UWC Toys For Tots 15
For those of you in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area looking to attend some live wrestling, the United Wrestling Coalition returns to the Pemberton campus of Burlington County College on Saturday, December 4th. The building is located at 601 Pemberton-Browns Mills Road, Pemberton, NJ 08068. The show is a benefit for the Burlington County chapter of Toys for Tots, and admission is free with a new, unwrapped toy. In addition, there will be raffles for several door prizes as well, with all proceeds going to help the local Boy Scouts.
The main event will be a three way dance for the UWC heavyweight title, with Reckless Youth returning to the ring for the first time in several years to face UWC heavyweight champion Twiggy Ramirez and Biggie Biggs in a battle of several wrestlers who have been part of the New Jersey indy scene going back 15 or so years. The show will also include the first Burlington County College Rumble, with the winner being crowned the first BCC champion. Also appearing on the card will be the UWC tag team champions Blackhearted Justice, UWC United States champion Legion, the Big Unit, Joe Rules, Taylor Nicole Rules, Warhead, and more!
For a sneak preview of the main event, here are two recent UWC matches featuring Twiggy Ramirez and Biggie Biggs, both of which featured outside interference from Reckless Youth setting up the big three way dance in Pemberton. Full disclosure: I operate the UWCWrestlingVideos channel on YouTube for UWC. I wouldn't be plugging this Saturday's show if it wasn't for a good cause, though, so if you are in the area and would like to see some wrestling action, your donations are welcome!
Kevin Nash wilding out on Twitter - real or work?
Kevin Nash made headlines around the internet today with his recent Twitter rampage strongly hinting that he would be out of TNA shortly after the Bound for Glory pay per view on October 10th. Considering his employers include Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff, two folks who still think trying to work the internet is relevant in the year 2010, it might be best to view this recent string of angry tweets with at least a bit of a skeptical eye. At the very least, this could be a negotiating tactic by Nash after receiving an offer to stay with TNA below what he was hoping for.
If this is legitimate, we could be looking at the last days of Nash's career on a national level, as it would seem doubtful that WWE would take him back, nor would Nash appear to be a guy who would want to work the WWE schedule. If this is the end of the line for Nash, I'm sure legions of wrestling fans will remember all of the good times. All of the times he loafed his way through crap matches, all of the blitzed promos that failed to advance any storyline, his booking run in 1999 that helped WWF take the lead for good in the "Monday Night Wars," and of course, all of the money he has made over the years despite all of the above. Yes, Kevin Nash, worst drawing WWF champion in history, we will all miss you.
After the jump, highlights from Nash's Twitter rampage, which you can follow yourself @RealKevinNash.
John Cena and fake William Regal get into Twitter argument over fake punches
Update: The Regal Twitter account is a fake, though it's not clear if Cena was aware of that fact.
William Regal, perhaps a tad bitter over his latest TV role being programmed against Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, took out some that frustration towards WWE's top attraction John Cena. Regal to Cena (all misspellings and internet slang sic):
Cena u'll never been over with the real wrestling fans because the can see you offence of pucnhes looks like crap.
real wrestling fans...funny. like all those who watch aren't fans. I love the stuff u come up with. Its funny [...] so is the false sense of entitlement you feel you have. Makes me smile
Regal:
the kids dont know any better but every1 over the age of 12 can see ur sloppy in the ring ur punches look unrealistic [...] plus the STFU harldy touches the other wrestler so how are we meant to believe hes taping out
Cena:
u are more than entitled to your opinion. Your pseudoentitlement comes when u think your opinion is worth more than someone elses
Regal:
as a wrestling fan watch wrestling at least expecting it to look realistic. ur poor co-ordination fake punches makes a mockery of it [...] but i dont suppose you care because ur laughing to the bank when ur huge royalty cheque come in every month
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has said in the past that WWE wants wrestlers tweeting in storyline, so it's possible, perhaps even probable, that this is all one giant work. Then again, I can't imagine that WWE will have William Regal working Raw main events with John Cena anytime soon, so unless it's something Regal and Cena threw together to work the internet, I'm not sure the point. Maybe it's to get Regal some Twitter followers? Dude has only 192 followers despite being on TV (well, WGN) every week! If you have Twitter, do Regal a favor and follow the poor guy.
John Cena tweets words of support for Bryan Danielson
Last night, WWE's top babyface star John Cena went out of his way to tweet words of support for recently fired WWE star Bryan Danielson. Some highlights:
I am very upset to hear about the release of bryan danielson. Social networks were formed so people would have a voice, and an opinon. I know you all have your own, theories and whatnot. I respect that. I have never asked any of you to feel a certaint way about me. But Bryan left a lasting impression on the wwe universe in a very short time, and although it came at my expense, I agree with the majority of you who are caught off guard by this choice. I know I'm not exactly appreciated by all, nor do I care to be, but I believe what I believe. I would like bryan to come back to the wwe. I would like to sign your petition to bring him back. I was taught to stand up for what I beileve in. I tried and failed, so I could use some help. Tell me how to sign and I will. If for nothing else, to at least have a chance to have a match with him after what was done. I know that seems a bit more fair. Give me a chance to have a fair match with him, and give him yet another chance to prove that he does belong with us. Sorry for the long message, I know I am probally way out of line, I am sorry if I have offended anyone. But like me or not That is what Hustle. Loyalty. And most importantly Respect means to me. Enjoy game 5*.
* For those that don't know, the "game 5" that Cena refers to here was Game 5 of the Lakers/Celtics NBA Finals played last night.
As part of his round the clock coverage of the Danielson Crisis, Dave Meltzer posted his belief that Cena sharing his thoughts via Twitter makes the whole situation a work. I don't know that I'd go that far, even with Cena being the WWE's top company man. While I don't think Cena's tweets are the start of a sudden anti-WWE streak from their biggest company man, it could be that the powers-that-be that were forced to fire Danielson over what happened last Monday used Cena to put the word out that they did not agree with the decision to fire him to their most loyal fans, and to let them know that Danielson will be back the moment heat has died down. That's the proper way to use social media forums like Twitter. It also has the benefit of making Cena a babyface to the internet crowd that has rallied behind Danielson in the wake of what happened, a crowd that typically does not support Cena.
Update: Danielson fired over choking Justin Roberts with tie
In an update to last night's Cageside Seats story over Bryan Danielson being fired, Dave Meltzer reported late last night that Danielson was fired over the spot in the NXT angle where he choked Justin Roberts with his own tie. Given WWE's recent move to the PG rating, Linda McMahon's current campaign for the US Senate, and WWE likely still being quite sensitive over choking spots three years after Chris Benoit killed his family, this doesn't feel like a total overreaction on their part. It was a momentary lapse in judgment by one of the very best wrestlers in the world, and unfortunately it cost him his job.
