The Ralphie Report The Next Contract

I don't understand why when they write coaching contracts, they don't put some sort of performance clause in as pertains to the payout of the remainder of the contract in case of termination by the University. You could set something up like multiplying the total potential buyout by the win % the year the coach is fired, or maybe total win % at the school. To be fair, you could put in a win floor (other than 0) and a win ceiling (other than all games) that would yield a buyout of nothing or everything. For example, 3 wins or less, the fired coach gets $0, 8 wins or more, they get it all. Once you start thinking about it, there are a lot of ways to structure it that would be better than what we seem to have now. I would like to see something like this set up for our next coaching contract so money is less of an issue and the university isn't penalized for making the right decision. It turns my stomach to think that Hawkins is going to get millions of more dollars for being fired for cause, when he should get nothing.
