With Okafor moving inside, DE depth is goddamn crazy thin. What's the plan? Are we moving Okafor or Dravanti to end? I think we should have gone for three DEs in 2011 class - now, let's hope we at least get Alexander. Also, recruiting no DEs in 2008 is in all likelihood going to hurt us next year.

Burnt Orange Nation Shannon and Harsin

Do you guys remember 2007 when we were all hoping for Shannon at DC? He ended up staying at Miami as head coach, and we ended with the disaster of McDufff/Akina. Well, fast forward to today, we again have a shot at Shannon which is a very well respected defensive mind. He said to be an excellent recruiter witout the coach in waiting drama. IF we get him, and Harsin for OC along with some decent OL/DL/conditioning coaches, we will be in a great shape IMO. I just feel positive this morning. How do you guys feel? Hook 'Em.

In the loss against the Hawks. He had a bad 4th quarter, but still an amazing game for the rookie.

Watch the freak that is Alex Okafor. He is possibly the best 2009 player in Texas.

Burnt Orange Nation Hook 'Em Horns

8-1 is pretty good for a rebuilding year. Go back 2 months, and think about being 8-1 on November 2nd. You would have been a moron not to take that in a heart beat. Yeah baby, in a rebuilding year, with no flashy player, with two freshmen safties, we are f#&king 8-1. Get yours horns up.

There are many scenarios that can take us to the Arrowhead stadium. Let's enjoy the rest of the season. Hook 'em horns.

Burnt Orange Nation Nations #1 Volleyball Recruit Commits to the Longhorns

Baily Webster #1 recruit from Maryland committs to Coach Elliott. From Baltimore Sun:

St. Paul's Bailey Webster, named this fall by PrepVolleyball.com as the nation's No. 1 high school volleyball recruit, has orally committed to the University of Texas. She plans to sign a national letter of intent Nov. 12.

Webster, last season's All-Metro Player of the Year and the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year, recently visited Alabama, Florida, Stanford and Washington before making her decision. She said she made her final phone calls Tuesday night. A 6-foot-3 senior, Webster jumps so high that she can touch 10 feet, eight inches, which her St. Paul's coach Kelli Wilkinson said is high even for an Olympian.

Feels good being a Longhorn, no?

Burnt Orange Nation Huge 2010 commitment

Rick Barnes is the man. We already have two top 10 players in the 2009 class committed. We have a top 5 player in 2010, and now Daniel Bejarano a five star shooting guard from Arizona has committed to Rick Barnes and co. He is the #16 player according to Rivals, and #3 shooting guard according to scout.

Daniel Bejarano visited the 'Horns last weekend during the Missouri game, and apparently came out impressed.

2010 is going to be the year. Start the celebration!

Burnt Orange Nation FirstDibz: cheap MNC tickets

FirstDibz.com is a site where you can buy the "right" to get MNC tickets at face value if your team makes it. For example, right now you can buy Texas for MNC at $82. Meaning if Texas goes to Miami, you would get tickets at $250. But, if Texas misses the MNC game, you are out of your $82.

It works like a stock market, so if Texas wins the price of options should go up. I haven't used it before, but people at Orangebloods say they have used it before for 2005 rose bowl and other games.

Thought I pass it on, in case you are not donating enough to the foundation, this is a good deal IMO.

PS. I have no idea how legit this site is, but again, I've heard that people have got tickets from them. Apparently, they were used to be called TicketReserve.com.

Burnt Orange Nation Fisher embarrasses Vince Young!

Fisher was giving a speech to NFL rookies, and after warning them about off the field issues, he makes an example out of Vince.

One of Fisher's prime examples of unwanted embarrassment involved his most famous player — quarterback Vince Young. He never mentioned Young by name. He simply showed slides that appeared on two giant screens flanking the stage. The first showed Young posing with fellow participants in a panel discussion during last year's rookie symposium.

"You recognize the second guy from the left?" Fisher said. "He was here last year, and you know what he talked about? He talked about off-the-field (behavior) ... how you guys have got to be really careful because ... one little cell phone camera that sends out (photos or video from) here and it ends up here. And guess what? You're embarrassed."

WOW! Note that this was in front of ALL rookies, not just Titans rookies. What the hell was he thinking doing that? What does embarrassing his own QB in front of whole NFL achieves?

Burnt Orange Nation Commit #19: Derek Johnson

Defensive Tackle Derek Johnson from Arkansas became Texas 19th commitment. There were talk all along that we need at least 2 defensive tackles in this class, with the uncertainties around Jamarcus McFarland, the staff offered Derek Johnson and apparently he committed on the spot. I think he is originally from El Paso.

Obviously, he is no Jamarcus McFarland, but he seems to be solid. He is #7 on the Arkansas top 21: http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=812287

Here is the blurp that Rival's Arkansas mods wrote about him (apparently a while ago):

Johnson is a big, athletic defensive linemen who could move up this list with futher evaluation. He is also a good bet to receive an official scholarship offer from the Razorbacks following summer camps. Mississippi State was the first school to extend an offer, but they will not be the last. At 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, he has good size and athletic ability. He is also strong in the weight room with a 315-pound bench press max. Johnson registered 98 tackles and forced five fumbles last season for Hoxie. The fact that he plans to major in business could be a bonus for Arkansas since the UA has a nationally ranked business school in the Walton College.

Razorbacks did end up offering.

PS. This is free info from Rivals, btw.

Burnt Orange Nation Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley talking about why he left Texas: (From DMN)

Finley just finished up describing why he left Texas. It all started with the Oklahoma game, a big one for him. His four catches and 149 yards affirmed what he thought all along, and led him down the path of no collegiate return.

"That game showed that I needed the ball more," Finley said. "Texas couldn't do it, so I'm coming to the next level. And hopefully at the next level I'll get the ball more. Hopefully I get an offensive coordinator that'll get me the ball, some kind of way. It was against a great defense, a top-five defense, and I showed what I could do."

Burnt Orange Nation Women Basketball

We lost at Colorado yesterday, and now we are 16-9 and 4-7 in conference. Big 12 south is pretty tough though. What is our status now, how many wins do we need in order to get to the tourny? Is 7-9 in conference going to be enough?

Burnt Orange Nation 7th commit: Thomas Ashcraft

Both scout and rivals have him as committed to the good guys.

From free part of orangebloods:

The battle for Rivals100 offensive lineman Thomas Ashcraft was expected to go down to the wire, with Texas and Oklahoma battling it out for his commitment. Most insiders believed Oklahoma had the early lead in the recruiting race, but Texas closed that gap in a hurry over the weekend and the Longhorns have raced to the finish line.

He is a 6'5 offensive tackle, ranked #13 in LSR and #59 in the Rivals 100.

Burnt Orange Nation Darrell Scott

So, with Jamaal leaving, does Darrell comes to Austin?

What could be the deciding factor on whether the 6-foot-0, 204-pound athlete [Darrell Scott] becomes a Longhorn?

"Really, it's whether or not Jamaal Charles comes back," Scott told the Austin American-Statesman prior to the news about Charles declaring for the NFL draft. "It will be big if he leaves. I don't want to sit out my freshman year. I'm trying to hop in and make some chaos somewhere."

From Statesman
