Cubs at Shea next week, Who's pitching Monday?
hey all
for those of us living in New York this series - Sept. 22-25 - may be the only chance we get to see our Cubbies all year. I have tickets for the game on Monday the 22nd, but I'd like to know who's pitching for the cubs that night. the schedules, even tentative ones, don't give you that kind of information this far in advance. Any ideas? are Z and Harden getting more rest down the stretch?
Thanks.

Imagine four games during the pennant run......
where you have NO IDEA what's going on with the Cubs. That's what happened to me these past three - almost four days. You see, it was Rosh Hashanah starting at Wednesday sundown, and me being a religious Jew I had no access to Radio, TV, newspaper, or internet. So, needless to say, being a Cubs fan, I was worried and expecting the worst. The fact that I live in New York means nobody knows what happened to the Cubs even if you asked a non-Jew. Was I pleasantly surprised to see the good news! I went online during the 2nd game of the DH and was SHOCKED to see them up by two games over Milwaukee, (at the time, the games were still going on) and a loud "Woo-Hoo!" could be all the way down the street. So if you think you had it tough with a couple of nearly-blown saves, think of me, the Cubs fan in the dark over 4, amost 5 games. Btw, the same will happen this weekend, with Friday Night and Saturday being Yom Kippur, and it happens almost every Saturday, unless I happen to get my hands on a newspaper.
Shanah Tovah to all MOTs, and here's to a Cubs WS pennant in 5768. (that means 2007.)

the other guys who bleed blue
My friends: the Dodgers, that team with an identical record as the Cubs, were just shut out IN A 3 GAME SERIES by the CINCINATTI REDS!
3 games no runs.
I doubt they're jumping off Chavez Ravine, even if they couldn't buy a run since Sunday. Maybe we should learn a thing or two from them. The Cubs are struggling, yes, but they need our support to help them get it going again. Not just by showing up at Wrigley and guzzling OldStyle, but by being "chin up" at this here message board.
That is all.

the boxscore according to Yahoo Sports
apparently the "O-dog" Orlando Hudson did it all today:
"Bot 4th: Chi Cubs
- J. Jones singled to right center, M. Fontenot scored
Top 5th: Arizona
- C. Young homered to deep left, M. Reynolds scored
Bot 6th: Chi Cubs
- O. Hudson singled to right, M. Fontenot scored
Top 5th: Arizona
- O. Hudson homered to deep left, M. Reynolds scored
Bot 6th: Chi Cubs
- A. Ramirez homered to deep left, R. Theriot and M. Fontenot scored"
THANK YOU ORLANDO!!!!

Where's the young talent?
I watch alot of MLBTV these days, especially after being disgusted with the Cubs' play and forced to tune in other games. I see a lot of young teams with young players coming up and making an impact. Be it home run hitters or power pitchers, relief and starting, they seem to have it all. The Braves are the obvious first choice, they have new homegrown talent no matter how many they trade away. We all know about the Brewers and their home grown nucleus of young players. The DBacks seem to have a whole flurry of players, as do the Phillies. For some reason the Cubs have zero. We have the Riot, yes, but he's not a power guy. And the pitchers (at least the relief) are all the same: guys with straight fastballs who walk a ton of guys. The supposed power, guys like Pie, are terribly susceptible to sliders in the dirt, they guess fastball and decide to swing before the pitch is thrown. Why is there no big bat in the minors that we can call up? Why do the Cubs always need to go shopping in the FA or trade market? Why don't the guys in the minors produce something?!

How to remove your old posts on Usenet?
I did a google search on my name and found all my posts on Usenet (alt.baseball.chicago-cubs) still there for all to see, WITH SOME GOING BACK A COUPLE OF YEARS! How do I change that (delete the old posts) and have them also not save my future posts?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!)
Now, how do I get this post up to 300 characters..............

Anybody going to the Mets series
being here in NY means I don't get to see the Cubs play. This year I've decided to make that effort and go to Shea. Will there be a strong Cub presence there? I don't have tickets yet but would like to sit in a Cubs area. Monday night, Maddux pitching, is when I'd like to go. The Mets are packing it in this year, and tickets will be hard to come by, but I'm thinking of going all out, just to see my Cubbies.

"King of the Hill"
The 56 minute documentary shown on Dish Network following the 1972-73 Cubs is available for $1.99 on googlevideo. It follows the team, but mostly through Fergie Jenkins. Beautifully done.
This is way before my time, but it's a must see, especially for you oldtimers.
Players include
Fergie Jenkins
Billy Williams
Randy Hundley
Ron Santo
Leo Durocher
and lots of Jack Brickhouse.
A MUST-SEE FOR CUBS FANS OF ALL AGES!

New Excuse for Dusty
"We ran into a hot team, the Reds had won 7 straight, we can't be expected to stop their streak."
Wood is hurt, oh, wait, he wasn't pitching tonight.
We were watching Prior's Minor League Start.
We were trying to be aggressive with Arroyo.
We were worried he'd hit HRs off Rusch, so we gave them up to the 7,8 and leadoff hitters.
Hey! Griffey didn't hit one! (oh he didn't play? so what, we still kept him off the bases!)
We kept Adam Dunn in the yard, don't we get points for that?
We didn't get any walks, so we didn't clog up the basepaths, ain't that worth something?
We struck out 10 to their 4, that should help, no?

Have the Cubs been suckered again?!
We all know what FL did to the Cubs in the Willis trade. Yet, it seems like the Cubs and Jim Hendry will not learn their lesson. This series has shown us what they got for Pierre, a guy they wouldn't resign after next year anyway, 2 solid pitchers, but we knew that. Most of us were excited by the idea of getting JP, but boy, has he EVER disappointed. Not to rehash an old idea, but Corey Patterson has just upped his average to .300. with 4 HR's and 17 RBI.
So to recap: The once-prized farm has been depleted.
Sosa - Hairston. advantage ?
Corey Patt - Theriot. advantage ?
Pinto, Nolasco Wellemeyer- JP. advantage ?
Koronka - Bynum. advantage?
Sisco was lost in the rule 5 (after all, we had Rich Hill, right?)
Wood is average
Prior is damaged
Are there more?
You get the drift.
Is JH a sucker or what?
He must have some bridges in Alaska that somebody sold him.
This will be some rebuilding task, especially now that they won't be willing to make more trades after the last few years of disaster. Then again, some fools never learn.....
Yeah, Yeah, we all thought that was Corey was washed up, but I guess a change of scenery, especially a trip out of Chicago, does everybody good.
