Should the NFL add a 20-yard dash to the Combine?
OK, almost every day someone complains about how the 40-yard dash does not tell you much (if anything) about a player.
So, the question is should the combine have a 20-yard dash? Let's face it, if a defender has to run 40 yards down the field, the offensive player is more than likely going to score a touchdown. Most of the action happens within 20 yards. So shouldn't players be timed in a 20-yard dash as well as a 40?
I personally would like to know how fast a defender can close within 20 yards or how fast the offensive guy can get away. I believe that time would be a lot more revealing of their speed or lack thereof. Of course it won't tell you if they are a great football player, but I think it would be good information to know. What do you guys think?
OK, This is it! McClain or Weatherspoon?
OK, Let's put all other positions aside for a moment. I have one question for Giant fans. Mcclain or Weatherspoon?
I personally don't understand why Mcclain is ranked so much higher than Spoon. McClain has the size advantage yes, but that is all. Mcclain played on a better defensive team but Spoon still held his own. McClain isn't too slow for the NFL but I think he is too slow for us,(especially with the running backs in Dallas and Philly) and now we find out he has health issues.
Spoon is faster, stronger, just as smart, has good hips and can play all three positions, McClain certainly cannot. (Reese and company loves versatility) Spoon has more personality (which is always a plus in NY). They are both really good tacklers and can read and react very well. In my opinion Spoon will be the better NFL player out of the two. If we can trade back to pick up Weatherspoon and an extra pick, great. However, that will not happen. Weatherspoon will not make it out of the top 20. McClain will fall out of the top 10. They will both go between 11 and 20. I have been watching tape on this kid and he is the truth. I'm tired of people saying 15 is a reach for Spoon, that's ridiculous.
I saw McClain's workout and have to say I was not impressed. After not working out in the combine. He needed to blow away his pro day. He didn't. I want Spoon on our team and I have been saying this since before the draft but now I ask you all. McClain or Weatherspoon?
So what now?
Excellent move getting Rolle! Now, With the first pick we go ILB only if McClain or Weatherspoon is there. (Play Spoon at ILB- not too much of a reach at 15). Then grab the best DT in the second.(I like Odrick). If not, get the highest DT at 15 (Dan Williams) and try to grab Spikes in the second. Third round pick up an OT. Fourth rd CB. Fifth round Safety. Sixth round look for a kicker if possible or a blocking TE. Seventh round take the Best player avail. I wouldn’t mind trading up to 11 or 12 for McClain and giving up a 5th in which case take a Safety in the Sixth. Or trading back to 19 or 20 for an extra pick and Weatherspoon. But what do you think about taking Mays at 15 and moving him to ILB? All he’ll have to do is gain an extra 5 pounds. LOL. Now that Carr is signed to the 49ers, what do you think about bringing in Culpepper as our number 2 QB?
