Loyalty is a one way street

He will stay on in his Special Assistant to the Athletic Director post.

20 Yrs and $300M: Texas forms own network

To be announced later day, a deal between ESPN and the University of Texas for the first broadcast network exclusive to a college or university. ESPN is paying UT a rights fee of $15 million a year for the 20 year deal. IMG college already pays UT $10 million for other multimedia rights, so that means Texas athletics receives $25 million for its broadcast rights.

Okay, so slightly off-topic, but I'll bring it back around to Mizzou FB with this question: This video shows all of the TDs scored this season by Oregon. Discounting the defense/special teams TDs, and given James Franklin's dual-threat capabilities, I wonder if Pinkel and Yost will pay a visit to Oregon this offseason to install some of this.

Pinkel, Alden to ring NASDAQ opening bell Friday

Pinkel, Alden and Iowa athletic director Gary Barta will be on hand for the ceremony. It will take place at 8:15am central time and can be viewed here: (edited to add link. Thanks, Andy--01. Because I. am a moron.)

TCU to Join Big East Conference in all sports starting in 2012

Move gives the Big East Conference a top five football program, decent baseball...and a bottom feeder in basketball. An absolute soul sucking bottom feeder. The league will sit at 17 unless they add one more all sports team (maybe Memphis, who desperately wants in or... somebody else).

Or until the conference implodes. Whichever comes first.

Liberty Mutual to donate $1,000,000 to two schools charities for penalty free game

This is for any division in football (I, II or III). Why is this relevant? Well, the game that came closest to accomplishing this task last season? The Texas Bowl. Navy was flagged twice for 10 yards. Mizzou was not charged with a penalty at all. (h/t: Dr. Saturday) Update at 11:06 Pacific: According to the AP Top 25 Twitter feed, the last game with no penalties at all took place in 1986. It was Army-Navy.

Mike Alden Named to NCAA Leadership Council

Alden takes over from Damon Evans, the former UGA athletic director. (Below is not from this press release, but from another one describing what the council does.) The Leadership Council is comprised primarily of directors of athletics, faculty athletic representatives and commissioners representing 31 Division I conferences and serves as an advisory body to the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. The council identifies issues important to the future of the organization, in addition to providing expertise in defining appropriate action items. Several NCAA committees report to the council, including the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, the Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Committee on Women's Athletics and all NCAA cabinets

Fresno State and Reno invited to join MWC

Although I thought this offer was already reported as rejected this morning. Curiouser and curiouser.

Aw Hell...Really, BYU? Now?

BYU is apparently getting a head start on Realignment-palooza™ 2011 as they appear to be moving Olympic sports and basketball back to the Western Athletic Conference and will go at football as an independent.

SPOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!! has a deal!

5 Year deal, but I have yet to see what the numbers are.

Evans, pulled over Wednesday at 11:55 p.m. at the intersection of Roswell Road and Chastain Drive, told the trooper, "I am not trying to bribe you but I'm the athletic director of the University of Georgia." Evans, who admitted to drinking three Vodka cocktails, then began crying, the report states.

Ah, yes, it's always good to play the "Don't you know who I am?" card when one has women's red panties between their legs and begin to cry as well. Methinks Mr. Evans needs to find a realtor. And a divorce lawyer. And update that resume.

"Playing those other teams in Texas gives us a strong presence in Texas. It helps us recruiting. That along with travel and those kinds of things is what, logistically, was all working," he said. "What the Pac-10 brings is also such long tradition and history, great schools — great academic schools. I thought all of it was win-win in my eyes."

Bob Stoops discussing his view on the expansionpalooza mess a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, the members of this conference are totally going to be BFF. (HT: EDSBS)

'I don't quit,' Coleman told the Houston Chronicle. 'I don't start something I'm not going to finish. If I didn't think this was a worthy endeavor, I wouldn't have started it. This is the beginning of this effort, not the end.'

A Texas State Rep. discussing a letter he sent to Dan Beebe about having the University of Houston join the Big 1210. Further proof that some politicians really need to stay away from sports — especially intercollegiate athletics.

As part of its proposed deal, FSN has asked to take control of the conference's third-tier rights that are currently controlled by rights holders IMG, ISP and Learfield, sources said. These rights include radio, local media, third-tier TV rights, corporate sponsorships, and in-stadium and arena signage. It is not known when these rights will be available.

Some information from Sports Business Journal Daily about the new television package that Dan Beebe and the Texas Overlords are trying to put together to save the Big 12

"I expect that Jim, who I have known for many, many years and trust implicitly, that he’ll do what he said he’s going to do," Beebe said. "If and when the time comes that they’re going to do anything — and if that includes any of the institutions in the Big 12 — he’ll let me know first."

Dan Beebe talking about expansion to USA Today on April 21, 2010. Do you still trust Jim, Dan? Do you? http://www.freep.com/article/20100421/SPORTS08/100420089/Big-Ten-commissioner-Jim-Delany--We%5C-re-not-close-to-expanding-yet

Roy Kramer knows conference expansion

The guy who started the arms race by poaching Arkansas from the old SWC, creating a conference championship game and also initiating what would become the Bowl Championship Series talks expansion Armageddon. I'm inclined to listen to him and believe him above some of the other rumors out there.

A Bit Of A History Lesson

In case you happen to be too young to recall how the MWC came to be born, here's a bit of a history lesson from SI.com's Andy Staples. I think it's supposed to be an instructive warning to the Big Televen that they might want to heed if they decide to go to 16.
