3rd and Long - Reversing the Chargers' polarity

So after another bad week against the Pats in which the Broncos gave up a horribly high conversion rate on 3rd and Long, I was really interested to what the D would do against the Bolts. The...

Our D, or the QBs we've faced - you decide

+

The top 3 QBs at converting by pass on 3rd down have all played against he Broncos in 2012. Oh, and Brady is not one of them (he is #10). #4 plays for us.

3rd and Long - Pride cometh before the fall

The Broncos D had been improving every week after getting schooled on 3rd and long to start the season. This culminated in a superb effort against the Faiders in which they were held to 0 for 6 on...

3rd and Long - completely dominating the Faiders

In this weeks installment we will get to see what a dominant D looks like and does in 3rd and long situations. To recap - coming into week 4, the Broncos D had allowed our opponents to convert...

3rd and long - making progress

This is the continuation of the post that I am going to make a series - following the Broncos D's performance on 3rd and long (6 or more) throughout the season. After two games the Broncos had...

3rd and long - statistical anomaly or systemic problem?

Despite the Broncos win in week one, there were a big problem for our defense - getting off the field on 3rd and long (3rd and 6 or more). Against Pittsburgh we hoped that it was just a function...

Denver's Decade of Dichotomous Defense

A couple of years ago, I did a post looking at just how bad the Broncos D had been in 2010. I hope to never have to root for a team with a defense that bad again. Many of us at MHR feel that the...

Realistic Rookie Expectations

There has been a lot of discussion about the contributions that the Broncos got from our rookies in 2011. Miller, Moore, Franklin, Green, Harris and Carter all started at least some of the season....

Thoughts on our draft

Since I did a fair amount of research on the DTs, LBs and RBs available in this draft. MLBs RBs first one RBs second one DTs first one DTs second one I wanted to share my thoughts on the Broncos...

Assessing the two trades

I'm going to be blunt here. The draft value chart was developed by Jimmy Johnson (or at least he is given credit for it) in the early 1990s. You remember the early 1990s, right? That was before...

RBs in the 2012 draft - how to evaluate them and the odds of finding another TD

My therapist told me that my obsession with defensive tackles is unhealthy and I need to spend some time seeing another position. So I've chosen to look at another position of perceived need to...

Deriving meaning from the combine results

Good read on correlation between combine performance and draft position as well as correlation between combine performance and NFL success (5 year starter). Page 6 has the most interesting data.

Learning from history - Super Bowl winners' draft strategies

Almost all of the recent discussion on MHR has focused on the draft. One big point of debate has become where the Broncos should spend their high draft picks - on the defensive side of the ball or...

To Kill a Mocking (the Draft) Bird - a Broncos recap of the full MTD live mock

Chasing the elusive butterfly - the pocket collapsing, pass-rushing DT

So you want a penetrating DT who can rush the passer in the first round?

I'd like to see us get one (as would half of the people on MHR who took the survey last week). So with that in mind and now with combine data in our grasp lets look at the tale of the tape for the...

The risk/reward analysis on drafting RBs earlier vs later

We've heard it said so many times over the course of the 2011 season that most of us could recite it in our sleep - "The NFL is a passing league." Statistics back this up with not one, but two, QBs...

Good read regarding the work ethic of Tim Tebow

I am getting more excited by the day about the NFL future of our current starting QB. Regardless of your line of work, if you put this kind of effort into impriving your understanding of what you are doing, you will be successful.

NFL Rules on advancing a fumble

2

Since the Jets OG recovered that fumble not within two minutes of the half or the end of the game, he was allowed to advance with the ball into the endzone. I have seen some posts saying that refs blew that call last night, but they got the call right according to the NFL rules site. "If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. "

Definition of a bad year (+)

2

Over the last calendar year the Broncos have a record of 3 wins and 14 losses. The last time the Broncos won back to back games was Nov. 26 and Dec. 6 of 2009. Since the bye week in 2009 the Broncos have one 3-game, three 4-game and one 5-game losing streak.

Painful to read

● 95 of the 125 yards Ryan Mathews picked up came after contact. ● The Chargers intercepted one ball and broke up another five, while only allowing ten completions.
