Kyle Parker update
This just in from that venerable news source, the Durango Herald...
In a conference call with Denver reporters, Clemson quarterback/outfielder Kyle Parker offered more signs that he will be giving up his football career and focus on baseball. "I had a lot of fun playing football (at Clemson) and enjoyed it," Parker said. "We made it clear that I wanted to go first to a baseball career. If everything works out, that's what I intend to do...I think (the Colorado Rockies) just want me to play baseball. If they want me to do that, I'm fine as long as everything is right and meets the needs that I want.."
Barring sticky contract negotiations, Parker is as good as gone. Meaning Tajh Boyd will be Clemson's starting quarterback in 2010.

Ianetta as trade bait
Today's mlbtraderumors.com report centers on our very own Chris "8.75 million for what?" Ianetta. Perhaps surprisingly for us devotees and close followers of the Rox, the story is extremely bullish on CI, essentially wondering out loud what were the Rox thinking when they sent him to AAA. They look at him as a bargain. Not my personal view. But if the Rox did trade him, it would be most interesting to see what is available. Is it really time to completely give up on him? Is he really the next Ben Petrick?
Matzek making me nervous
The clock is running and running faster in these last few days before the Rox can sign Tyler Matzek, who could be a blue chipper (the operative word is 'could' of course). Stories about Rockies finances might point to losing the guy, which would be a true waste. So what do you think? Is this a potential Matt Harrington-type embarrassment in the making or will the Rox buckle down and get the guy to sign by Monday? Who amongst us would not want to see a rotation that includes Jimenez, Cook, Chacin (forget last night), Friedrich and Matzek? Where are we all going with this?
