ESPN.com'sMatt Mosley bloggs about how Coach Zorn is less then thrilled with Jason Campbell's 4-of-10 for 28 yards performance.

"We had a route that Jason held the ball and we had a vertical outside that was an easy touchdown," Zorn said of Campbell. "Honestly, it was an easy touchdown and we just didn't see it. He didn't focus on it, and then he turned back in and tried to throw the ball over the middle to the tight end [and the route] wasn't there."

What appears to concern coach Zorn the most is that Jason Campbell didn't trust his instincts and it cost the team a possible score. As most of us know the WCO is built around timing passes, and QB's ability to read coverages. Frankly i'm glad this happenend. Why you ask? Well because this is what the preseason is about, making mistakes and correcting them. Second I didn't want the team to feel to good about themselves going into the season and third I like how Zorn handles himself and his players. As much as I've heard how Zorn is constantly in his QB's faces makes me believe that this issue will correct itself.

Matt Mosley hints that Jason Taylor's foot could be a problem:

Via the Washngton Times: Jason Taylor earned defensive player of the year honors in 2006 while enduring painful plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Taylor suffered the same injury last December, one that's still lingering, but the six-time Pro Bowl defensive end refuses to give into the pain.

In the article Taylor mentions that during the week is when his foot hurts the worst and during gameday you take stuff to make the pain go away and that the foot hurts more then the time he broke his arm & collarbone. Damn I hope that this situation doesn't get worse.

Matt Mosley has a mole inside Redskins park.

And this just in: I'm told punter Durant Brooks has a slight edge over Derrick Frost in the hotly contested punting competition.

Let me say this: Durant Brooks had a slight edge when we was drafted in April.

This next preseason game could give us a early preview of what your 2008 Washington Redskins might look like. Check out that Events Tag!! Jason La Canfora who writes for the Washington Post as well as being the Insider gives us..well insight.

Redskins Coach Jim Zorn plans to give his starters their heaviest workload of the preseason Saturday night, expecting the starters to play most of the first half against the Carolina Panthers.

Let's converse about injuries first shall we? The only starter that seems to be hurt is Right Guard Randy Thomas with a knee strain. Coach Zorn says it's minor and there are no concerns for the regular season. Coach CptChaosSidekick says sit that man for the rest of the preseason! Randy Thomas is a salty vet who doesn't need any PT in the preseason and the last thing the Redskins need is an O-linemen to go down, especially in the preseason. Let the coaches get a look at some backup guards.

Injuries our more prevalent to our backups which makes sense because the have been playing more. Although rookie WR Devin Thomas got on the field last week he and fellow rookie WR Malcolm Kelly still aren't ready for a full games worth of work. What's troublesome is that whenever they do get to 100% they will be far behind on the mental side of the game. Kelly might get on the field this game and is scheduled to return to practice mid-week. All world S LaRon Landry hasn't practiced since the first week of camp and might also get on the field as well. Landry's inability to get on the field worries me some. The defense has somewhat of a new scheme and he is only one year removed from his rookie season. I'd like to see more from him. Football isn't badminton, it's a collision sport and there will be bumps & bruseis. How many of these to our players would really keep them out of a regular season game is another question.

Players who've shown me something:

DE Eramus James has been pushing hard form knee surgery and the former 1st round pick has a big chip on his shoulder. Expect him top play against the Jags during our last preseason game. RB Marcus Mason is on many teams radar and is causing the Redskins front office to do number crunching that would allow for four RB's on the roster. I like his style, like his moves. P Durant Brooks continues to kick the hell out of the pigskin. P Derrick Frost will get all the reps this week, in what could be his last attempt to make the team. Our rookies on defense. DE Rob Jackson has shown he can get to the QB, Safties Kareem Morre & Chris Horton are hitters and Justin Tryon has the look of something special, hell anyone that could keep up with Fred Smoot vocally is special. CB Matterral Richardson (someone get that man a knickname!) had a pick-six in the HOF game and has made plays. The Redskins Defense. We've played more games and allowed fewer points then most teams in the NFL and that's a great sign, preseason our not. Lets get that turnover ratio!

Clinton Portis will be making an appearance this week so keep your eyes on that and fingers crossed that he's not in this weeks game to long. My feeling is that Coach Zorn just wants to see how he preforms at game speed in his WCO

[Note by Skin Patrol, 08/11/08 2:36 PM EDT ] Promoted, edited slightly, thanks CptChaosSidekick.

Some good news, it seems that our training staff might be pretty good after all. As usual the Redskins Insider clues us in:

Defensive end Erasmus James has passed his physical and will be activated from the physically unable to perform list.

That means someone had to go and that someone is Kevin Huntley, a veteran defensive end who had failed to move up the depth chart. He's a DC area guy who had spent some time with Atlanta, but after the Jason Taylor trade and with James getting healthy, Huntley was expendable.

Now imagine this, if James can get back to full speed our Redskins could have three DE's capable of applying heat on 3rd down situations ala New York Giants '07. Jason La Canfora sees the Redskins posibly lining him up at DT in some senarios. Mr. La Canfora hosted an online chat:

D.C.: With all due respect to the previous HOF coach, this time last year and well into the season the Skins could not even line up and snap the ball consistently. After 2 mostly penalty free preseason games it seems Zorn's basic football coaching skills surpass previous administrations.

Jason La Canfora: I am with you 100 percent.

Game day was a mess under Gibbs. It really was. All of that clutter and pre-snap motion and mumbo-jumbo that never really fooled anyone and resulted in a lot of penalties (too much time, offsides, etc).

This looks like it will be a smoother operation, but, again, let's see how it goes when the results really matter. Early returns are promising, but that's not alwasy the best way to project.

The above is the first thing I was looking for when Zorn took the controls. IMO All of that clutter and pre-snap motion and mumbo-jumbo was a thing of the past and worked in the 80's & early 90's but not in this day-and-age. I remember several offensive personnel complain that the opposing defense knew what play the Skins were about to run before they hiked the pigskin. To Zorn's early credit, his uptempo way of doing things is looking good. Faster play-calling, faster coming out of the huddle to disrupt the defense, and playcalling generally all looking grand.

Randoms:

WR Devin Thomas could make his first appearance this preseason as he returned to the practice field. LaRon Landry is being handled with kiddy gloves and Zorn says he'll play in one of the preseason games; ny guess is that he'd be playing if this were the regular season. Against the Bills Antwaan Randle El had his hand stepped on but is doing fine and is practicing, however Anthony Mix, who, depending on where you go for your Redskins news, either broke a rib -- or didn't -- might miss up to a week or more. Fellow WR Billy McMullen is looking good and might just push Mix out of the roster.

Well that's it for now. -HTTR
