I'm an expatriate Spartan living in Canton, Ohio. I grew up in East Lansing (my father has taught at MSU since 1966) and graduated from Michigan State in 1987. But I've followed Spartan football, and especially basketball, for as long as I can remember. I've still got my 1979 National Championship t-shirt around somewhere. I really appreciate the chance that The Only Colors and SBNation give me to stay connected with Spartan sports while living in Buckeye country.

Cliff Alexander Talks Michigan State Visit

Alexander's reported visit did come off as scheduled. Here's a recap from, including his declaration of abiding love for the Spartans.

Cliff Alexander to Visit Michigan State This Weekend

Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports is reporting that one of Tom Izzo's top targets for 2014, PF/C Cliff Alexander of Curie High School in Chicago, will be coming to East Lansing this weekend for the Eastern Michigan game. ESPN's Dave Telep had also mentioned this visit, but noted that it was tentative. Alexander is one of the most highly ranked players in his class, listed as #10 overall by Scout and ESPN and #6 by Rivals. Michigan State, though once considered the clear leader for Alexander, is now believed to be battling Kentucky for his services. He has, however, expressed great admiration for Izzo and the Spartan program.

Football is awesome and all but Jay over at @PrepHoopsTV just posted a great highlight reel of Derrick Nix looking surprisingly agile at one of this summer's Moneyball games. Yeah, the level of competition might be questionable but it's still a lot of fun. My favorite might be one of the less spectacular moments, a left-handed layup at about the 0:48 mark that showed nice body control. But there are lot of nice moments here. Enjoy.

Spartans offer 2015 C Karl Towns of New Jersey

We haven't spent much time here at TOC on the class of 2015, since these guys are so young, but multiple sources confirm that Towns, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound 16-year old from Metuchen, New Jersey, has received a scholarship offer to play for Tom Izzo at Michigan State. Towns is a big star in his class and is seen as a likely one-and-doner. The linked article on Yahoo compares him to Dirk Nowitzki.

If anyone doubted Matt Costello belongs in a Spartan uniform next season, the Michigan State-commit put those thoughts firmly to rest and left East Lansing drooling for his services by finishing with a game-high 34 points, 26 rebounds and seven blocks.
