards and 6 tds (both All-Time Green Bay records) against a Lions team desperately trying to avoid visiting the red-hot Saints in the MB Superdome in the first round of the playoffs. NO SOUP FOR YOU! At the news the Packers were going to rest Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson and others, the Lions sighed in relief as playing the Saints was not Plan A. Stafford threw for 520 yards, 5 tds and put up 41 points to build a 3pt lead with 2:39 to play in 20 mph winds. As LSU fans are well aware of, the situation was right in Matt's wheelhouse. Matt marched the Pack down, including a 40 yd pass to James Jones on 3rd & 4. Then punked the Lions with a 4 yard td chunk to Jermichael Finley. Hope the Lions, at least, enjoy Bourbon Street.

"The eight-game winning streak the Falcons had been riding since October is gone. The undefeated season at home is gone. Even some of the mystique that was building in the Georgia Dome is gone and there are footprints to trace who took it away."

Canal Street Chronicles Replacing Reggie Bush is not a one-to-one proposition

Ok, so Reggie is out for a while. So what? Some say it's a big deal because of Reggie's unique abilities, mainly his quickness and growing confidence in all facets of the game. And I agree to some exent. But for the rest of the extent it gives Sean "Mad Scientist" Payton another ingredient to confound defenses. Replacing Reggie does not equal inserting a back of less quickness or diminished ability. Not with Payton. What it means is the Saints' palette of plays has now been expanded. The permutations of available plays will reveal themselves as Chris Ivory is used for the screen play instead of Pierre, for instance. It means Jimmy Graham, hopefully this week, gets his chance and runs gazelle-like down the middle clearing out space for whomever. Defenses, initially cheering Reggie's absence, will rue the day his absence forced The Mad Scientist to diversify his offense and make it even more potent than it already is.

The Saints' defensive players have preached all summer that being in Williams' system for another year has helped. It has all slowed down. They understand things better. That makes them react and not think as much.
