McCovey Chronicles Future's Game Gameday Thread, bitches

It's on live right now on MLB.TV, plus some American TV channel I don't care about.

The Giants are represented by Zack Wheeler and Francisco Peguerro. Last year it was Madison Bumgarner and Angel Villalona; in 2008 it was Angel Villalona, Pablo Sandoval, Kevin Pucetas, and Nate Schierholtz; in 2007 it was Henry Sosa and Brian Bocock.

Just so we get this straight - Beane non-tendered Cust in December, re-signed him for $2.65M three weeks later, and now DFA'd him before the season began. That's ridiculous.

Sanchez

The blue lines represent the end of an inning.

There was some discussion earlier about Sanchez's loss to the Padres and whether it had to do with some make-up issues or simple stamina problems. This graph shows a pretty steady decline in velocity between innings 1-4, and then a collapse in the 5th inning (in which Jonathan allowed 4 of his 5 runs), which definitely suggests that Dirty's ineffectiveness late in the game was mainly due to lack of stamina.

You can find more graphs like this in my blog.

Most of it isn't great, but "what is that a russian board game" made me laugh.

Brad Pitt is supposed to play Beane. Sounds pretty meh to me.

The guys at Statistically Speaking asked a bunch of Sabermetricians from around the blogosphere to submit their ballots for the six major awards. The results:

NL MVP: Albert Pujols.
NL CYA: Tim Lincecum.
NL ROY: Geovany Soto.
AL MVP: Joe Mauer/Grady Sizemore.
AL CYA: Cliff Lee.
AL ROY: Evan Longoria.

McCovey Chronicles The Baseball Analyst Ranks Cain and Lincecum

www.baseballanalysts.com

We continue our three-part series on the Best Young Players in Baseball. Unlike most prospect lists, players are categorized by age and major leaguers are also eligible for inclusion.

Matt is the third best 23 year old in the MLB (best pitcher), and Lincecum, who is slightly older, is the 8th best among 24 year olds.

What do you think?

McCovey Chronicles Kawakami Strikes Back

From his blog:

"I assume it's happening all over the Giants' blog world, not just at the fine fan site the McCovey Chronicles, though that is a particularly point-by-point blasting of me and my argument that the Giants should trade Tim Lincecum for Alex Rios."

Then he explains why he still thinks it's a good deal, and says things like "so it's sort of ridiculous to say, Rios = Winn, no?", even though no one ever said that. At least he's not being a jerk about it.

McCovey Chronicles Bonds Gets An Offer (kind of..)

Hilarious

"Barry Bonds has a public offer on the free-agent market -- from the independent Washington Wild Things, who play not far from where Bonds began his major league career in Pittsburgh.

Bonds, who made about $16 million last season for the Giants, would have to settle for the independent Frontier League's maximum salary of $1,200(!) per month."

And the best part: The Wild Things are offering "a pledge to find a host family for Bonds so he doesn't have to rent an apartment in this southwestern Pennsylvania city."

Sooo... You think he'll take it?
