Lions will bounce back big vs Falcons
A tough, heartbreaking, and close loss.
Best way to describe this slug fest, both teams came out swinging, but 49ers gave the final blow at the end to win it. I didn't think we would lose, but we did. It could've gone in either direction at the end, but the 49ers were the better team yesterday.
What would you do?
This segment is another "what if" and I'm sure all of the Lions fans are sick of the "what ifs", but I'm going out on a limb for the 2011 season. I'm getting the Lions to the Superbowl in 2012, their first one ever in the history.
Suh will be moved around on the line/ games won *Poll*
The Lions brass isn't stating so, but based on my "inside sources" I believe that Suh and maybe even Nick Fairley will be moved around, alot like last year when they ran that chaos formation.
Just wanted to say congratulations on a successful draft
Jerry Angelo was smart to draft an offensive tackle in the first round. That offensive line gave up 50+ sacks last season and dominant d-lines absolutely man-handled that line at times last year (see: @NY Giants). I also believe that Stephen Paea is a very underrated d-tackle that is a top-5 d-tackle of this year's draft.
Three top talent impact players beats need any day
I'm so sick of the local medias saying how the Lions should've got a corner or should've got linebacker when the guys they wanted, Titus Young would've been picked directly after them at #45 for the Rams. Or any number of teams getting LeShoure after #57. I thought they did the right thing and got b.p.a when they thought they had to.
Nick Fairley to Detroit was a shocker, but makes sense in the long run
Martin Mayhew has stunned us once again, instead of a linebacker, tackle, or corner he picked the highest rated defensive tackle in the draft. This is probably the pick that puts the defensive line to elite status, once they get the corner and linebacker situation sorted, this defense could be downright scary.
The NFL has put a sour taste in the fans mouth
This is getting to be ridiculous. Judge Nelson lifts the lockout so that the players can go hang out at team facilities? Or they can workout if they are supervised? What the hell is going on with the league? Don't they realize that ultimately
the fans are the one that they have to worry about the most? Without fans, THERE IS NO NFL! There is no billionaires vs millionaires fight club!
Monday Night Football in Detroit
I'm very excited that the NFL gave us Lions fans a Monday Night game, not only did they give us a great divisional game matchup, but we are at home as well! This will be very memorable for us, but I hope we can prove that we belong in the premier slots.

The Lions are improved, but are they Monday Night worthy? *POLL*
I wonder how much went in to letting the Detroit Lions not only play in a premier game, but host a divisional game on Monday night. Was it the fact that they won 4 games and showed that they could win, was it the fact that they were in every game they played last year? Calvin Johnson, Ndamukong Suh, Jahvid Best and Matthew Stafford? They won games with 3 different QB's? I'm not really sure, but I have a theory outside of the obvious of just improvement.
Maybe letting the Vikings and Giants play in Detroit on Monday night and the buzz it created had something to do with it?
Stafford looks like a #1 overall pick in UGA Spring Game Challenge Win
It was very apparent early on who the current NFL starting quarterback was.
Matthew Stafford looked very sharp today in his return from having shoulder surgery a few months ago. He threw one pass especially that reminded me of how much power that he really has, very impressed with how he threw the ball.

Will the Lions get a primetime slot for the 2011 season? *POLL*
Star Power = Primetime Football
Something that the 2011 Detroit Lions seem to have is a good number of marquee names that could put them in position for Sunday or Monday night slots.
Will the 2011 Lions repeat what the 2010 Browns did?
The NFC North based Detroit Lions and the AFC North based Cleveland Browns, historically speaking, have been similar in a lot of different ways. From the dominant teams in the championship 1950's to the recent laughingstock teams of the 2000's. Will history repeat itself for the 2011 Detroit Lions or will they rewrite history?
Jahvid Best could be the next great one for the Lions
I think with a healthy Stafford, upgraded receiving corps and more sound run blocking, Jahvid Best could be a Marshall Faulk/Thurman Thomas type of running/receiving back. He posseses many of the same traits as those guys and has dangerous weapons around him like they both did as well.
What Will Mayhew do?
I know this discussion has been talked to death on POD, but I just have to wonder what Mayhew is thinking right now. He talked about his meeting like he really believed that Smith matured. I've always wanted Jimmy Smith to be a Lion ever since the draft talk started.
With the 13th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions select...
Nate Solder- Offensive tackle-Colorado!
No, I didn't want them to select this guy earlier on as some might remember my clamor for Jimmy Smith, but the main thing that makes me think we will draft a offensive tackle is no other than Mr. Schwartz himself.
Most people want the Nebraska CB, a LB or an OT...but what about CB Jimmy Smith?
I really like this kid. He's a beast in press coverage, something that Schwartz and co. covet in a cornerback. He's tall, fast, strong, and just absolutely balls like some of the best currently in the NFL, even drawing comparisons to Nnamdi Asomugha. The main problem with this kid...off the field issues.
How the feeling for the 2011 Lions is different than past seasons
My, how times have changed. The Detroit Lions were 0-16 in 2008. The worst season ever to go along with the worst team of all time. Going into the 2011 season, they have 2 All-pro players in Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh, a QB that, when healthy, has the ability to be elite, a running back that has sprinter speed in Jahvid Best, a top-5 defensive line, and a coach who seems to have a direction with this team. Add a GM that has savvy and intelligence and you get a team that is in a lot better situation than the last ten seasons prior combined.
Believe it or not: Matt Millen did help us to an extent
I know that Millen was the worst GM in the history of sports. I know he couldn't really do much worse in terms of talent evaluation for certain schemes. Despite the misery that he put us Lions fans through, he did make a few moves that might end up benefiting us in the long run.
Good game Bears fans
It's too bad that the game ended the way it did, with Cutler going out and Hanie throwing that pick to end the game. It got interesting closer to the finish line when he threw that TD pass to Earl Bennet, but even with the Bears stifling defense that played extremely well, it couldn't help out that offense that had a 3rd stringer under center in the end.
What if Stafford plays a whole season in 2011?
I know this might be a big "what if", but how do you think the Detroit Lions fare if Stafford plays an entire season in 2011, with upgraded talent on both sides of the ball?
Bears a better team than most anticipated last year
I used to come to this site, but things worked out where I got banned by Kev H and decided if I didn't have anything nice to say, that I wouldn't say anything at all. Well, the Bears are a really good team and what's most surprising to us Lions fans, is the fact that Marinelli and Martz of all people helped them become what they are. Just goes to show you how terrible of a GM Matt Millen was for Detroit ,eh?
2011 Mock Draft
Every draft site on the internet has the Lions either drafting a linebacker, cornerback, or offensive tackle first, except one that has a defensive end, which seems absolutely almost as stupid as drafting 4 wide receivers in 5 years.
NFL Network's Top Ten Snakebit Franchises-Detroit only #7?
I recently came across a top ten segment on the internet with the most snakebit franchises of all time and while I wasn't surprised one bit (pun intended) that the Detroit Lions were on this list, more or less just taken back at the fact that they weren't even in the top five!
Aaron Rodgers might end up as good as no. 4 in the end
I'm a diehard Lions fan that use to live in Appleton, Wisconsin but moved back to Michigan a while ago. I've always been partial to the Pack, obviously not as much as to my Lions, but I always hoped they would win it all because my team has been absent from the playoffs for a decade. I think this team might be as good as the 96-97 Packers that won the Superbowl with no. 4.
2010 season has been very unfortunate for Lions
It's tough to be a Detroit Lions player, say Jeff Backus or Dominic Raiola who have had to endure almost a decade of losing seasons. It's even harder being a fan of the Detroit Lions, pay to see them live, and they falter in a different fashion year after year. 2010 has probably been the hardest for me to endure as a Lions fan.

Jim Schwartz still needs more time to improve the Lions
I know that people are pretty hard up on Jim Schwartz right now, as there are plenty of Detroit Lions forums that want to shit-can him and aren't giving him a fair shake. I have to defend him because I truly believe that even though he may start out winning just 6 games or less in his first two years and have a bunch of horrible records of ineptness tied to his name, he will be the coach who gets this team somewhere they haven't been in a very long time, possibly ever.
Thanksgiving game tradition gives Lions fans thanks for being a fan
I'm attending the game tomorrow and I'm wearing my #20 Barry Sanders with my son sporting that same Sanders jersey. Even my wife who doesn't even watch football will be there wearing Calvin Johnson's jersey. This will be my first game ever to see live and I'm really excited. Let's hope they make it interesting for me and others to want to come back.

Same ol' Lions? Not next year
I know that everybody just seems to keep writing this team off as the same old Lions and as of right now they are looking more and more like that. Thing is though, with everything going completely wrong from the first game of the season, how could they possibly overcome that stigma of another losing season?
The Lions have always had that one guy *Poll*
Seemingly every decade, except the for the Millen era of course, the Lions have always had that one player who was considered "the guy". The heart and soul of the team that without, the Lions wouldn't win very many games. That guy for the 1980's decade was running back Billy Sims, 1990's decade was Barry Sanders, and the 2010 decade is QB Matthew Stafford.
What's worse?
I can honestly say that even with the supposed talent upgrade for the Lions that this team is still at least one draft and a good offseason (and a healthy Stafford for a whole season) away from being a playoff bound team. Without Stafford, we aren't even a .500 team. This has got to be one of the most embarrassing moments ever to watch the Lions lose two years in a row to a winless team for a NFL record 25th time on the road, only beating their own futile record.
