Is this serious? Spetman drops this gem on us the week before Signing Day? IMO, this is some horribly executed ploy to tell Bowden he is overpaid.
Although most bowl monies are shared with the conference, FSU would benefit from participating in a BCS bowl where the minimum was $18 million. At last season's Champs Sports Bowl, participants FSU and Wisconsin were each paid $2.1 million.
Spetman's staff is looking at new ways of increasing revenue.
"We're turning over and looking under all the rocks," Spetman said. "These are extraordinary times. I read the paper every day and it's scary.
"What we'll first do is try to find ways to make new revenue to offset it and if there is absolutely no way, we'll have to make cuts."
I bet Bowden retires now "due to the economy".
Either way, why in the world would Spetman say this right now?
