The Lebron James Of Baseball?

This is a link to a SI article about a young Las Vegas high school baseball player who at age 15 hit a 570 ft home run.  He holds the record for longest home run hit at Tropicana field and he is only 16. Did i mention that he can pitch and throws 96 mph? He also plays catcher and can throw runners out from his knees. Check it out its unreal.

A's in the playoffs

I was watching MlB TV online this evening and they were running a series of clips from the greatest moments in playoff history. Every time the A's were in a segment it was a horrible loss. Like Game three against the Red Sox in 04. This brings me to my point. I saw the play against the yankees where Jeter makes the bullshit back handed toss to home to tag out Jeremy Giambi, and i realized that this was my all time most hated plays. Maybe it was because my brother is a Yankees fan and he does his best to remind me of the play whenever he can. So my question for all of you is. What is one play that sticks out in your mind that really pissed you off or truly crushed all your hopes and dreams. 2 months and 17 days till the first day of the season. I hope there are no heart breakers this year. GO OAKLAND!

The Coliseum

I am posting this question out of curiosity. I am from Vermont and have never been to the west coast. So in turn I have never been to the Coliseum.
I am wondering what AN member's fondest or best memories are of the Coliseum. My favorite moment watching on TV was watching Henderson steal his record breaking base then rip it out of the ground. I wish i could have been there.
Seeing as soon the A's will be calling Cisco Field home please share some memories good or bad of the Coliseum. Or even your opinion of the new stadium.
Winter is almost over folks, April is just around the corner. Let's go Oakland. Think Spring

Still thinking about Zito

I know I need to get over it. I know it happens to us every year. We have the best and we can never afford to keep them. Over and over again it's almost  cruel.
Zito has been very good to us and I am very happy to see him get recognized for that. Who could turn down the largest Salary in baseball? Although when I saw the picture of him holding the Giants jersey I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
On a different but somewhat related subject i saw the Yankees finally threw Randy "the big Useless" Johnson back to the Diamondbacks. That made me laugh   I always like to see the Yankees waste a bunch of money on someone who is over the hill. There are talks of Roger Clemens going back to New York. Over and over again it seems like we keep repeating ourselves.
Anyway enough ranting, Happy new year. I can't wait for April 1st. THINK SPRING

Zito in Forbes

I just saw this headline in Forbes online. "Rangers Want Zito's Decision This Week". I think out of any team I would Be most disapointed if he ended up in Texas, especially considering it's W's former team. I mean honestly at least on the mets he could play for Willy Randolph who I have the utmost respect for. Come on the Rangers??? Honestly!!!! Ugggh. Check the story if you want.

Funny Stuff

I just read this news story. Towards the end there is a bit about a former Angels pitcher getting beat up by his ex wife. I wonder if Zito's wife is the one "beating" him into leaving the A's for more money.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. -
Tawny Kitaen, who starred in the 1984
Tom Hanks comedy, "Bachelor Party," has entered a drug rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to possessing 15 grams of cocaine.
The 45-year-old actress will be allowed to change her plea to not guilty after completing the program, under terms of a plea agreement, officials said. The plea change will remove the conviction from her record.

Kitaen was charged with felony possession after sheriff's deputies said they found cocaine in her apartment in May.

She was arrested in 2002 on charges she abused then-husband, former Angels pitcher Chuck Finley. She agreed to anger management and conflict resolution counseling in exchange for the dismissal of two misdemeanor counts of spousal abuse.

Hibernation

This is it folks. Mid December and cabin fever has set in for me here in Vermont. I am getting anxious nervous and depressed due to the short days and cold nights. Most depressing of all is the lack of Baseball, football just doesn't cut it. I need more games!!! I can't wait for April it's just too much.   To save me from REALLY losing it I just got an Xbox and Espn MLB 2k5. I am 14 games into the season and the A's have the best record in baseball at 13-1. Chavez is the best hitter in baseball with .508 batting avg. he also has the most homeruns in  baseball with 11. Juan Cruz pitched a full game and got 19 strike outs tying the record in one game! I know it doesn't mean anything, but god it is great to see the A's win even if it is fake and digital. 148 games to go till post season (man i can't wait for spring). Untill April I'm gonna keep my nose deep in the Xbox and on MLB.com watching archived games. Like game 3 against the twins in the first round of the playoffs this year!!! Anyway Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas. Have a wonderful holiday and everyone THINK SPRING!!!!

Let's go A's

I can honestly say i am very glad we don't have Bonds. He posed to many problems for such a laid back ball club. Piazza is at least going to fit in. I am fully willing to give hi the benefit of the doubt and welcome him to the A's with open arms. Good luck next season. I believe fully that the A's will be in the post season next year and will do as well if not better than this year. I can't wait for baseball season to start. Everyone think SPRING!!!

Lonely Fan

My name is Isaac and I'm from Vermont. Living in the north eastern United States sometimes it feels like there are only two teams on the planet, the Yankees and The BoSox. It is amazing how hard it is to find someone who isn't a fan of either team. Whenever anyone asks me what team I root for they always seem  shocked and suprised when i passionatley answer "only the best team in baseball,  the Oakland A's!" The most often response is "are you from cali?" After I say no and tell them I' a Vermonter comes the Question I want to discuss today.  "WHY ARE YOU AN A'S FAN?"] So here is why I am an A's fan.

 1. Consistancy
The A's if anything are consistant. They play good baseball all year. They go through there ups and downs but always end up in the playoffs. Maybe this is bad to say outloud for fear of a jinx but the A's every year have an amazing ability to always end up on top in their league.

 2. Bash Brothers
I was a child of the 80's and that meant only one thing. I grew up watching one of the most amazing A's teams in the clubs history. Conseco and MacGuire, Ricky Henderson, Dennis Eckersley just to name a few. How could you not fall in love with that team. (as long as you ignore the roids)

 3. Billy Beane
I can't say much but I can say that someway somehow every year this god of a GM builds from a scramble of looked over players a powerful team who can contend on any field.

 4. The Real reason
When i was 4 or 5 and first discovered baseball I learned of two teams the yankees (my brothers favorite team) and from a penant on my neighbor's wall my soon to be beloved A's. I being the typical younger brother wanted to be different from my brother so i chose the Team on the penant forever sealing the fate of my passion, love and sometimes pain that I feel for my beloved A's.
