Meyers Leonard Pre Draft Workout in Portland Is Leonard a possible 6 for Portland?
Does Leonard have the potential to improve his defensive game or is it too raw? Is this the reason the Warriors like Zellar over Leonard? He appears to have more upside, more ability, improved drastically from frosh to soph, better numbers as a soph, etc. As we've mentioned before, Leonard's physical tools make him a rare and very intriguing prospect defensively, especially as his frame continues to fill out. He did a better job denying deep post position this season and generally displayed a good effort level, which combined with his size and length, makes him an effective one-on-one defender on the interior, as players have trouble scoring over the top of him. His excellent agility for a player his size should also help him defending pick-and-roll sets, giving him the ability to hedge and recover quickly. A big key for him defensively will likely the mental side of things and how well he can focus and bring consistent energy on each possession and pick up on team defensive concepts. Leonard blocked a solid 2.4 shots per-40 minutes this season, displaying his upside as a rim-protector and help defender at the NBA level. He also improved his rebounding numbers substantially from his freshman season, up to 10.3 per-40, but this is an area where he should be making even more of an impact, as his size and athleticism suggest that he could be much more of a force on the glass. Jeff Taylor Total Package Taylor is an incredible player that brings a complete game to the NBA. He can shoot, slash inside, play defense and best of all REBOUND. He is a high return pick.
Henson is a defensive force. Is his skill set what the warriors need? His offensive game looks better than most are giving him credit for having. He has some nice moves and a hook that may work well in the NBA.
If the Warriors draft Leonard at 7, they should immeidately hire Jabbar and teach him the "sky hook." When Kareem played with the Lakers, his hook was awesome. Leonard is better at the line than Kareem which is a plus as the only way to stop him was to constantly foul.
Jones and Sullinger pre-draft workout in Portland. Are teh Warriors still looking at Jones?
Myer's Leonard may not be a reach at 7. If you compare the stats to all the bigs that the Warriors may have a chance to draft. His stats are some of the best. For example, only has one less rebound per game than Suliinger, he outscored all in PPG but Moe, Taylor and Sulllinger. He had the highest FG% shot 73% which is middle fo the pack at FT. Additionally, he made enormous progress from his frosh year. He is only 20 is 7'1 and atheletic. He is arguable the best C in the draft.
