"Retro" 2003 National Championship shirt on sale today/makes me feel old

3

My buddy subscribes to this company's list and forwarded this to me - if you enter promo code SYR50 at checkout it's 50% off this tshirt today. Can we talk about how 2003 being "retro" makes me feel old? In any case, I had season tix that year and it turned out pretty decent, so I took the plunge.

Congrats to Sean and the whole community! Fantastic work, glad to see it being recognized.

"Edelin loses appeal, hampering Orangemen"

2

Something Jay Bilas tweeted reminded me of this. And looking back here's what gets me: 1. Boeheim was as frustrated with the idiotic rules of the NCAA 10 years ago as he is today 2. Boeheim would take a bullet for one of his players 3. This line, "The Orangemen will go with freshman Gerry McNamara in place of Edelin." Such a matter of fact sentence. In retrospect? Wow.

Almost famous McShay: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse We've typically saved this space for some more obscure, off-the-radar prospects, but this felt like a good week to feature Nassib. He's in the Day 2 range, like Glennon. He's still developing as a passer (he throws too many fastballs) but he has a strong arm and has made some impressive throws under duress this season. He has passed for 579 yards, six TDs and zero INTs in his past two outings (wins over Connecticut and South Florida). The pre-draft process will be key for him, but I think he'll excel when he goes through it. He's really smart and a great student, from what I've heard. Kiper and McShay on some NFL prospects

Jim Boeheim on Dion Waiters

+

Some gems (some paraphrased)... On why Dion never started: "We had two guards who had won thirty games when they started together those years. So I wasn't going to change." "He could have started for us. He could have started for anyone in the country." On what he told Dion after telling him to leave: "I told him that if he can accept that role [off the bench] and come back, he will be picked in the top 15 picks. That's what i told him." "I thought he was the second best player in the draft."

The Portland Trail Blazers are not going tender Jonny Flynn a qualifying offer, which means the point guard will be an unrestricted free agent when the market opens on Sunday -- July 1. Flynn, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com, has six teams he wants to speak with and the Los Angeles Lakers are one of them. The other five on Flynn's list include Brooklyn, Chicago, Phoenix, Toronto and Portland. The Lakers have limited options when it comes to free agents and all they'd likely offer Flynn is a minimum contract.

ESPN NBA Rumors - Insider link Let's not forget that Flynn doesn't turn 24 till February. He's still a young guy and things got derailed with that hip surgery. He showed flashes when he got minutes last year. I would love to see him on the Bulls, get a chance to start until Rose returns 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through the year.

The Sacramento Kings have informed Donte' Greene and his agent that a qualifying offer is not coming and therefore he's going to play elsewhere next season. Greene tweeted a thank you to the Kings' fans on Wednesday: "Bye-Bye SAC! Been a good 4yrs. Made so many friends and love all da fans!!!!" Greene has not played consistent minutes for the Kings and that's why they didn't bother making him a restricted free agent. The market for him is low so he might play for a team during the upcoming summer leagues.

Looking good. Plus, Coach K isn't being a d-bag like so many other college coaches. Don't forget, Gbinije would essentially be transferring within the conference if he comes to Cuse.

This is all I can think of going into tonight's Nerlens Noel announcement. It's a shame we can have a bunch of Syracuse fans standing behind him as he makes his announcement to either celebrate or boo him loudly and then leave.

A lot of coaches cheat. A lot of coaches lose control of their programs, or don't care to exercise it in the first place. But, in the history of the game, only one coach has had two Final Four teams taken down. This is a remarkable historical achievement. When Kentucky gets close to winning this year, I predict that nobody on television will bring this up, although I'll buy a cookie for the first analyst who says, "What's the over/under number on Vacated? I put it at eight months."

Everybody Wants a Piece of Nerlens Noel - NYTimes, Pete Thamel

Very interesting article about the recruitment of Nerlens Noel. He clearly has some people in his ear giving bad advice, trying to take advantage of him. The most concerning part of the article to me as a fan comes at the end where it says that his basketball development has stagnated.

Kentucky claws its way to top spot, as Syracuse drops in Rankings - Luke Winn - SI.com

Luke Winn doesn't even talk about the team's play, instead addressing the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum mess. In the process he links to TNIAAM and also gives a photo credit. Nice. I think that's the 2nd time he's referenced our favorite site - at least he knows where to go to get the scoop (heh) on the team. He also has a scathing opinion of the dystopian college basketball universe that Nike is attempting to create. Solid read, he keeps it interesting.

"It's funny about zone defenses,'' Boeheim noted. "When a man-to-man coach is coaching and they make three or four straight, he says, 'We have to play better defense.' The other day, my wife asked me, 'Can't you play man-to-man?' I even get it at home.''
