DeDe Dorsey helps Las Vegas win in opening UFL game
He wasn't with the Colts for very much time at all (He was apart of the special teams during the super bowl year), but I'm bored...it's late -- so there you have it.
Mike Hart returns to active roster
Oct 4: Hart was added to Indianapolis' active roster from the practice squad, the National Football Post reports.
MNF question...
Did anyone see the play where Aaron Rodges started walking to the sideline like the play call was messed up then the Packers snapped it directly to the RB and it wasn't a penalty?!
Isn't that the exact play the Colts ran a couple years ago against the Patriots in the playoff's and had a illegal formation penalty (I believe) called? We were in the red zone threatening and Peyton pretended that he was frustrated and couldn't hear the play call. He began to walk to the side and the Colts snapped the ball to the RB.
Does anyone know what the difference between those two plays were?
A question about team chemistry...
So I read this fan post ("Some P.Manning Love") and with hockey being my second love it occured to me that the great play of Pierre Garcon might put the offensive chemistry to the test if after working with Pierre for 5/6 weeks Peyton Manning suddenly finds himself attempting to work Anthony Gonzalez back into the mix.
I know the NFL differs from the NHL in that you play the people who give you the best chance to win, but my question is do we risk team chemistry and the continued progress of Pierre Garcon with the return on Anthony Gonzalez?
It may sound like a dumb question, but team chemistry has ruined a lot of good teams (In all sports). It's not like Anthony Gonzalez is going to ruin the locker room and obviously he was drafted the be the #2 guy, but Pierre Garcon has (in my opinion) looked great. He appears to be a great blocker and have excellent ball carrier vision.
Maybe this doesn't even have to be about choosing who stays and who goes? Maybe this will give them a better chance to really move the guys around and try Anthony Gonzalez in the slot, or Pierre in the slot.
So...What do you think?
The Colts five most important early-season developments . . .
One of my favorite parts?
4) The drafting of Colts President Bill Polian. There were those in the blogosophere who questioned Polian's recent draft history just before the season. The reason? The preseason releases of DE Marcus Howard, OG Steve Justice and DT Terrance Taylor, all of whom were selected in the last two drafts and none of whom are on the team. The Colts also recently released TE Tom Santi, a sixth-round selection in the 2008 draft, moved 2008 third-round selection/LB Philip Wheeler into a backup role and just this past week, 2008 second-round selection Mike Pollak began sharing time at right guard with Kyle DeVan. So, what does that say? It says maybe Polian wasn't kidding before the 2008 draft when he said it was one of the weaker in recent memory. And before you criticize Polian, where would the Colts be this season without Garcon (a 2008 sixth-round selection), Brown (a 2009 first-round selection), 2009 seventh-round selection/P Pat McAfee), 2009 fourth-round selection/WR Austin Collie and 2009 third-round selection/CB Jerraud Powers?
ESPN Story on Marvin Harrison
This is old but I had never read it until today - so I thought I would re-post in case others missed it. Interesting article about Marvin Harrison "the king of philly" and several acts of violence that have been "swept under the rug."
A question for those who went to Colts training camp...
Did anyone see the the Colts working on a defense again the Wildcat? We're more than likely going to see it and I don't recall ever seeing anyone post about a defense designed to stop it.
Also - any thoughts on the Colts running a few plays out of the Wildcat? What if it would help improve our run offense? We have the tools now with Addai and Brown in the backfield and Yahoo.com had an article earlier in the week about how the formation stacks two tackles on the same side to overpower defenses. I remember not to long ago they had Addai run option plays where he had the opportunity to throw the ball. This might give him just another advantage in running the wildcat.
Either way - I'm not really for it and I'm actually more curious about defending it more than anything else.
Forbes list of most Valuable NFL teams (Colts #15)
Colts are at #15 - Right above defending champions The Pittsburgh Steelers. Nice to know that even in a year where Pittsburgh wins a championship we still hold our value.
To all those who complain about Tony Ugoh
At least he isn't Andre Smith...holy *@#$, that's karma!!
Titans did contact Marvin Harrison, but not to sign him...
Thanks to Music City Miracles via ESPN's Adam Schefter:
"Many times the Titans have brought in veteran free agents, such as quarterback Byron Leftwich last season, for formal work outs and physicals to have on record in case an emergency situation such as an injury or suspension were to occur."
Could and aging Matt Light lead to a drop off in Brady's production?
Considering all the talk I've heard about how Tony Ugoh needs to step it up - my favorite part of this post was this quote,
"Peyton Manning was protected early in his career by Tarik Glenn, a three time Pro-Bowl selection and is now protected by Tony Ugoh who only allowed 3 sacks last year (sixth best in the NFL)."
Why your team sucks: Indianapolis Colts
Not that they suck, but it's good to know why people think we'll suck.
With Cutler in Chicago - Does Marvin Harrison join him?
I've glanced at most mock drafts and noticed the average consensus with Chicago was that they needed to, "add more offensive weapons." The current mock draft on Yahoo.com has Chicago taking Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri.
So, while I am no GM (outside of my madden 09) I have to think that since Chicago no longer has a 1st round pick and very weak WR depth -- what are the chances that Chicago goes and signs the best WR free agent available?
If you're following me here, you'll get the idea that I'm hinting at Marvin Harrison becoming a Bear. Yahoo.com's list of top 100 Free Agents has 87. Ronald Curry as the next available WR after Marvin, and I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Rashied Davis or Earl Bennett.
So fan of the Bears or not -- are you with me or not on this one?
