Dyson leads off.
Good ol' Royals
Yikes.
The Royals suck right now… maybe just suck, period. As soon as they lose the lead in a game there is a sense of dread -- their fate has been sealed. There will be no coming back from any sized deficit. Ever since Mr. Broxton;s epic meltdown in Oakland it's become evident that this will not, in fact, be our year. Not in a playoff sense or even in a "good times will be had" sense. 18-11 = 3-2. It's over before it really even started.

OT - Doritos Superbowl Contest
I edited a commercial for the Doritos "Crash the Superbowl" contest and it made it to the final round. There are five Doritos videos and the top three vote-getters will air during the Superbowl. There are 10 days left to vote and you can vote once per day. My commercial is called "Birthday Wish".
If you can spare 3 minutes, please vote for my commercial. If all you can do is spare 30 seconds, then please tell someone else to vote.
A couple of quick notes:
If you register on the site you could perhaps win tickets to the Superbowl -- i know it's a dirty trick and most of you won't fall for it... but luckily there's also a "quick vote" option where you can simply enter your email and birthday.
If the commercial places in the top 3 of ALL Superbowl commercials (as rated by Nielson) we win some money. The producers have decided to donate 10% of all winnings to Free Wheelchair Mission which is a really cool non-profit that delivers home-made wheelchairs to poverty-stricken parts of the world.
If you decide to vote leave a comment. If you have any questions please ask -- I'll be happy to answer.
Thanks... I'll never bring this up again.

At the very least, Farnsworth is a cheap, undervalued reliever that has the potential for some high upside at the back of the Rays' bullpen.
Studsfag
Sorry I missed the boat here but all I know about "studsfag" is that someone on facebook said it once, presumably on the Royals fan page.
Can someone give me the quick rundown on it's origin and it's micro-pop-culture value? Also, perhaps use it in a sentence that would make sense to an outsider like me. Please, try not to use links as they haven't been working during my brief research.
Thanks.
OT: Homegrown Talent
It's rare that anyone in Southern California even knows the Royals exist, much less throws out the first pitch for a Royals game. Tomorrow night, that's exactly what will happen as Rob Riggle (Step Brothers, The Daily Show) goes back to his roots to help raise some money for Children's Mercy Hospital.
Alex Gordon depresses me
Nobody is talking about it... perhaps because it's too painful to mention... perhaps because nobody really cares... or perhaps because nobody knows it happened. Whichever category you fall in, you have to admit the subject of Alex Gordon is pretty damn depressing.

Fangraphs: 2009 Butler vs. 2008 Gordon
Our old friend, devil_fin... Matt, compares the two seasons and fans reactions to those two seasons. Interesting stuff.
40-Man Set
Out: Devon Lowery, Doug Waechter, Tug Hulett and Julio Pimentel
In: Jeff Bianchi, Jarrod Dyson, Jordan Parraz, Manuel Pina and Blake Wood.
Good news that we protected Bianchi and Parraz... but I guess we still kept Luis Hernandez... why, again?
Kaegel Counters Dutton
Here are a few of the money quotes:
On the Callaspo trade:
"Callaspo, mistakenly linked to the Dodgers in trade rumors, might be a keeper because the .300 hitter also fits into the Royals' budget for next year."
On Gordon shifting to 1b
GMDM says "It's not something we've discussed." and "I'm quite confident that Alex is going to be an above-average defensive player wherever he ends up playing. But right now he's our third baseman."
Ahhh sh*t. Kaegel just re-raised Dutton pre-flop. The pot is getting bigger and the off-season has barely begun!
Nothing to Callaspo Rumor
Dick Kaegel sets us straight. But I think I trust Dutton more than the mouthpiece.
Royals Expected to Sign Betemit
... to a minor league deal. Prognosticators speculate perhaps Betemit can maybe fill in (cheaply) for Teahen.
Rany Chimes In... Finally
Remember that guy who writes really awesome blog posts about the Royals? He's back.
Rany gives us his thoughts on all the happenings since he said "I'm done", including the Teahen trade, GMDM's coveting of players with low service-time and the training staff. It's a great (long) read. Savor it b/c he might not write again for a while.
2010: Reality
There are currently a lot of posts about the 2010 Royals and the roster moves they can make to compete next year. I just want to say that most of them are misguided and nothing more than wishful thinking.
Posnanski on Gordon
The Alex Gordon conversation carries on, Posnanski style. devil_fingers is mentioned as I ask Joe about WAR and Alex Gordon's attitude in Omaha.
Alex Gordon's Chip
Maybe he's just going to sulk away the rest of his career, but Alex Gordon is primed for something in 2010.
GMDM to Chat With Fans
What will he say? What will he not say? Will he talk down to the fans as if they are 3rd graders? Will he continue to "not understand" stats? Will any Royals Review bloggers get their questions answered?
Tune in on Sept 8th to find out.
Royals Sign Dwyer for $1.5 Million
It's a record bonus for a 4th rounder. Dwyer was a draft-eligible freshman from Clemson.
Guillen out 6-8 Weeks
More Maier... or hopefully Teahen in RF
Gordon, Betancourt Activated
Maier optioned, TPJ DFA'd.
Neyer: Royals add Betancourt, save season
I hate to be on Rob Neyer's side... but obviously this move leaves most all of us no choice.
Release the Hounds
Who is the only remaining staff member from the last 15 years? Nick Swartz.
Hillman's Future
Looks at other AL Central rebuilding efforts to see how long their respective managers lasted. How long will Trey Hillman last?
What Now
A post that discusses possible trades as the Royals decline thru May.
Analyzing 3-0 Count Statistics
While watching the Royals game last night, I had a small debate with my buddies about what Billy Butler should do once he found himself in a 3-0 count (in the bottom of the 8th with 2 out).
I said that if Butler were to make contact on a 3-0 pitch, he'd still make an out 70% of the time, according to basic BABIP principals. However, if he were to take a walk, he'd never make an out and would get the free base to boot.
Q&A with Sam Mellinger
Studly Sam Mellinger answers some questions and gives some awesome nuggets... like this
"Mike Jacobs gels his hair even when he's about to put a hat on."
Somebody get to work on a script where formerly conjoined twins become the best shortstop/second base combo and lead the Royals to a World Series by turning a double play every inning.
MORE optimism from the NYT
They said our name... i'm surprised they knew we existed.
Gordon Nuance
With everyone now calling Alex Gordon a break out candidate, I thought I would examine why I like him... before he's rich(er) and famous(er).
Royals sign Korean catching prospect
