an eye on the future

Today the Miami Dolphins cut their 6th round draft choice, Jalen Parmele, a fast running back out of Toledo. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-parmelecut092508,0,4582112.story They're hoping to sign him to their practice squad. In PFP 08 Jalen had one of the highest speed scores in this year's draft. In the speed score essay one of the PFP authors' comments was that sometimes you can find late round sleepers based off of their speed scores. Parmele had a very good speed score; I can't remember what it was right now and I'm at work, but I'll check when I get home. I've been keeping my eye on him this year, but he just wasn't going to get an opportunity behind Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

Another frequent comment of the PFP guys (they're the football bible if you haven't picked up on Skin Patrol's love of them yet) is that running backs are overrated. They have short shelf lifes and good backs pop up out of nowhere. In the hopefully untrue scenario where CP falls off a cliff in the next year or two, I would love to have a fresh, young, cheap guy be able to step up and suprise people. The Skins should sign Parmele to the practice squad, let him marinate for a year or so, and then he could probably make the squad in 2009 or 10. If nothing else, it's worth a shot.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, and maybe I'm giving the Skins front office too much credit that they'd be able to spot the hidden talents of a so far unknown commodity. But I would love to see smart moves with the present and the future in mind coming from this organization.

Awhile back people were talking about going to the Rams game, and I'm following up to see if anyone still plans on going to that game. My buddies and I just got $35 tickets ($45 after all the BS) on www.broadwaykings.com. Just got the tickets in the mail today. They're $20 below face value, which is really suprising. They're up top of course, but that doesn't bother me. Can't wait to get to the stadium this year. Skins baby!!
