IFAF World Cup 2011
Hello BRBers,
In case you're jones'n for some real live football (I'm guessing most everyone reading this falls into that category), the IFAF (International Federation of American Football) is holding their quadrennial World Cup-like World Championship of American Football event starting tomorrow and going through July 16.
The USA won it last time around in 2007, although the finals were close as they ended up beating Japan 23-20 in double overtime. This time around they are coached by Mel Tjeerdsma, who apparently coached some championship Division II college teams.
I don't recognize any of the names on the USA roster except for Cody Hawkins (former Buffaloes QB). The team appears to be comprised of "pretty good" college players that weren't good enough for the NFL and may or may not be playing football in international pro leagues.
The quality of football will likely be suspect but hey, it's real football. Plus, I'm interested to see how other countries' teams approach the game.
Team America will take on Australia tomorrow at 3 pm Central Time (if my time-zone math is correct.)
All that being said, I can't find anyone that is broadcasting this in the states. Google searches revealed nothing except various sites that will be streaming the games. You would think NFL Network would be all over this to distract people from hearing about the labor fight.
Anyone going to watch/follow this?
