Support thread for 2012-13' Blazers staff: Coach Canales & NO GM from LA!
Many might not of wanted a head coach from the Sonics when Nate came to town but came to terms with that as he brought us out of some dark times.. But how many could really get behind any triumphs that were tainted with purple and bling(refuse to say 'gold' and can't say 'pee')?
That's like saying trade for Kobe. Punch yourself then ditch the Mitch idea right now.
(Rec once for Yes, twice for No. :p )
Also, seriously, rec if you don't want to see a re-tread or un-retired coach at our helm.
Give me odds on any team Kaleb's coaching next year. Bet.
Go Red. Go Black.
Go Blazers.
Could/Should Roy remain a Blazer?
As management culls info and weighs decision options for Roy, I'm left with questions that hopefully Blazer philosophers and those with knowledge of amnesty/med retire rules alike can speak to.
Under either scenario, could Roy still be employed by (or even volunteer for) the Blazers?
And if so, should he?
If he gets amnestied, can he still just retire since Docs have proclaimed a career-ending injury?
And once retired, how, if at all, is he allowed to affiliate with the team?
Can he be anything from team ambassador, to coach, or GM?
Should he actively retain the pinwheel lapel pin to some degree or should he just have his number retired and stay away from the team altogether?
If the former, what role would you like to see Roy in?
(Remember, all this is regarding his public persona; privately he'll be developing athletic-grade meniscus replacement as patient zero until he can unveil it at Fan Fest 2014/Unretirement Ceremony.)
Two Blazer fans walk into a bar..
Friday night to lament the week's turn of events. As we sit at a table with draft sorrow-drowners in hand the wobbly table is bumped sending metaphorical pale ale tears to its surface. While our losses compile before us, we fold in half some coasters, wedge them beneath the troubled table appendage and wonder why the same can't be done for Roy - why can't someone just wedge some coasters where his menisci used to be and call it good?
In all seriousness, I think Roy should take his newfound time and invest his money into artificial meniscus tech over the next couple years and return to the court in bionic-like form by the time he's 30.
He's a hero, some say super, so is that Batman-esque scenario too far fetched?
So here's a question re: Roy
and forgive me if it’s come up elsewhere, I haven’t seen it.
Why is it not an option to have Roy, his agent, and management sit down and agree to rework the terms of his contract into something that more resembles his post-injury status?
If both sides agree to approach it with fairness (does Roy feel his payday is warranted now?) it could keep from having to drive a player like him out of town just because he got a max contract before an injury.
That may sound naive to think of a player (and his agent) "giving back" money but who's gonna stick up for common sense in an effort to make something like this right?
If someone cares to school me on the thinking and mechanics of guaranteed contracts or anything else in place that's preventing this approach I'm all ears.
In honor in its absence during this basketball purgatory, I offer this reminder of what we've loved about this team during a perfect "Game that Was" not that long ago.

I hope it helps get you through this trying time like it has me.

CourtSide this week: Anyone else see what Roy 'said' about his knees?
During this week's CourtSide telecast, when mentioning Roy's status, they talked over some footage of Roy running some knee-testing drills at center court. It wasn't until I saw him bumping his index knuckles together while speaking with someone on the training staff(?) that I wondered what he was saying.
After employing my novice lip-reading skills after a few rewinds this is what I'm pretty sure he said:
"I can feel it." (slight nod & wince with hand down around left knee)
:bump bump of 2nd index knuckles:
"I can feel it. But it goes away."
Anyone else notice this?
If that's right, what do we think about it?
Simple confirmation of what we already knew or something more that we hoped wasn't?

What a way to blaze into the playoffs!
Dunking the Nuggets all night just seemed like the right way to tie a neat little bow on this fabulous (regular) season.

Quick FYI: Sorry guys..
Blazer Beards UNITE!
via www.fileden.com
Our guys are donning scruffage till we clinch our playoff birth, who's with them?!?!"Blazer Beards" worked out when the Blazers made their first playoff appearance and won it in 77' (wonder if anyone said they were too young or inexperienced), why not again for our re-entry in 09'?
So if you got a shadow goin or even if you've had, as your girl(guy?) would say, "something growing on your face" for some time now, upload it at the link below and let's show our esprit de corps ala team solidarity!
[ You don't necessarily have to shave it once we reach the playoffs, in fact, whoever keeps their newest growth the longest might even win a prize. And whoever has one when we hoist the trophy over our heads will all meet somewhere and really celebrate! ]
[Bust-A-Bucket boards allow uploading pictures directly off your computer in Replies.]
The longest recap to date but I just couldn't get enough of Shaq's bad Rose Garden karma coming back to haunt him.
Enjoy.

Say it with me now - BATUMSHAKALAKA!!
Not sure how many of you read the Descriptions with the videos but here's an excerpt from this one I didn't want yall to miss.
"*Batum sidenote:
It was reported during the game that Michael Jordan was in town recently (Nike business) and had a conversation with our team president (who used to run the Jordan brand).
What did he have to say you ask?
Firstly, he said Nicolas Batum is like Scottie Pippen.
Secondly, he said he was glad to see we didn't make any trades because he likes our team and believes we have the people and pieces to win championships.
And he knows a lot about both. Word."
PS: I really like how this music matched the action tonight, hope you guys do too.
